i didn't see it through to the end. it just wasn't funny. anyone agree with me on this one?

Well its not "really" a comedy so...

i gave it a try again tonight and it was alright. but i still don't think it was particularly good. reading up on the story afterwards i can see what they are trying to tell us, but it isn't very clear when you watch the movie.

The Road  -  (8/10)

After seeing too many action disaster flicks (2012 etc) with no heart, its great to finally watch a apocolyiptic (typo!) movie with heart and no stupid action scenes...   Id recomend this to anyone.

I could fill three pages with why this movie is the epitome of 90's action movies while still being up par with more modern releases, but i think everything that could've been said about this flick was already said. This was cinema back in the days!

+1, only thing I hated about it that I knew the good guy would win anyway*

sorry I meant heat

Heat 9/10

One of the most realistic shootout scenes in any movie, great actors (Pacino is a BIT over the top, as always), though a bit long at times. Still, one of the best crime Movies of all times, Michael Mann knows what he is doing, "Collateral" is another high ranking movie he's done.

Up In The Air - 9/10 - Great Movie loved every minute of it. It was a tad predicatable the characters almost all behaved exactly the way I expected them to, the way her just walked out on that speech after his big revelation was annoying, I'm sick of seeing that scene in movies  but the ending was slightly surprising. I mean it's kinda sad how
nothing really changed for him, I was so sure I saw a happy ending coming a mile off til he got to her door and you just knew it couldn't end well.

Stiill I really enjoyed that, can't say enough good things about it.

Quickblood - calm down it was aight!

The Descent Part II: 6.8/10 - pretty good actually. i think i liked the first one somewhat also. put me off my breakfast at a few points but besides that i'd recommend it if you want something short and entertaining

The Descent Part 2 - 6/10 - I'm not one to usually claim a sequel or spin-off diminishes the original in any way but this film does kinda shit all over the events of the first one. I mean in the 1st Juno had a tragic and undeserved ending Sarah was left to what should have envitably been a horrific death and that sucked
but by allowing Juno to live albeit briefly, save Sarah and then be forgiven well that's not quite as poignant. Plus the ending annoyed me, I'm not entirely sure why he would do that but I wanted a happy ending for that chick.
Lastly the set-up is just all sortsa wrong, who the fuck thinks it's even remotely a good idea to go on a hugely risky expedition like that without shit loads of back-up, being sure there are survivors and taking one who is severely traumatised, has no memory and may be a murderer with you oh and handcuff yourself to her to, idiot!

Astro Boy - 7/10 - I kinda liked it but I can't get the fact outta my mind that a fucking child was murdered and then somehow they agreed it would be sensible idea to reactivate the murderous robot under the same circumstances, seriously!

Black Hawk Down - 8/10 - If this had been fiction I'd have said it was too much. I mean it's unrelenting, there's no let up and it's incredibly intense. Great movie although really doesn't delve into the Somali side of it but I never expect Hollywood to do that, gotta be black & White good vs evil which is rather typical of Hollywood.

Shutter Island 6 or maybe only 5 of 10

I can't say what it was, but this film was really meh, had a solid start, dwindled of to a semi-predictable ending (which in parts seemed way too rushed,
The wife killing the kids thing
) and, as much as i like di caprio, this was nowhere near his usual performances.

Watched Men Who Stare At Goats. There really is only one fundamentally critical flaw in this entire film, and that is the fact that it is not a movie. It has absolutely no narrative. It is a sequence of scenes, not in any specific order, about things that are at best mildly amusing. The terrific cast is an utter waste as they're left with nonsenical lines to spew out and no message to deliver. When after fifty minutes of a film that lasts ninety, you can't for the death of you think what the movie is saying, and it's a politically charged flick, the movie must be bad. This is pointless nonsenical jargon on celluloid. It feels more like a full-lenght trailer than an actual movie.

Also saw The Princess and the Frog. That was fun. Very musically charged, but given the cultural legacy of the place where all this happens, I'd say that's alright. Some songs come very much from the left field and do seem mundane, but mostly it's all right. The story is pretty original, albeit predictable, and certainly fun to watch. Even though I am no fan of CGI-animation, I honestly can't say this way is better. The traditional cell-drawings do avoid stepping into the uncanny valley, but in this case most of the people are just overdrawn. The prince looks like prince charming, the princess... well, like a princess. Sure, I'm saying that the people who practically invented these visuals are using them again, but it's a bit tired. Classical, sure, but tired. Anyhow, this still is a good kids film. Doesn't have the strongest of messages since it's kind of uninspiring (doesn't matter what you want, but what you need), but it's still an enjoyable romp.

Then, finally watched The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. You know, whenever a trilogy ends, I tend to go all retrospective about it. And with this series, it's a very bad thing. You see, the first film is so very stand-alone. A hundred minutes of it is spent solving a mystery that is meaningless to the real story of this trilogy. The second part is more like a really drawn out and confusing set-up for the final act. That's why it surprised me that this final part is actually really, really good. It's not a 2½ hour long CSI-episode or the aftermath of one, instead it's like Robert Rodriguez once said "The late second acts in movies are usually the most predictable and the most boring, that's where the good guy really turns out to be the bad guy, and the bad guy is really good, and the couple becomes friends. Suddenly, though, in the third act, all bets are off and it's a whole new story anyway." This is the third act, and it feels like a whole new story. The conspiracy that was so choppy and messy in the second movie is now in tip-top shape and this is by far one of the most emotionally satisfying trilogy finishers I've seen. Seeing karma commence in the form of biting people in the ass is just such hilariously satisfying stuff I couldn't help but chuckle as all the events unfolded. I also love the final scene, which is essentially the opposite of any Hollywood-ending ever, a scene so mundane you'd never expect it to be the last one. But yeah, this is a very solid thriller/courtroom drama/conspiracy movie, and to me an immediate genre favourite at that.
