The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus - 6˝/10

Gilliam's latest endeavor into fantasy is a visually charming and mostly well-made adventurous action/comedy-romp with surprisingly little content other than the loops of the rollercoaster it pushes us into. I wouldn't say that I demand ponderings of death and such from every film I come across, but Gilliam has a reputation of making somewhat "deeper" flicks and here he seems to reduce this value into anecdotal flashbacks, and it's a shame, because with this crew something greater than an imaginative fantasy movie could easily have been achieved. And yeah, it is pretty original. The central storyline twists and turns like a corkscrew, and this makes it rather fun to follow. I however do dislike the fact that there really is no protagonist for this entire film aside from Parnassus, who always seems more like a narrator than the main character. The camerawork is rather shaky sometimes, literally, which happens a few times too often to be ignored and tends to give said scenes a quality of sloppiness not otherwise present. Oh yeah, and I recall back in the day that WB thought about cutting the scene from TDK with Ledger in a body bag due to, well, him dying. What they would've done with some of the hangings in this film!

Hitler Meets Christ - 8/10
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0243649/

Even as a non-religious individual, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hitler Meets Christ tells the story of two homeless men wandering the crumbling urban wasteland of a city ghetto (Vancouver). Pitted in a tireless debate, the defiant Hitler is incensed by his companion while Christ struggles to detect any trace of a human soul beneath Hitlers rock-solid layers of bile and hatred.  As the friction escalates, Hitlers rage becomes all-consuming and Christ is forced to test his own endurance in his search to answer the question, Just how far does Gods love extend? This chilling tale is based on Emmy Award and Golden Globe winner Michael Moriarty's (Law and Order, Pale Rider) controversial play.

The Reader - 7˝/10
It is somewhat conflicting as a film. It clashes with itself. Everything is clearly split into three parts. There's the romance, the trial and the aftermath. For the early times of the relationship, the only defining charecteristic for any of the film's events seems to be that the woman is a bit wonky. Otherwise everything is so happy-doodle it gave me a sugar high from the syrupy contents. We even see the couple take a bike ride through a grassfield in shorts as a romantic theme plays in the background. The trial is the worst part, as everything goes narratively very jumbled and the big picture seems to fade as small intricate scenes take place, seemingly separate from one another far too often. Now Michael is there, now he's there, oooh now he's in a court room OMG twist, oh an inspirational speech how ni... oh now he has skipped classes, I see. It goes like that for a bit too long. This is why it surprises me that the aftermath from the first two parts is purely five-star material. It's not only fantastic in deconstructing not only the event-wise effect of everything before, but also works as a psychological and mental deconstruction of this entire movie and it's characters, their worlds etc. The earlier parts are really required to make the last part work, but they could've been done differently. I have no idea how those parts could have been improved, but isn't that what the filmmakers should think of instead of the person watching?

Man on the Moon (1999) 8/9 out of 10.

Man on the Moon is a 1999 American biographical film about the American entertainer Andy Kaufman. The film, starring Jim Carrey and directed by Miloš Forman, begins at Kaufman's childhood, where he is seen performing imaginary television programs for stuffed animals. The story traces Kaufman's steps through the numerous comedy clubs, and television appearances that made him famous, including his memorable appearances on Saturday Night Live, Late Night with David Letterman, Fridays, and his role as "Latka Gravas" on the television sitcom Taxi. The film pays particular attention to the various inside jokes, scams, put-ons, and happenings for which Kaufman was famous, most significantly his long-running "feud" with wrestler Jerry "The King" Lawler and his portrayal of the bawdy lounge singer Tony Clifton.
Carrey won a Golden Globe for his performance - his second win in a row after receiving an award for The Truman Show previously. He was nominated in the Musical/Comedy category for Man on the Moon, and remarked in his acceptance speech that he thought the film was a drama at heart,[1] an opinion shared by others, but also a reference to how Kaufman saw himself as a "song and dance man."

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus 4 / 10

Maybe I expected so much more from Gilliam...maybe it was a case of them making the best out of a bad situation with Ledger dying midway thru the film. But it was a serious mess of a film that left me clueless as to what it was trying to say.

I grabbed this film yesterday after seeing this post, already liked Any Kaufman for what I have seen of him on SNL and Taxi but I had no idea about the rest of the Kaufman story.

I got the movie last night and have already watched it twice and its a superb movie.

Not sure at all how accurate it is but its immediately went into my must have movies, already ordered a retail DVD of this film.

9/10 and it only loses a point because I felt it took about 20 minutes for me to accept Jim Carry as Kaufman and that's possibly my own fault and not the movie.

Anyone who has any form of interest in comedy you have to check this film out, stunning movie and say it a great performance by Jim Carry, in fact the whole cast was excellent and it was extremely nice to see some of the cast of taxi reprising there roles parts of this movie.

Das Weisse Band - 8/10

You got me, Mr. Haneke. I have no earthly clue on what to think, say or even understand of this movie. Maybe I went into it with high hopes, and looked for this grandiose meaning to everything throughout the flick, but I just never saw it. I never felt as if I would've learned, understood or even seen something new. What I did get was a seemingly overtly realistic depiction of the lives inside this small town. Don't get me wrong, there is absolutely nothing to be confused by in this film. The narrative is straightforward and understandable. It is the meaning behind everything that Haneke intentionally leaves in the dark. It is never stated in any way. That is the greatness of this film; it allows you to decide what you think you saw. You point the finger, you shoot the proverbial shit. But for me, this was also the downfall. During this first viewing, I did not get enough material out of the film to create my own theories and whatnot. I could read on what others have written on this film, but I don't want to be conformed into believing of it what others do. I want to develop what I think, and I believe I will only be able to do that, maybe not even after the second viewing, but after the third time I watch this. And the absolutely gorgeous black and white photography (which, as usual, works fifty million times better than colour ever does) certainly makes sure that I return to this film when the time is right.

Clash of the Titans - 6.5 / 10

The movie wasn't too bad, but when you have a classic of such epic proportions as the original film, it's really hard life up to the expectations. On another note, i continue to be thoroughly un-impressed with 3D i don't think it really adds much to the movie experience and Titans really didn't even bother to try make it work. Pay extra to have the image darkened and wear stupid glasses for an hour and a half? I really don't think i'll bother with 3D again.

think the point is to watch a real 3d film yet everything since avatar has just been converted and not shot in a style to benefit from 3d

well thats what i read, saw alice in wonderland and thought the text and logos b4 the movie were better 3d than the film

Wow, I rewatched this what with the Pacific coming out and me not remembering it and it's way, way too artsy and wannabe deep. It looks nice and whatnot but the whole voiceovers, war is awful, human psyche thing is just too much.
