An American Self-Portrait
http://www.chrisjordan.com/current_set2.php

Running the Numbers looks at contemporary American culture through the austere lens of statistics. Each image portrays a specific quantity of something: fifteen million sheets of office paper (five minutes of paper use); 106,000 aluminum cans (thirty seconds of can consumption) and so on. My hope is that images representing these quantities might have a different effect than the raw numbers alone, such as we find daily in articles and books. Statistics can feel abstract and anesthetizing, making it difficult to connect with and make meaning of 3.6 million SUV sales in one year, for example, or 2.3 million Americans in prison, or 32,000 breast augmentation surgeries in the U.S. every month.

This project visually examines these vast and bizarre measures of our society, in large intricately detailed prints assembled from thousands of smaller photographs. Employing themes such as the near versus the far, and the one versus the many, I hope to raise some questions about the roles and responsibilities we each play as individuals in a society that is increasingly enormous, incomprehensible, and overwhelming.

Maybe there's something missing or that's just the absolute worst one I've ever seen ;> http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/bb/blindspot1.html this thing is kinda cool; not really an illusion but kinda related and it's pretty freaky.

EDIT: Oh wait I get it now! ;D Was a bit too sneaky for me at first

That's kinda cool too, but i already knew there was a blind spot, so nothing new. I like those 3d images tho. But most of them are realy boring or lame, or both. Like a heart, of a square as 3d image... The one boselect posted is cool tho, imo.

Just try to cross your eyes and unfocus, until it sticks out of your screen, it's really cool.

K, stare at the centre of the picture, and move your face slowly towards it.  Slowly start pulling back, still staring at the exact same spot.  Crossing your eyes might help.  At somepoint, you will see a 3-D image pop out,.  In this case, you'll first see a "hole" in the center.  But don't look it at it directly! Or else it will go away!

Sooner this is on another page to stop the eco-warrior pics sending my browser crazy the better

So, errrr, magic eye - look through it, not at it. Pretend you're looking at something way behind your screen and focus there.

I've never been able to see any of the magic pictures and I've always thought it was a case of "the emperors new clothes" syndrom

What Bo's picture looks like to me is a very close-up view of a woven carpet
