Prometheus - 5/10 - What a mess. Entertaining enough, sure, but it is as if someone took a mediocre Alien-like horror, an interesting but never reaching its potential majestic scifi story, themes of evolution and humanity, and a run of the mill scifi corporations gone wild plot, and blended all of these together... ta-da, Prometheus was born, the whole is less than the sum of its parts - some of which were below par to begin with.

The Crossing - 6/10 - George Washington was one rad dude. A bit too low key and a bit on the cheap side for my liking, but Jeff Daniels was good, there were shades of Gettysburg and you never have enough solid, realistic historical movies.

If only there were more Gettysburgs and Sharpes and Hornblowers. And The Crossings.

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns - 7/10 - Superb atmosphere, incredible soundtrack, hit the exact same tones as the brilliant comics - except one.

My problem with cartoon adaptations of comics is the art. What is a vital part of a comic book just isn't done enough justice on video - you can capture the feeling, the choreography, the scenes (and TDKR has done that well), but ultimately it will always look cheaper (and again, TDKR is no exception). It's very similar to video games in this regard - look at the painstakingly detailed 2d titles of old, and compare with 3d. They are incomparable. Not necessarily because they would be noticeably nicer or uglier, just not the same. Different techniques, different purposes, you get it.

oh yeah speaking of the soundtrack anyone seen it anywhere? it's really cool

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 - 8/10 - DC animation can be so amazing that I'm almost not interested in them making live action movies if they can churn out quality like this. I've never read the Dark Knight Returns only a summary and so I can only judge it on what I saw rather than it's quality as an adaptation and it was simply magnificent. Can't wait for the star studded sequel ;-)

Resident Evi Retribution - 2/10 Found it hard to even rate this movie. Being a fan of the other 4 it was a struggle to even watch this.

Decent family drama with a couple of interesting characters. About a guy who finds out he has a sister with a kid from his recently dead dad's secret other life.
