Why do some of you ppl pay good money, just to have a box to seed?
You are literally paying out of your pocket for a "statistic"....

Does it really matter how much TB's you upload at the end of the day? Is it worth all that money?
I can understand renting a box for specific server needs (gamehost, websites etc etc) but just for seeding?
I dunno, sounds crazy to me. Not to mention a waste of money.

$60 for 1 month = 2 TB Uploaded.

For November you may want to drop $120 on an unmetered box.
Crysis is going to seed like crazy.

Spend $120 dollars for a 2TB "statistic" in my profile page? No thanks bro.

It's not the statistic, it's the buffer.
TBy has no HNR rules.  Buy a seedbox for $60, then get 2 TB buffer.  Then you never have to seed again.

Buy $120 unmetered box and you can get 2 TB on all the trackers you use.

So $60 for 2 TB on TBy is good.
$120 for 2 TB on all your private trackers is even better.

Most people pay $60/month for their internet access.  So it's not like that's a life investment.  And no, it has nothing to do with e-penis.  These days I only seed at my leisure to 1.0 on the big files since I'm on a faster home connection now.

While some people are out there fighting to keep a 1.0 and complaining about over-seeding, you can just drop $60 one time and get a permenent downloading buffer.  It's more than worth the convenience, I'd say.

If you're a member at HDBits then you should especially consider investing in a 1-month seedbox.

btw if you don't share your account, then you can get a 1 TB box for about $30 for one month.
1 TB should be plenty for one person...

@Xi0nic check his profile... 200KB a day he doesn't even use TB so how would he understand download buffer...

I'm an uploader and I have 45KB/s upload at home but I never seed from home, I always hit and run... when I'm using my upload I can't surf at all (even if it's set less than 45)

@Sayf why you bothering to seed at all... you don't download, just for statistic and epenis or what?

edit: ah I see your one of those forum users I've heard about...

PS I do what I do for the good of the swarm but it doesn't hurt that my epenis is this big OO===========================================================================================>

LOL. taking this a bit too personally, no?
You must be in your teens. Oh BTW, mind your own damn business as to what I do with my account.

@Xi0nix: Yeah, you've got some good points there. Makes sense.
Thanks for discussing it like a mature person.

Quit with the spam in this thread please, this thread is for discussions about the seedboxes themselves. How a member chooses to use the site is entirely down to them and not for discussion in this thread

Try installing an FTP server, itll work really well.

#837323 by Xi0nicDonor (Power User) at 2007-09-25 04:05:29 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I used EasyPHP to download files.
Easier than an FTP server...

Ok so i have had a seeder box for about 2 months now going onto my 3rd month. And i use it for the buffer but at the same time i do upload some at home just not very fast. If i was to download a game that was 8GB it would take me 3 weeks to seed it back! So yes i do hit and run on some things but not many! At the same time i didnt get the seeder box for the e-penis, as no one knows me and never will, but last month i became an uploader for a private tracker, and having this seederbox really helps to get the seed count up on torrents!

I was looking around and a lot of people seem to not understand the concept of the seederbox but i ran across this post over at slyck. This person really got to the point of the seeder box!

Quote:

Maybe I can clear up some of the questions about seed boxes. As the owner of a tracker and part of a major source development team I'm fairly knowledgeable about this subject.

First what exactly is a seed box?

A seed box is usaly a dedicated server on a 100mbit connection running either windows or lunix, windows based seed boxes are accessed with remote desktop and you run them just like you would a regualr pc. This give an easy interface to run a client like utorrent or azureus. While a linux box takes a little more programing knowledge you can run a program like torrentflux or a couple others. Torrentflux is a program that allows you to use a regular web interface to access just like you were accessing any site.
Thottenrflux allows you to upload, download, make torrents and some other functions. It is a little bit slower to use, function wise not transfer speed, than windows based seed boxes but can run on smaller servers.

These seed boxes are capable of download speeds that will allow you to download a 700mb torrent in 3-4 mins, and seed it back to a 1 to 1 ratio in about the same time.

Why would you want a seed box?

Well there are many reasons,

One being it frees up your home connection so its not maxed out seeding torrents to maintain a ratio. Many ISP's are using packet sniffers to find torrent downloads and they limit the speeds. With a seed box you can download the torrent then seed it back and your ISP isn't involved. While you then can either FTP or http download the torrent to your home pc. Neither of these protocals are currently limited by ISP's. With a good seed box you can FTP a torrent to your pc at just about the full download speed your connection can handle.

Another popular reason is to seed a torrent site, some uploaders at just about every site on the web are running seed boxes. This allows for them to get make and seed torrents at these fast speeds. many site owners have seed boxes that they pay for to provide their members faster downloads. Download speeds are what members are looking for, face t who would support a site that it takes 2 days to download a torrent.

Like I said these seed boxes are widely used by almost every site there is. I know of no site that I can't use a seed box on. Some may ban some of the clients but they don't ban the seed box itself. As far as the issue stated about rejecting IP's, of course if you are using a windows based seed box you just log in from the seed box to the site and all is good. With a torrentflux based seed box the program has a URL get function where you enter your cookie for that site and when you provide a link to the program it gets the torrent file from the site and the site see's that IP as the one that got the torrent.

Any torrent site that wouldn't allow the use of a seed box would in effect be saying " we don't want our members to have fast downloads" this is totally insane. Torrent sites want members, members want security, quality torrents and the main thing speed. Its that simple.

I just moved to Hong Kong and am looking at where/when/how much I could get out of a seedbox on the mainland or even the island if necessary.

Are the torrents loaded in utorrent?  Where are you getting stuck, how are you downloading the torrents?

Some providers only have certain ports open, so you might wanna use an open one.

hey guys,

well im shopping around for a seedbox (with your recommendations ) looking for as much bandwidth as possible, and storage dosent have to be anything big 20-40 gb. With windows on the box, my budget is around 40-50 USD.

Also atm i have XP Home installed and Iv read around that XP Home dosent have remote connection, so what would be my best bet ? To install XP Pro on another harddrive ? or use alternative software ?

Actually, XP Home DOES have the Remote Desktop Connection Client side. It doesn't have the "server" side where you can connect to the machine, but if you go to Accessories>>Communication(I believe), it should be there.
