How can I prove you wrong? My friend is currently running his at 5GHz with water cooling. All he did was change his multiplier.

Of course there will be variations, some processors won't do it, some will. Different batches yield different results.

Like my i7 920, I couldn't get it stable @ 3.80GHz no matter what I tried, I ended up leaving it at 3.60GHz as it was stable, although many people have them at 4GHz+.

As long as the temps aren't too high then you're fine, the new processors seem to run alot cooler anyway.

I've overclocked every custom build I've had in the past and haven't ever had issues with the CPU breaking/dying on me.

Good luck then proving me wrong by just upping the multiplier. it is a no go.
You have to change a lot of voltages and most common users can't get it to 5 GHz.

And the temps aren't good for daily use, lowers life of the CPU.

And Picard, you are probably just some idiot who has low end systems who never tried stuff out. Poor cheap lad?
All you get your info from is from reading websites?

You don't need to change "a lot of voltages"...
I am running it atm with 4.2 with stock air cooling, would be able to get it upt o 4.6 or more with aftermarket coolers (air) and even more with water.

I got the 2600K version btw, and i've run prime95 with realtemp over 10 hours and it didn't go above 75-80 degrees celsius. Which i find find completely acceptable with stock aircooling with my overclocking.

Unless you are doing 100% load benchmark 24/7 or other server stuff side that are using 100% at all times
I wouldn't worry too much about temps killing the CPU, heck I've run the first i7 at 4 ghz for over 2 years now with 85c 100% linx load. Doing stability test every 6 months.
If it degrades then it would probably outlast until your next upgrade anyways.
My only concerns about sandybridge is how much voltage you would need to get to 5ghz, can't comment on that one though.

Around 1.5v to get 5ghz on air.

Noctuan NH-D14 as cooler:

Actually quiet the opposite, moron . I'm currently still running an i7 920 @ 4.4 ghz with a 4way Classified and GTX 580 on water. I'm still waiting for my M4E B3 to get in stock over here to fire it up with my 2600k. I just don't feel the need to post dozen of pics of every little update to my rig to boost my ego and keep insulting people and also make fun of them while doing so, "haha you're some poor ass fella who can't afford my system, yay me". jesus christ grow the fuck up!

No the psu is made to go at the top, put it at the bottom and it looks upside down. also the cpu fan is drawing air upwards, I have an PhenomII x4 3.2ghz running quite happly at 3.8ghz and at 35c. But thanks for the input. :-)

No the psu isn't meant to be mounted like that, look at the holes under where your psu is mounted, what do you think they are for? They are too let your psu draw in cool air from outside the case.

Yet my upcoming change will still be more powerfull - Core i7 995X, so still bigger e-peen than your setup.
More pics will be coming when that happens

This is a show off topic, made to show off.

So show some pics, screenshots or it didn't happen as they say.

@Will

Doesn't your case got legs on the bottom?
If not than the case is poorly designed, if PSU is sitting on the bottom with air holes at the bottom.
My Corsair 800D, the PSU sits on the bottom, pulling air from the bottom, leaving at the back of the case.
It is always better to pull cool air from the outside than use the hot air from the inside, unless system is watercooled.

It is the same specs.

A huge costum case from mountainmods.com. Shipping alone cost $200 and then fedex threw in VAT.

Was awesome.

I also have a fairly fast SSD and 2x 2 TB seagate Green for storage. about 50 euros each so thought what the hell, one of them isnt even connected.

Edit:
This probably whoops Ynchies spec

He has an i7 920 I have an i7 2600K
He has a Geforce 570 I have two GTX 590 in SLi.

All of it watercooled.

Yes it whoops Ynchies comp by a mile.
