Another weekend, another trip to the cinema... I might be a dirty rotten pirate, but I have no problem supporting the whingeing movie industry when it's a decent movie. That decent movie would be Daybreakers. To be honest it was pretty cliche and a mish-mash of other vampire movies put together - but it was put together well imo.

I would give it 7/10 (Maybe even 8/10...maybe!) - I fairly enjoyed it to be honest. I always like Dafoe & Neill's acting.

Yeah I really wanted to see Daybreakers but the Ice has pretty much put me off leaving the house. I won't go anywhere if I have to walk more than 10m to safety. :lol:

The Da Vinci Code - 6/10 - Great story but poor movie.

2012 - 7/10 - Seen it all before but kinda enjoyable

Grosse Point Blank - 8/10 - Awesome

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen - 6/10 - Yeah it's better than the first & it starts off ok but began to bore me halfway through.

The Beast of War (1988)

A friend gave me this one. He got it from a torrent.

Set during the Russian invasion of Afghanistan in the 1980's this is a story of a lone Russian tank and it's crew which is lost out in the dry baron land and trying to find it's way back to base but the tank is on the run because it's being hunted down and constantly attacked by Afghan rebels.

Even though this is a low budget movie i would rate it as a "B+" as far as production quality goes.
A little bit more money and some work on the writing and this could have become a cult classic.

The most annoying aspect of the movie for me was that the Russian tank crew had American accents.
If they had to speak English then I would have preferred an attempt at Russian accents.
My disappointment with this subsided though as I was quickly drawn into the story.
At least the Afghans spoke in their native language (with subtitles) and the actors who played those parts were very convincing and did a great job.

I don't know how realistic it was but it was fairly captivating and the cinematography was very nice.
I love the rich colours of the desert and the dry hilly lands.

7/10

(btw, i would have rated this a bit higher if the tank crew spoke Russian)

The Godfather, all three - 8/10

That was... strange. Unlike any film I have seen to this day. I liked it but I couldn't possibly explain why. It felt realistic at times, artsy sometimes,'movielike' in a few places and like a documentary in others. Strange.

It takes all of 10 seconds to shoot a scene where you explain to the audience who everybody is. I had no idea what characters any of the bad guys were except for Depp.

It's Complicated - 7/10

A romantic comedy aimed at divorced older women, but it had its funny moments thanks to Martin and Baldwin.
