i'm thinking about using a seedbox, just not sure where and what costs i should count on.
don't need a 100mbit line or whatever, 10mbit would be better. also need to know how what software, and how to make the software do what i want it to do.

What's the price for getting caught? I mean like in Germany, or The Netherlands or the US, how high is the penalty for getting caught? Any idea?

Getting caught for seeding on TorrentBytes?
Has that ever happened?  I don't know anyone who has had their server shutdown due to illegal activity... Websites, yes... But not servers.

I would guess you might get an email from your company.
They would either warn you to stop, or just turn off your server entirely.

I doubt they'd do anything because you're paying them for the server.  They care more about money than anything else... So most of them will over-look whatever it is your doing with the server.

[edit]
I managed to snatch up a Spyro from LeaseWeb when they restocked today.  They put up 2 servers of each... It's taken me weeks, but I finally registered one.

Well, vectoral ir def the best choice after LW. Have been using vectoral a while ago and cant say anything wrong about only satisfaction about  full speeds and very good support.And someone mentioned that speed from axx will be slow with vectoral is wrong. From nl axx i got 10MB/s all the time and havent got any problems. So vectoral is the best choice for users who is looking for 100mbit line and Leaseweb for 1GBit, cause vectoral dont offer 1Gbit.

You mean spyro from vectoral, not from LW

generally 100mbit is only $10 Us a month more than 10mbit so it's worth upgrading (unless your talking unmetered)

just ordered a dedibox.fr. for 29 euro i couldnt say no, 100mbit unmetered =) (ofcourse not guaranteed, but i see you will always have a very good speed), as i can downlload to my office from some seedboxes from there with my max- 100mbit speed

Would appreciate your comment on the new dedibox.fr server as I was considering them to leaseweb.

Cheers

WOW, that does seem a very good deal. Just to make something clear since I know almost nothing about these seedboxes, is it like the graphical linux machine when you access it via remote desktop? Do they have ftp servers too? It'd be much easier to maintain if that's the case. Also please share any review of that server or any other server with similar pricing and features.

I'm trying their virtual web admin, but it's not responding.

VPS = Bad.
:no:

[edit]
On a side note, don't buy a SpringAthlon server from Vectoral...
Mine's only giving me about 7 mB/sec in total.  The Spyro server can do 8 mB/sec download and 11.4 mB/sec upload at the same time... Plus it's cheaper.

Just get box from vectoral with windows pre installed and rest is piece of cake. Ok, you pay
abit more but if u dont know jack about linux its the way to go.
You simply connect via remote desktop to the vectoral pc and use it like any other windows based pc.
Dont know about you guys, but i totally dig vectoral, been using it for last 6 months and not a single
issue yet, have been maxin it out on daily basis, plain awesome service they are offering

Yep I have two Vectoral servers and they work great.  Plus they're based in Europe so torrenting is much easier.

@pncbank1:
And yes, take the base server price displayed on the Vectoral list and add (I think) an extra $19/month to the price for Windows.  They send you an IP, login, and password, then you use Remote Connection to login.

Start > Programs > Acessories > Communications > "Remote Desktop Connection"

After you login, it's just like using a normal PC with Windows.
Very easy and convenient, but it's a little laggy obviously.

Maximum speed with Vectoral is about 11.5 mB/sec both ways.
And yes you'll hit that speed a lot.  I'm personally using a Spyro, and I don't think you'd need anything bigger than that for just torrent seeding.
