Ah ok thanks Polleke, how do I go about fixing it? I downloaded curl...

#789647 by unknown[154165] at 2007-03-07 20:47:53 (6 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I've no experience with curl from the cli. But I know it's possible with it. Read their documentation and man pages.

Does anyone here use Linux on their seedbox? I never had this problem last time I used a remote connection, It's like I can't download the .torrent file because I'm not logged in on my seedbox.

Does anyone know a way of fixing this?

#789738 by chrono03Donor (Power User) at 2007-03-08 00:04:14 (6 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I use utorrent with linux, and i download the torrents onto my comptuer and upload them to the box.  Thats the only way i can get it to download from tb

avoid zipservers.com they require a domain they can whois to verify your identity (retarded since you could need a server and not have one)

Wats best seedbox i could get for let's say about 20$, not more.WHat bw and quality ?

#794228 by Matt865Donor (VIP) at 2007-03-17 19:16:58 (6 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

If you can't spend more than $50 then I wouldn't bother, but Vectoral's cheapest server is $19.95/month.

you can use wget to download torrent files. just put something like this in your .bashrc

function tb {
  wget -O $2 --header='Cookie: uid=136670; pass=e1156ab25654935338cad68d4a8e19fd' $1
}

you get the uid and pass values by viewing the site's cookie in Firefox privacy options.

to download a torrent file, you enter the command with the syntax "tb input output"
for example:

tb http://www.torrentbytes.net/download.php?id=28599 Movie.XviD.torrent

by the way that is not my real pass hash up there

Just a general question... I have never used Linux before... Ever. Is Linux easy enough to pick up? or should I just bite the bullet and pick up a windows server?

even Slackware and Debian are a cinch! i mean all you have to do to install a program in debian is type apt-get install <program name> and apt-get upgrade to upgrade all your packages... or go the really easy route and use the aptitude gui. slackware's swaret is very similar.

My server with hetzner were actually the first time using some kind of linux in CLI(Console Line Interface).

I knew someone with some experience, and i was pretty adept at basics after an hour or so, and even if you don't know anyone you can always ask in Linux forums or even here.

Each time you meet some command you need to use but don't understand that well you can always try "man <command>", if it doesn't exist you can search for "man <command>" on google, and it'll usually find some document where you can get a glimpse on how to use a specific command.

Has anyone actually used Vectoral?
I was thinking about switching to them, but I don't know how good their service is.  Haven't really seen servers get that cheap...

Vectoral and Leaseweb are the best. Softlayer too

#803818 by Xi0nicDonor (Power User) at 2007-04-04 03:59:23 (6 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

If there's nothing bad to report about Vectoral (since I've never seen servers so cheap like that), then I'm definitely switching over next month.

~$60/month is just too good to ignore.

not sure if it's relivent but vectorals servers are in germany, you'll get slow xfer speeds from any axx you might have or from your server to your house if you dl torrents from it (because your usa)

Hmm well, I really only use them on torrent sites for seeding.
Shouldn't affect those speeds, right?

Not to mention, if you want speed and reliability, why not go with LeaseWeb? That's who TB is hosted with.

I asked before (during the donation crunch) who the host was, and someone posted a link...
And it wasn't LeaseWeb.

But maybe someone lied about their host and/or I misunderstood the link they sent me.

LeaseWeb's prices aren't that fantastic.
I wouldn't be willing to use non-US hosting if the prices were the same as my US hosting now.

[edit]
From the looks of it, LeaseWeb is very stingy on bandwidth prices...
I think I just saw 109 Euros for a 1 TB/month server?
That's rather... Expensive.

If you want the best, you have to pay for it. LeaseWeb probably has better customer relationship management and support, and might be a bit better for security. You do not want to get a US dedicated server for this stuff, trust me. The copyright laws in the US are severe, and if you get busted you're looking at a $250,000 fine or possible imprisonment. Just be thoughtful about what you're doing, that's the best advice I can offer.

Or... not.
I've been seeding with US boxes for a while now.  I make my living doing illegal things with dedicated servers.  Although that doesn't mean I won't be arrested someday...

I wouldn't classify LeaseWeb being the best, either.
If you just need a server for seeding torrents, then customer management and "security" don't mean shit.  Just by looking at the package deals, Vectoral is the best on the web.

Also don't assume that hefty prices yields better support, or whatever other 'bonus' things that might come with a server.

#803858 by unknown[120138] at 2007-04-04 06:20:57 (6 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

lots of torrenters sing the praises of vectoral as the best bang for your buck, I don't think you'll be disapointed with them

and no it won't affect torrent speeds so much as long as the majority of the peers your uploading from are in euroup... you might actually see overall better routing from germany than usa because I belive the majority of users here are EU based

edit: i made a thread somewhat related to seedboxes... about what linux to use, if you got info feel free to drop me a line there http://www.torrentbytes.net/forum_viewt … amp;page=1

Sempron 3100
512mb
160gb SATA
2TB of transfer
€69

Express Server 3 of Leaseweb.. €109 where?
