So the new dash will be able to write firmware to the DVD-ROM drive?  Sounds like BS to me...

EDIT - Seems like there's a new firmware that can read an extra 1Gb of data from special DVD9 discs.  Which means that the firmware may well be cracked and spoofed but we won't be able to write the data onto a standard DVD+R DL.

It all seems unlikely as they can't spec a new disc out to be used with old DVD-ROMs - we'll have to wait and see.

you've got it wrong mike

the new dash is reflashing all drive firmware no matter if it's modded or not just to support the extra data.

the dvd space will remain the same theres no new disc there simply compressing security to allow the extra data to take the space

it'd be a bad move for M$ to patent a new type of disc so late into it's life cycle especially with bluray being the next step

lots of people waiting on 225 but can't see it being anytime soon with the new beta dash flashing 225's to 227's now and flashing all benq liteons to new firmware

i'd hold off flashing anything just yet especially if you want live

they reflash your drive you flash back and they don't know your flashed highly doubt it

Quick newbie question:

I want to purchase a X360 basically just to play backups offline therefore I don't care whether the console is banned. Would everything function as normal as long as I make sure the firmware on the drive is kept up to date? I read something about the HDD getting corrupted but would that effect my gameplay? I've seen tons of white HDMI X360s for around £50 doesn't seem too bad if I can game for free.

Are you looking at buying a pre-flashed one?  If not you need to make sure it comes with a flashable drive.

I've not checked for a while but I don't think the slims are flashable still.

get a fat xbox 360 to be sure and everything will be fine, the hdd is getting corrupted if you put it in another xbox 360 and even if it gets corrupt you format the drive and everything is fine + ther is a way to uncorrupt a xbox hdd, don't worry about the hdd
Basically with a fat xbox 360 you can't get wrong older models have heating issues if the machine is repaired go for it if it isn't search for a xbox with liteon drive, to sum it up buy a fat xbox be sure that it doesn't have heating problems, it doesn't have a clamp fix, if the machine is repaired (reballing) buy it and search for the newer liteons 2009-2010 or at least the hitachi ones and if you buy a hitachi just be sure to clean it and replace the thermal paste with a quality brand then replace it every 8 months or so

I was hoping someone in the the know might be able to give me a simple answer. I have a banned fat 360 with a liteon drive and - i think - 1.51 firmware. I'd been patching games to wave 3 so they would run but I haven't written a game to disc in about a year or so. All I want is to be able to play LA Noire when it comes out. Will I need to reflash to LT+ or will I still be able to just patch the video data?

? it's easy to reflash a liteon drive that's already flashed i have done it to a friend of mine, i powered on the drive through the xbox in the phase of deleting the firmware of the drive i was unpluging the power cable of the drive and pluging it onto the drive again you only need a via sata card to do so

ps. the only problem is that the xbox will shut down after a while if it finds no drive (sata cable pluged on the via card) but that's not a big issue  you should be able to flash

AP2.5 games will need to be ran thru ABGX again and reburned.

So my brother went ahead and updated our old premium 20 gig's Xbox.
which was flashed with 1.51 and had no problems whatsoever playing burned games with an activation disc.
now for some reason im unable to play any of them, which obviously im guessing has to do with the new dashboard update.
will it be any complications reflashing it due to having the newest dashboard update or will it be alright again?

If you stored the drive key there should not be a problem.
if not, you may need some new equipment depending on your drive type, good luck.
