Any good deals out there on 1gbit servers?

I was looking at ovh servers but it seems they have changed there deals since last time i looked.

It now appears on their gbit servers you get 3tb a month and have to pay 14.90 per 2tb over that or you get capped to 10mbit? Also prices are reduced to 49 but 15 extra gives you the 1gbit switch port. So how does that work? If it says 1gbit but then the port is another 15 is it actually gbit or not? Or does the 15 make it unlimited and not have the 3tb limit? And if it says unlimited but it's actually not then how does that work? :giggle:

you were looking at the kimsufi. check the ovh site instead.

Hi people, thanks for all the advice throughout the thread, very helpful since I'm a seedbox noob.

Is it worth getting 1 Gbit/s unmetered as opposed to 100 Mbit/s unmetered, or does it make minimal difference?

I've heard that most networks can't support 1 Gbit so it's a waste of money since people will be maxing out at 100 Mbit - is that true?

Finally, has anyone ordered from www.xirvik.com? They're an OVH reseller but I'm looking to go with them since I wouldn't have a clue how to setup a seedbox on al dedicated server from scratch.

I wouldn't pay any extra for help setting up a seed box as it is as easy as pie and everyone here will help, me included.

1GB server is not worth it in my opinion as you will hardly if ever get the full 1gb unless you connect to someone on the same network (eg OVH) and they have 1gb too).

I would go for 100mb direct with OVH and get ubuntu desktop 8.04.

@ merc - Yep seed on the seed box and then d/l to your PC.  Much easier and saves on your home bandwidth.  Been with OVH for about 18 months now on their 100mb servers and love them.

Just signed up for a box at obtrix (seedstorm) and I must say it is amazing. They had my box ready for me to use within 2 hours of payment. Speeds are very fast, and torrentflux comes preloaded / configured. So far I highly recommend these guys. Prices are very reasonable as well.

I recommend  Seedplace.org.uk prices starting at 19 euro About support can say is wonderful, if you have problems you can contact them on Skype is almost always online. So far i recommend them.

Cant believe you recommended that bullshit smw092 .. You should seriously be banned for promoting that fucking big pile of shit, you call a REALLY GOOD SEEDBOX.

I've tried it on 3 different trackers.. I've even tried being one out of 6 leechers and 90 seeders
Highest i've been on is 300kb/s
Download speed is good, but the upload really stinks.
Thanks for making me loose 60bucks.

Now its been +4 days, and support hasnt been online one single time.
I check +10 times a day, even at night.. You should really be banned for pretending to have bought this load of crap, and then just promoting it.

edit3:Now its been almost 2 weeks
still cant get a hold of obtrix, and i've sent 2 mails and waited on support ot get online on the live chat, which they never are.
I'm requesting atleast a warning for smw092.

Me and 2 other friends wants a dedicated server with free traffic. We want to use it as downloading torrent, backup for important files(2-300GB) and set up some proxy, ftp server. Linux is OK.

But we want a server that is reliable, gives us good speeds and not alot of downtime, closing our box because of torrents. I've heard good things on OVH and KIMSUFI? But they don't sell to other that UK? We're from norway.

Price is 50euro for a month.

So far so good just don't peak out more than 20 Mbit during their peak hours and you're safe

Hi, I'm quite new to this stuff.

I'm wondering if a seedbox is for me? In the situation that I'm moving to France soon and they have a three strikes policy, so I want to cover my tracks.

I found seedbox.fr: http://www.seedbox.fr/classic and the €3 p/m configuration seems to meet my needs well, i.e. download overnight on seedbox and then download it to PC the next night etc. and wipe it out on the seedbox ready for the next batch of torrents.

Domain seems to be owned by OVH so it's all good? Also, the transfer method is FTP I believe, can this also be encrypted?

Hosting package: The one year free server.

Speeds: Very, very good never had a problem maxing out  the full 100mbit both up and download.
Support: Idiotic. I was lucky and didn't have any hardware issues with my box.

A friend of mine wasn't that lucky with his free box. Support was quick but the people there really aren't too bright. From the year hosting he had his box has been broken for 2.5 months because of problems with the hd controller. They tried to fix it by replacing the harddisk 4 times :>

ovh is a great and affordable options for anyone who wants a fast seedbox just pray you never need any support from them.

its ur fault no one elses,theres thousands of people who recommend seedboxes,etc,etc.
there's also B.A.S.E jumpers that would recommend you try it and would you.pffff

@azza dont go seedbox.fr...they have a tendancy to close the seedbox without warning or refund check my profile if peeps want seedboxes.

do not buy anything with the name "seedbox" in it. its like registering to a site with the name "warez" on it. dont do it or you might get raped. dont go bargain shoping for servers. if you cant afford one for yourself then find someone to share it with you. stick to the common dedicated servers providers like ovh, leaseweb, keyweb(?) and others.

The first part of your advice is good, the second, not so much.
Sharing a seedbox with someone is asking for trouble - you can be liable for his illicit behaviour like DDOS, or just his warez and bill is going to be in your name.
Also sticking with well known names like hvh etc is again not such a great idea because they already know how to track torrent and shut down those servers...

i should have specified: i meant someone you know and trust, and someone you can punch in the face if he screws up. and big server companies such as leaseweb and ovh are already used a lot, even for ftp sites, so they would have plenty of choice if the authorities get there. also, those big companies usually protect their users identity, unless its CP. so they wont be turning you in just like that. i remember when layeredtech got busted some years ago... i had a server there with plenty of material, and nothing happened with me.

well mine are OVH servers with NO more than 2 per server.Ive tried many seedbox hosts and my review could be read on sct and another tracker im not allowed to mention but if peeops wanna reed it ill put it up,its between about 9 different ones
THEY WERE ALL crap,oversold and customers service was non exsistent on most.
ur best off renting from a friend or get a friend to go halfs on a dedicated server and pay someone like me to install ur clients.
or your friends on irc might even be able to do it free,just like me.lol.
I take that back,im proper disappoinnted.no client no speed no refund,xirvik are the worst host ive come across.
And thats a fair few.
