ok well peeps got to say , ovh are good they are situated in france and they are on 100 mb dedicated lines my box gets 30.9 mb a sec down

100Mbps equal 12,5MB/sec not counting the necessary checkbits. Anything above is just an indication error.

Also, guys, PLEASE use these boxes responsively. Prices like these at OVH only work because the vast majority of customers don't use any bandwidth at all. It's a mixed calculation. If the amount of customers blasting terabyte after terabyte through their network keeps rising, they WILL start to look after wtf is causing these people to use that much bandwidth.

I've had my seedbox with OVH for over a month now and I have no complaints at all, it's great, highly recommended.

I can't typically get transfers over 4,300 KB/s (34.4 Mb/s) seeding files with 1/4 SLR. I can max out if I start downloading, but I've only seen my ups go to 6,000-7,000 a couple times. Anyone have the same issue? (It may just be my hardware. I've got a basic Kimsufi.)

Why not? I am always interested in new hosts. Do you advertise on WHT, maybe I can catch it there?

Indeed we do. Look for my name there (Web Advertising --> Other Hosting Forums)

This is what I have been seeing so far in the 12 hours I have had my OVH server. It is quite easy to break 10 mb/s when downloading from all the OVH people but uploading is kind of hard to get that high.

#963536 by unknown[242393] at 2008-06-28 18:31:41 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I'm thinking it's probably just connection issues. (If it's not, it'd have to be hardware, which wouldn't surprise me.) It's not a hug deal to me, though. I've already moved 1.5 terabytes of information in four days. I'm pretty happy with that. I'd be about done over at LW right now, so I'm satisfied.

#963620 by unknown[80820] at 2008-06-28 22:43:15 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I agree. Since I pay about the same for both LW and OVH, as long as I get more than 2 TB a month I will be happy. It looks to be well on its way to beat that anyhow.

Just ordered one from seedhost.eu, time to apply back to be an uploader

edit: OMG, I love it. Delivery time was about 8 hours from my payment, and the speeds are awesome! Downloading 10MB/s, and at the same time uploading 5MB/s!

Can anyone give a speedtest to OVH servers? Wanna do bandwith test :-). Thank you

Now, yeah. It was down (confirmed by others also), it was down about 50 minutes

I ordered myself a new ovh server, with 750gb hdd space and a 100mbit connection, I spent the first 30 minutes downloading at 30MB/s (that's MegaBytes per second)

and then it started limiting at 11.7MB/s   But it's all good!

#972740 by unknown[262944] at 2008-07-22 23:54:59 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

can sum1 explain to me how the measurements work. i.e/ MB/s and mb/s are different.

how fast should my server be hitting on 100mbit or 100MBit i dont kno.

my home connection is 4.5 and i've seen it hit around 400kb/s wen ftping 2 files from my ovh, is this about right?

lets say i have a 1gb file and it's coming down at 250kb/s how do i work out how long it's gonna take? ( without looking in the column that says ETA lol. )

i've been away 4 a couple of weeks. just got back and i've got power status! woop woop!

#972815 by unknown[80820] at 2008-07-23 04:14:56 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Line speeds are rated in bits. When you download you see bytes. There are 8 bits per byte. So a 100 megabit line would yield a theoretical maximum of 12.5 megabytes/sec. At 250 kb/s you would download a gigabyte in just over an hour.

Seedhost down again?

#974966 by scarecrowswe (Power User) at 2008-07-29 07:14:29 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Has anyone signed up with seedhost.eu using a fake/bogus identity. Do they care about what name and address you use?
I would like to stay below the radar if possible....I mean I AM a pirat! :-P

And have anyone had any problem with using the same IP as someone else, as in the tracker seeing it as multiple users on the same IP?

Cheers

#974979 by unknown[242393] at 2008-07-29 08:27:10 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I haven't, but using any form of payment they're going to get your identity anyway. CC or PayPal reveals your identity.

No, there is no problem with IP addresses. OVH gives unique IPs to their servers. How else would they run a hosting company? What would you think if you tried to go to a site about werewolves and ended up on a site about tutus? That'd be a little bogus and bad for business.

Sorry... I was referring to Shared Servers, the IP is shared by the different user of the server.
I will try not to offend you again......

PayPal don't reveal MY indentity...not my "special" account anyway

Offend? It takes a lot more than a good question to offend me.

I couldn't say anything about the shared servers. They really aren't good for seedboxes if you want the best bang-for-buck. If you just want to be cheap they're fine, but if you can afford a dedicated server, by all means, go for it.

lol. OK, then. You use that account. I doubt they'll care about your address. I signed up with LW and gave a fake name/address to protect myself from a WHOIS-esque lookup.

seedhost prices is hilarious, and a rip off (dedicated) if you look on the ovh prices
