Not sure about that site.. first off, they spelled hosting wrong, and it says unlimited bandwidth, not unmetered, which means you might be charged per GB transferred.

yeah could be, was just surfing and there they where.
but strange thing is that you get (on the most) 1gb to the nix.cz and then 16mbit (at the most) out and in :S

is port opening required using a server?

#860969 by unknown[172030] at 2007-12-02 16:06:31 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

@ wartie: Yep, I used to upload with it. It was great.

@ jyap: Not unless you DONT want to be connectable.

Doesn't it bother anyone that you're giving your putting your name and credit information on a server that will be physically hosting illegal content???

That's something that wonders me too. I did some research  and found: You can't hide. Assuming you do not use a stolen credit-card

You can use fake name, addresse, phone number, ... but at the point you pay for the service your real name (plus address), or at least the data of the person that pays the service for you, will show up.

Gotcha.

The other thing is: Seeding over your internet provider isn't that anonym too

If anyone has more info/tipps to that anonymity problem, please post or pm.

Guys

I've got my seedbox yesterday and I wonder what is the best way to transfer files from seedbox to my home PC?

I would presume it is to setup FTP server in seedbox and connect to it? if it is the case should I go for ssl/tsl or normal ftp server? knowing that my seedbox has only TCP/IP filtering so only port like 21 is open

also what is the best way to boost the upload speed? I noticed that I could hit high upload speed with public trackers but when it comes to private like TB is really slow!

I would appreciate any input

First things first, yes FTP is probably the way to go, but the fact that you're limited when choosing what ports to use on your FTP means that you'll probably pick 21, witch is prolly not so good because that will only draw bad stuff to it, like bots etc, all attacks first try on port 21. Also I see no need in encrypting your connection, using SSL etc when you're just gonna leech to your home PC.. No reason to do it IMO.

Second, the reason you get bad upload speed at private trackers is probably because they don't allow any port to be used (and you are very limited I guess when picking ports?) I assume public trackers let you use whatever port you want and that's why you get better speed to those.

These are just my thoughts tho ^^..

Plus, on public trackers there's an abundance of leechers, whereas private trackers have an abundance of seeders.

ZuGuli & Mistral

Thanks both of you for the response. I just sent an email for them asking about the possibility to open more ports and will wait for their reply

Vectoral has a wicked awesome deal for server recently, christmas special..

Ordered mine yesterday and had it setup and waiting for me when I woke up today.
It's just what I was looking for too this past month or two, a 40gb hdd, 1TB of bandwidth on a 100mbit and windows 2k3 web edition on it for free, and it fell right at the max i set for myself, 50 bucks.

I'm a total seedbox/server noob too, the windows thing really helps. a ton. cause its so easy XD
*hugs vectoral*

If you are using Windows 2k3 web edition and you would like to open and close ports then you should read this article

It was a great help for me

Vectoral accepts E-Gold. E-Gold, used properly, can be 100% anonymous. That will cover the payment side of keeping anonymous

Ectraz2008:

Torrentflux on FC6 should be fine. What are the specs of the PC?

if you know your way around linux it'll be fine.

The best option has always been utorrent ever since they made the web interface.  If you have windows it is easy, but if you have linux, youll have to install wine to get it to work.  Once you get it working, it works very very well.  Thats what I used for all my torrent clients

#881586 by unknown[120138] at 2008-01-10 07:17:15 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

utorrent and most windows based clients are terrible at high speeds, utorrent 1.8 is soposed to have a fix to bypass the windows cache / paging and will hopfully run much better... I use windows when I can because I find it easier to manage files and fix when something goes wrong... linux does run faster though especially when downloading

It's just a load of old pieces I decided to throw into a case to see what I could make of it, the only new parts are the hdd's which are Hitatchi deskstar 500 Gig
1Ghz AMD processor
1,5 gigs of ram
ATI radeon 9800 256mb ram GFX card
1TB of storage
Runs Ubuntu server client
uses Rtorrent.
Edit: It's on a 50/50Mbps connection

Just want to know your thoughts on this

That looks more then sufficient for a rtorrent seedbox. I want that too (and the connection!).
