Got an email from Vectoral (who I used to have a server with) offering the following for $159.95 per month.

Quote:

We currently have 20 unmetered servers in stock and are willing to make a great deal on them. For just $159.95 per month (This is more than 50% off the price of our competition - loaded with extras they don't even offer!), you get:

    * AMD Athlon™ 2800+
    * 1536MB DDR-RAM
    * 2 x 120GB IDE-HDD
    * 100Mbps UNMETERED Bandwidth! (DEDICATED!)

To order, go to https://secure.vectoral.info/order.php? … mp;pid=47.

Seems like a really good deal if it really is 100Mbit Unmetered on a dedicated switch.

My server plan expired with seedhost.eu (they changed their buying process, so my server was lost in the shuffle). I got a new one and elected to try out Windows Server 2003, just for the heck of it, not to mention the possibility of accessing sites otherwise blocked by my uni.

There is one problem: The keyboard is set up for a million shortcuts so I can't just type letters. I can't figure out how to stop the system from locking the server every time I press 'L', etc. Any help?

nvm. it started working. i don't know how but it did.

I take that edit back. Pressing 'L' still locks the server, although pressing 'F' doesn't open the 'Find' screen anymore. Pressing 'U' opens the Utility Manager. How do I stop this from happening?

I've got a nice a decent seedbox on CentOS 5. I can share that for free if you can go through the hoops if installing rtorrent from and don't mind the possible security issues (like me potentially being able to use your account and vice versa). PM me for details.

It isn't a default option that is for sure. Sounds like the hotkeys are stuck.

http://www.securepcsolutions.com/tweak/SYSG16.asp try this?

Is that why my seedhost.eu plan didn't get renewed? i know mine was turned off today.

Has anyone tried mybox.pfcorner.eu? In the past few days I've been emailing the admin of the site, Hans, for details on getting a box. Personally I didn't find him professional about his business. And he actually shut me out of the boxes just because I was trying to get one. I was just asking a couple of questions and possible payment methods.

@ ARMY:

Yeah, I've tried that. The hotkeys randomly seem to get turned on. It's weird and a pain; but I'm dealing with it.

I'm pretty sure that's why. The deal I had doesn't exist anymore (they upped the HDD to 250), so I don't think a renewal was allowed, not to mention their new private user area on their website.

This month I had a windows vps server from 3dgwebhosting.com

I searched for a windows server because I wanted to run another app that uses some bandwidth, and this host seemed to be the cheapest with lots of bandwidth.

Their "soho" plan has 1TB bandwidth, 15GB Space(can be a problem), and 512MB ram. I paid 15$ for it.

They are located in Canada, but speeds are still acceptable (to my standards). FTP with filezilla server + client results in 200KBps per connection, maxing out my connection of 1.6MB/s (I live in The Netherlands).

uTorrent runs great, when you have a large disk cache, e.g. 200MB. The only disadvantage I found that uTorrent and the other program I ran crashed every few days (this does not happen on my desktop) due to a memory error. And uTorrent sometimes says the disk is overloaded.

I don't think I'm going to renew my subscription though, because I just started at a university, and they a great up and download speed (Like 10MB/s up+down in "non-peak hours" )

Weird mine was 250 GB, though it was Windows and the second month of the free trial.

I am not so sure of the quality of their servers overall. The linux one I had was absolutely terrible with Torrentflux-b4rt. The Windows one rebooted every seven days for no apparent reason.

I have tried it. I got the 25gb Unmetered package and I get GREAT speeds before the torrent has reached it seeding goal of 300%. Then it get limited to 100KB/s and you arent allowed to change it.
The highest upload speed I seen on pfcorner is 9.6MB/s. Thats pretty darn good. But it didnt last long because of the darn limit.

Anyone know a simple seedbox with utorrent webu,i 25gb hdd  and minimum 2MB/s upload for around 40$ a month?
I don't need a dedicated server.

With 40$ you can get a dedicated.
My opinion is that dedicated is way more secure and/or better than some account on multishare box...

Any provider you would recommend? Preferably with Windows.

Here is a few provider I don't recommend.

http://seedboxhosting.com : VERY bad upload speed. ~300kb/s and horrid prices.
http://wewillhostit.com EXTREMELY bad upload speed 30-50kb/s and bad prices

I have just recently found out about the posibility of seedboxes. Wondering what a seedbox might do and how much one would cost I came to these forums, and found a wealth of information. Torrentbytes it seems has anticipated my question about this topic, and discussed everything in great detail. Thank you all for the great information.

Ok I did my two hours of reading about webhosting. I am ready to take to leap with Vectoral. If anyone has any objections or advice you have like minutes before I spend 30 dollars.

