Thanks for the replies.

I got my OVH Kimsufi and connected all fine remotely.

Transmission is built in and I am using that, any thoughts if I should keep using it or is it no good?

Cheers

Edit: Just wanted to say a big thank you to Biggins for all his time and help - top man!

Transmission can be buggy and often takes a long time for new versions to be allowed on most private sites.
That is as far as I'm aware the only real drawback.

seedhosts stock is unavailable, any more resellers who could ensure full sla on servers even with new ovh sla terms and conditions.

some one who would be willing to help me get an ovh server direct form ovh? and not true the bloodsuckers of a reseller surly if someone in the uk hanging here could resell it to a much lower price(than seedhost) and surly get rid of all the servers in a sec

#1023723 by unknown[80820] at 2008-10-25 04:03:48 (4 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

That would be nice but it is sort of a risk of getting caught doing that. I think OVH is supposed to be opening up their sign-ups to more countries soon. Until then I'll use seedhost.eu

#1023808 by unknown[159952] at 2008-10-25 09:44:03 (4 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Plus they only allow two new orders per account per month... so there would be a waiting list almost immediately. As ARMY says, they are planning to open up to other countries soon.

I wonder how Seedhost.eu handles it then? They must have more than two additional per month. Maybe business accounts have different restrictions. I was reading someplace else OVH puts up a ridiculous amount of servers a day, business must be great for them.

He has probably opened numerous accounts with them

I'm looking for a dedicated server ( or maybe a seedbox ) for not more than $60... What do you guys recommend ?

p.s: the site should be accepting Visa, I have no access to paypal.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

edit: fixed Vista to Visa, rofl, spending too much time on the pc can twist things up ;/

#1025980 by unknown[159952] at 2008-10-27 22:03:27 (4 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I take it you mean VISA not Vista.. anyhoo..
If you live in the EU you have a pretty good chance of being eligible to rent an ovh server <3
If you do not, then maybe server.lu is for you.. (I'm not sure on exactly where they sell to, but it's worth a look from early reports).
Failing that try to find an ovh reseller.. as hosting-ie support sucks as does the setup time of some installations.. and dedibox.fr (and it's resellers) pretty much suck.
Anyhoo good luck.
They both (obviously) offer unlimited b/w and are available for ~ $60 - or less!

Server.lu lowest spec dedicated....

Manufacturer
CPU     Athlon 64 X2 4000+ (Dual Core)
Memory     2 GByte DDR2 800
Harddisk     1 x 160 GByte SATA II (300 MByte/s)
Network     1 GBit onboard

61.2972 USD

OVH similar spec....

Intel E2180 Dual Core 2x 2.00Ghz
2GB RAM
250GB HDD
100Mbps unlimited

41.9851 USD

For the extra $20 if it were me I'd try out the www.server.lu one
gotta be worth it if gbit speeds (evidently with any server you will need to remove root access for the techs via the authroised keys to prevent them snooping.. and encrypt any traffic)

Ya Visa, silly me.. :o

That server.lu one seems interesting, might get during the week I just hope they don't shut it down because of my illegal activities

Sorry, I can't understand, if we are against overseeding, why we have a seedbox suggestions thread?

From Server.lu
******************************************************************************
Unmetered traffic means you do not have to worry about receiving surprise traffic bills.

This is what you get:

# Unmetered data transfer, in- and out-bound
# Unmetered data transfer within our network
# Improved external and internal connectivity
# Genuine 100MBit speed
# No Extra Bills

Our bandwidth policy was developed to ensure that every customer gets his fair share of the total bandwidth available. Consequently, we take into account that no customer could cause slow connectivity for others.

This is why bandwidth intensive applications such as:

# Sex sites
# Streaming
# Large FTP sites
# Proxy servers including TOR
# P2P
# IRC servers
# BitTorrent

and similar are not necessarily covered by our unmetered services and that misuse could incur a connectivity restriction after prior notification.

Interesting. Well I guess even with 10 mbps it is still cheap enough. Though I could find better.

Have OVH open the services for another country? I don't like to buy from reseller need direct support from them

#1029420 by Alibaba86 (Power User) at 2008-11-01 19:03:11 (4 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Dear Alibaba86=P

First of all I'd like to thank you for your interest in OVH services, however the dedicated servers and real private servers are only available in the regions listed here:
http://www.ovh.co.uk/items/cadre/disponibilite.xml at the moment.
Well before the end of the year we intend to make these servers available in more counties, please check with us then or check our forum at forum.ovh.co.uk.

Kind regards, Folarin.

I find it interesting that they will give a server to someone from Quebec but neither Canada nor the U.S. Hopefully soon they will offer to U.S soon too, I'd rather go directly through them.

Remove the keys that give them access and format before asking for help

Some people have pitiful home lines so use servers for seeding - duh.

Actually once you go through the order process and your from Quebec they will not sell to Canadians period. I've tried and got denied at the confirmation section of there retarded sign up process.

I thought I should tell everyone about the seedbox I use.
I got it from joesdatacenter.com
Some really cheap servers there. It's a shame they only sell p4's though
My server is:
P4 2.8ghz
512mb ram
250gb HD
Private 100mbps port
1500gb bandwidth
Directadmin free.
They have nothing aganist me running P2P on it and I can easily get up 8mb/s download from TB
Also the upload speed is amazing! Just got a 12mb/s (no jokes) speed uploading a movie to Zshare!
I recommend you check them out.

Well, I've decided it's tme to order a gbit from ovh.co.uk. (ie NOT a kimsufi). Due to their relatively new ideas of ovh.co.uk sla premium don't get capped (below 300mbit) then I think it's gotta be worth it. Especially as I'm aware there is axx running from ovh :shifty: and have heard from a friend of fxp speeds of upto 120MB/s :w00t:
Will post again once I have it and have tested
