Hell yes!

I don't find it necessary, FreeQuest works fine just like it is.  IRC servers cost money right? So use the money for something more useful, like the DOX FTP server !

Naw, we could run it from one of our existing servers. No problem there.

Oh, then nevermind, I change my vote to an inbetween "Hell yes!" and "Freequest is fine"

Hell Yes!

hate the freequest /msg nickserv identify crap

I don't really care because I mostly use the forums rather than IRC.  However, it makes sense to have our own IRC server, so that TB Admins/Mods are in control.  It's also nice to have a little privacy.

I think nick registration is a good thing on any server.  See how you like it when someone uses your nick to raise hell in #tb, and you get a ban...

not really, not point in it actually aside for the neat little "torrentbytes" instead of the "freequest"

big whoop

#66731 by unknown[13637] at 2005-02-10 05:07:00 (8 years ago) - [Report]Top

if you could set it up like oink has it set up that would be even better.  i can't even get onto feeequest irc.  sumthin about registering and i read the stickyon it,but i ended  up giving it up since i could just easily go onto oink's irc.

i'm for either though i find freequest is fine

though i hope that we allow port 7000 unlike the old tb irc

otherwise i can't connect

#66819 by JEFFSR (The Ferret) at 2005-02-10 07:03:26 (8 years ago) - [Report]Top

hmm should we be worrying about getting the site tip top before worrying about another load item on the servers?

#66844 by mchan065 (Power User) at 2005-02-10 07:33:31 (8 years ago) - [Report]Top

#66865 by unknown[37] at 2005-02-10 07:52:08 (8 years ago) - [Report]Top

#66958 by unknown[46686] at 2005-02-10 09:48:38 (8 years ago) - [Report]Top

To set up and run an IRC server is fast and easy
And since IRC doesn't consume any bandwith to speek of there is no harm in putting one up
Announcers and other fun stuff like pollbots, triviabots and so on just to name a few.
the sky is the limit when it comes to IRC and bots

damn, it's good to be the king

#66973 by GomezieDonor (Power User) at 2005-02-10 10:01:53 (8 years ago) - [Report]Top

Definately its only a good thing.. plus you would have more control!

#67089 by unknown[17385] at 2005-02-10 11:41:00 (8 years ago) - [Report]Top

I don't like the idea, i mean when the servers are down when nforce-network is unreachable - no IRC.
It's much better to go with a "real" distributed IRC network like Freequest.
