debian d utorrent with wine is just perfect. I dont get rtorrent to work good on my server. If i leech at 10MB/s it takes all my memory.

That did not happend with utorrent

That's not going to cause that much of problem as it's rare that you're going to have to leech at 10MB/s for all that long.

on many other trackers ou almost need 10MB/s  up and down to buffer your account.

With rtorrent i cant leech dvd without rtorrent takes all my memory,
With utorrent i max up and down.

Just ordered an OVH Kimsufi 8 too - fingers crossed.

Damn, wish I lived in the EU. (purely for p2p *ovh* reasons. if it depended on civil liberties, i'd still take the U.S. of A. but that's another topic...)

I'm new to this seedbox thing. Leaseweb seems to have a fairly competitive deal: 39e/month (around 80 USD, give or take) for 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, Debian, 100/100, 2TB. I'm fairly proficient with GNU/Linux, so I have no issue going with Debian. Compared to Vectoral, it's really no match: better system specs plus 2x HDD space for a couple bucks more at LW. Are there any other companies I should be investigating?

That being said, if I do decide to jump into the world of seedboxes, what ducks do I need to get in a row? that is, what should be on my checklist of preparations?

Guys you should try www.fdcservers.net i used to push 10TB per month and sometimes more with no extra chargers been using them for 1 year already very fast support total bandwith 101Gbps

#948491 by unknown[120138] at 2008-05-27 13:11:00 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I have a fdc server atm... I got 2 months price for 3 months use... so worked out to 110 a month

they are good and you do get about 10TB but the being us based does cause some issues to speed since most users are based in EU on this site, and also the fact your in the anti piracy capitol lol

definitely the best bang for buck in usa though

I think I've settled on LeaseWeb myself. There are a few others but they have lesser hardware and cost more. If you can't get OVH, LeaseWeb is the next best choice. FDC was great, I used them for a long time with great speeds. I also used to run a private FTP out of The Planet datacenter and used to do around 4 TB a month. But I would rather stay out of the US with my seedbox.

Yep, I chose LeaseWeb as well. It took some serious thought, but I figured them the best. Now I've just got to wait for my server information to be sent my way. That's the painful part: the wait. :'-(

I haven't ordered yet. I was wondering how long the setup time would be. I should order soon so I can get it running this weekend.

#949227 by unknown[242393] at 2008-05-28 22:23:47 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I ordered yesterday and got my setup email today. My server will actually be running on the first of June. If you want it by Sunday I'd suggest ordering by tomorrow at the latest.

#949251 by unknown[80820] at 2008-05-28 23:31:22 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I ordered it today. I figure they probably won't get to it until late tonight since they are 5 hours ahead? Hopefully by the time I get home from my classes it'll be ready for me which is great since I don't have class on Friday.

Forgive my thick-headedness, but I've lost myself. I'm pretty knowledgeable with GNU/Linux, but I'm completely new to this. Would someone mind walking me through the steps to set up a Debian seedbox with torrentflux-b4rt? as well as SFTP transfer?

#949306 by unknown[80820] at 2008-05-29 02:24:55 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

You'll have to install mysql first then follow this guide:

http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php? … ntfluxb4rt

For SFTP here is a guide:

http://www.howtoforge.com/mysecureshell … ebian_etch

This is new to me too. Last time I did a seedbox I used bit tornado CLI edition and regular FTP. This time I figured using 2008 server would be easier especially with utorrent web gui.

#949307 by unknown[242393] at 2008-05-29 02:51:22 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I got stuck at step 15. It wouldn't work because I didn't have apache2 installed, then I got that installed and now I can't get to my setup.php file

The error I get is the following:

* Not starting apache2 - edit /etc/default/apache2 and change NO_START to be 0.

Then I tried starting apache2 manually:

apache2: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for ServerName
(98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:80
(98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80
no listening sockets available, shutting down
Unable to open logs

*edit*
Dangit. Now when I SSH into my server via putty and enter my password putty shuts down... Now I'm wishing I'd just gotten the Windows Server.

Did you edit anything with your SSH config? I remember once I changed the port to prevent brute force attacks and forgot I changed the port.

For your apache/mysql needs try this:

#949334 by unknown[242393] at 2008-05-29 05:15:58 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

No, I didn't edit anything, at least manually. I can log into my server, but putty just shuts down. It's odd. It shows my last login time (i can read it if i record a video, for it only displays for one frame). It's extremely frustrating to pay $80+ then be locked out of your own server.

Thanks for that link. I'll check it out.

#949343 by unknown[80820] at 2008-05-29 05:52:35 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Yeah, I'd open up a support ticket and tell them to get on it. I'm not sure what could have went wrong, maybe a simple reboot will fix it.

#949381 by unknown[242393] at 2008-05-29 10:20:13 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Ok. I started a ticket. The first response was your usual "We think you're probably stupid so we're going to tell you all the extremely obvious stuff, like how to actually log into your server via SSH," but hopefully we'll get somewhere soon.

Thanks for the input. I'll post when I figure something out.

I just got my server and they gave me a 20 GB hard drive instead of a 160 GB one. :/

So now I wait myself.

#949514 by unknown[242393] at 2008-05-29 18:28:43 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Man, that sucks majorly. They were really good with me about support, so hopefully it goes very quickly for you.

Thankfully I'm going to have a clean slate to work with. I tried to install GDM to get an XServer, but apparently the installation failed. One of the gentlemen who helped me said he couldn't log in and uninstall it because the package manager was disabled. :-O

I don't know what happened, but they're reinstalling my server! :clap2:

Yay for LeaseWeb!

Yeah Yay for LeaseWeb support indeed. I had the right hard drive, its just they had a partition for the OS and left the rest unallocated for me to partition and format the way I wanted. So, I'm up and running now, woot woot.

wich i was smart enough for this seed box thingy if i ever think it becomes a nescessity i`ll probably do it untill then its an expense i don`t need

But i must admit i`m jealous of all this seed box stuff

i just want a fater connection!!!!

They are all going to say p2p isn't allowed to cover their ass. You can get unmetered packages, but they start at 199 Euros. They do have boxes that start at 29 Euros and 2 TB of bandwidth. I already have one, but I'm going through the bandwidth pretty quickly, might need to get more.