I paid fifty dollars for Vectoral. I guess that was an ok deal, but it seems that no one there works over the weekend as I cannot get in. This is what I got.

Intel® PIII™ 733 MHZ
512MB DDR-RAM
40GB IDE-HDD
1TB bandwidth

Still waiting...................................zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz gah

Linux is the best for those low RAM servers.
Windows only if the server has more than 1Gb RAM.
(Atleast thats my opinion )

Hello, all of you.

I've had a seedbox with seedhost.eu for a little over a week now, and I have to say that I am more than happy about the service. Support is fast, and the admin is very easy to talk to and he's very friendly. They are a reseller of OVH, and the prices are inflated a lot, but even so, I find them very cheap. I always get 11 MB/s in both directions any time at the day. Affordable servers and very good in general. I recommend them.

I've got my eye on their €60 dedicated box and was looking for someone who uses them to tell me if it's as good as I've heard. Thanks for the info.

How long did it take you to get your box after ordering?

I need help. I would think that you're probably right about linux, but I have'nt a clue as to how to get my server to even open up. Now that I think about it. If one of you all want to share a seedbox I may be persuaded to open it up to someone who knows how to work the thing. heh
It might be a help if anyone knows of a newbie tutorial that I can look at.

It depends which route you are going to go either torrentflux-b4rt or rtorrent with a wtorrent frontend. Torrentflux is pretty resource heavy, but I didn't give rtorrent a try either. Which distro do you have on your server?

Check this link, it's very clear and easy to follow and then you have linux box nicely configured.

I recomend http://seedboxen.net/ they're who I use anyway...

speeds are pretty awesome, I usually get 20MB/s on well seeded torrents

once saw it spike to 70MB/s on one of the movie torrents here

the owner is usually around on MSN and he's cool to talk with you about any issues and even setup extra stuff if you need, like I wanted http access to all my files as well as ftp.

they do discounts if you are okay to pay several months in advance, or if you're a friend of a current customer

might be worth mentioning my nick, I think they'll give you about 20% off

Unlimited bandwidth is a marketing trick...

The actual cost of bandwidth from suppliers is between 1$/Mb/s/mo and 10$/Mb/s/mo, anyone offering it for less than that is NOT selling you a dedicated link, but rather a SHARED link.

Whether or not this suits you depends on your needs, but I've found on the more competitive sites shared bandwidth just doesn't cut it.

#1004310 by Alibaba86 (Power User) at 2008-09-18 15:34:29 (4 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

lol, i was suppose to wright something more there but forgot all about it

Unlimited bandwidth is a marketing trick...

no it is not, as dedicated unlimited bandwidth then you have a a port of 100mb/1gb ect fro you self.
other than that as we all know you are on a shared on.

but 1TB on the seedbox marked yes, its better than nothing, but far from optimal

running a ftp server on the side there, and your out of bandwidth before the first 2 weeks:-)

OT: can anyone with a box at ovh please set up a file that i can download (100mb) just to test the speed to my current location. yap you could take it on PM

I didn't really understand what you were trying to say there... :-/

But nonetheless, here's a gem from OVH's shaping policy on their gigabit servers...

SLA:
When a customer uses less than 101Mbps of bandwidth on his server(s), he is entitled to a SLA connection. That means that we don't limit the total bandwidth per server. However, we check the bandwidth used at each connection (the flow), a ftp or web downloading for instance. In the case of SLA bandwidth, the customer is not limited if the download is less than 32MB. He uses all the available and useable bandwidth. If the download used 32 MB, the router limits the downloading connection (and only this downloading) to 10Mbps.

NoSLA:
If the customer used more than 101 Mbps on his server(s), OVH can decide to manually switch his server(s) into noSLA mode, for outgoing bandwidth (only). This means that we don't limit the total bandwidth per server. However, we check the bandwidth used by each connection (the flow), ftp or web downloading for instance. In the case of noSLA bandwidth, each connection (flow) is limited to a value that evolves during the day, every hour and according to the recipient and variation between 10Mbps and 512 Kbps (during rush hours) .

To sum up , noSLA is:
- Total bandwidth per server is not limited. You are entitled to 100Mbps or 1Gbps (according to the offer).
- Bandwidth per connection
- Between 0h and 9am: 10 Mbps per connection
- Between 9am and 3pm: reduce of 5 Mbps to 500 Kbps per connection
- Between 3 pm and 9pm: 500 Kbps per connection
- Between 9pm and 11pm: re-increase 500Mbps to 5Mbps per connection
- Between 11pm and midnight: 10 Mbps per connection
