kwl, nice system, how did u get the cpu cooler to face towards the exhaust fan? on mine i can hav it facing down (blowing air onto the gpu or facing towards the top of the case which will blow air into the psu, i wanted it like urs is now.) for AMD cpu btw

Why would I want to blow hot air into my machine, kind of beats the purpose of an exhaust fan doesn't it?

#1223345 by unknown[172158] at 2010-01-05 01:26:17 (3 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Most common setups have the fan the other side pushing air through the cooler. As your heatsink is close to the exhaust I guess you lose a bit of efficiency having it that side. It's hardly a big deal when it comes down to actual numbers though

#1223370 by newb001Donor (Power User) at 2010-01-05 04:13:56 (3 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Yea if its on the other side you would have air flowing through the cooler so it should have better cooling than 2 exhaust fans next to each other.

Fans are often designed to push air, as sucking air is alot harder. Your cpu fan is pushing air towards the front of the case while the fan behind it is trying to suck it out of the case, causing less effiency and maybe even
cavitation noise.

Think would you?

You can tell which direction my fan is blowing air just from looking at the plastic on the top of it? Impressive.

I have two fans sucking air in from the front and blowing across everything while the cpu fan blows the hot air out, either way air is moving across the fins of the heatsink and being sucked out the back of the case. Considering my OC'ed CPU sits at a cool 25 degrees I'm not too worried about if the fan sucks from the front or blows from the back.

Fan directions are adjustable... Think would you?.

Only if you can flip the fan 180 degrees, and by looking at your arctic cooling model, you cant.

I'm just saying, sure you can modify the power connector but that will eventually break the fan.

#1223402 by newb001Donor (Power User) at 2010-01-05 09:28:58 (3 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Yea the way that fan comes is so it blows through the heatsink.
Is this like the best cooler out? cause i don't see how it can really be 25 degrees when oc'd.

#1223403 by unknown[172158] at 2010-01-05 09:42:53 (3 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I doubt he's using a high voltage, 3.6 is a pretty low OC of a 8400, also as it's winter temps will naturally be lower. Regardless, I usually take peoples temps with a pinch of salt - this is the internet afterall!

Most coolers can idle at low temps, it's at load where you see which are the best/worst. On the flipside the AC7 is a pretty basic and average performing heatsink, the only thing it has going for it is it's price - and for £10(ish) more you could pick up a Xigma/Fenrir

This one is very quiet, you can hear it only if the computer gets very hot, 720p, games etc..

i was thinking of snatching one, but that would mean i had to unwrap the whole palet, and that was just too much work

I have an air tunnel on my cpu too and it blows hot air out, the difference is mine goes out to the side instead of the back, and cpu air tunnels isnt really something new, but may not be that common.
