No Country for Old Men - 6.9/10 ... I really really wanted to think it was fantastic, but it just wasnt! Some of the acting was great but i would have to say that the ending was weak and the story was slow. It has a lot of potential but really not good enough as a finished article. I can see why it'd be so popular in america, but to the english i cant see how it will do so well.
edit: and I agree with what dave73 said about this film.

Armageddon - 8/10 .. was just on tv this morning, such a brilliantly done film, very emotional, really good effects for something in 1998. A must watch (was the first time my gf had seen it somehow!!!).

I watched the hunting party last night and I found it to be pretty good.

Deacent story that kept me interested throughout and no real problems with the acting that I could see.

will give it a 8/10, giving it 8/10 and not 10/10 because I felt it could have been about half an hour longer as I was slightly disapointed when it ended.

Gladiator

2 long film = boring film. It's not bad film, no. But 2 much no action moments. Crowe play nice, b ut Fenix... I don't like it.
But music of Zimmer is good. Like always.

@ RofWoof .... i'm guessing you watched a version of gladiator that wasnt in your native tongue? Because Gladiator is one of the best films of all time....my number 1 in fact! How it could ever score below 8/10 with anyone is beyond me!!

'The Hunting Party' - 8.2/10 - Really good film, enjoyed it the whole way through...nice acting, original, interesting story and a way more satisfying ending than 'No country for old men'! A must watch

edit: Oh I would give 'Gladiator' a 9.5/10 (losing the 0.5 there only because there should be more films this brilliant!)

I like this guy, Jason Statham. I remeber when I saw him in Transporter. I know he will be good, action films actor. Adrenalin - jesus, great! But now, we have lame film.
I cannot resist the impression that Li and Statham play in this film casually, just 4 cash and they are boring.
Not bad action film, that's 4 sure. But between "Adrenalin" and this film is like between dinner in McDonalds and good, spain restaurant.
All time I was under the impression that something will hopen and I will be suprice. But not. Film ends and I look at the end sub and think - wtf? End looks like - "maybe we will do seq".
My judge: 3/10

What's special? Well special effects isn't a major part of it but the rest of the listed things above are all true. I think it is has everything that a film could possibly aspire to: a great script that has a brilliant director, directing an actor of monumental brilliance (Russel C.). I guess the film is so brilliant to me because I can completely relate to the main character; I love the quiet, simple life yet on the other hand I love the exhilaration of being a leader when it's needed as well as being ultra competitive with a need to be the best at what i do, and i would fight for all that he did in the film with the same passion. So i guess it was moving to me because i got sucked in to his situation and followed it all the way through, just captivated.

It's such a good film that I have only watched it twice...its special to me and i'll only watch it on the very rare occasion that i think it can be done justice in the setting i.e. once in the cinema and once on a giant tv with surround sound etc. Everyone I have watched it with equally loved it the way i did.

edit: oh and the music was just sensational and perfect for the type of film. That sort of music has since been used alot in other films (such as 'The 300') and recently i noticed some of the exact same music in another film but i cant remember which one.

edit2: i'm glad you brought this film up actually because i really need to buy the HD DVD because i havent seen it in HD yet. I have only bought Gladiator, LOTR Box Set and Shawshank Redemption...ever...and i dont know why because i hardly ever watch them because they are too good to ruin by watching often!

Charlie Wilsons War - 7.5/10 - I find historical things like this very interesting even if it might be exaggerated. Quite a different take on the usual historical/political type films. Nice acting too, definitely worth the watch.

edit: Oh and speaking of Gladiator before, it's on tonight on channel 4 at 9pm.

superb story, acting, direction, visuals, audio, cinematography, etc etc

There is absolutely nothing wrong with gladiator, its not supposed to be action packed, if you want that then go watch die hard.

Gladiator is one of the few movies that come out that does nothing wrong, its a faultless movie imo.
