right so I'm buying a 360. Doesn't need to be new, so I'm thinking of buying a used one on ebay. though I really want the live thing to play online. Though, what happens if the live account is banned. Can one simply remake a new one or is it bind to the console. I rather not take the risk of buying a console for say 300$ when I can buy a new one for 400 ish.

Your consoles serial gets blacklisted from Live, so no profile at all can be connected to Live if it happens.

But i've heard that as long as you always keep the flash updated when never updates for live gets released and don't play games before their real release dates you'll be fine. Not sure though, since i'm no real expert.

there is no way to guarantee safety from the ban hammer, none at all.

and yeah as Snuffsis says, the console gets blacklisted for good and I don't believe there is a way to get it reversed.

Go with a new one and the best you can do as far as I know is to make sure the games are good rips and check the integrity of them with certain programs (not sure what the latest and best app for this currently is) and don't play games before the street date and of course try and keep up to date with firmware news and try and have the "best" available firmware.

Even this though cant guarantee safety as microsoft are always looking at ways of detecting modded firmware and a firmware that's said to be safe now may not be safe this time next week.

Just try and be careful and enjoy live for as long as you can, you may be lucky, you may not be.

Its a bit of a gamble as far as I know.

buy a 2nd hand 1 on ebay and mod it.
buy a 2nd brand new and keep it legit (no mods), then simply buy the titles you enjoyed playing on ur modded xbox for your legit box - presto safe gaming.

360s are dirt cheap now its worth doing things that way if u care about being banned

hmm fair enough. Seeing how the new slim came out maybe the pro ones will drop in price as well. The only games I'm interested in really though Is Mw2, assassins creed and maybe uncharted. I mainly want this to play with some mates in sweden since we all quit wow and dont have time for it anymore.

I have had 3 modded xbox 360s and am now onto my 4th 360 and I have not bothered hacking it.

The reason is that after having a hacked xbox for a while I realise probably 90% of the games I was downloading were crap and only a handful are worth having.

So what I do now is download cross platform games for the PC (when possible) and buy 360 exclusives I want (not that many) and buy ps3 exclusives I want (again, not that many).

If you really only want it for a handful of games and you do want to be on xbox live then I would say don't bother modding it.

That is the only way to be safe on xbox live.

The Uncharted series are PS3 exclusives in case you didn't know, worth buying a ps3 for if you ask me, quality games.

damn,was hoping for someoe to find a way to bypass this by now as i already have the JTAG chip lying about now got to hunt for an older XBoX if there is still any out there. :-(

I don't think it will ever be bypassed, since the update that MS launched to prevent the JTAG-exploit, burns an e-fuse. So it's nearly impossible to downgrade the kernel.

I wouldn't touch a second hand 360 unless it was extremely cheap but I am talking like "giving it away for peanuts" cheap.

You may be lucky but I think its more likely you will get either a banned from live xbox or a repaired machine that probably wont last long at all.

I suspect the majority of older 360`s are dead tbh.

It's saved to your harddrive, but the license is bound to the cpu serial no.

I just bought Slim one with FREE 12 month live(BING).
So i'm interesting what kind of parts it got in (SAMSUNG,BENQ or so) can you tell me how to find out or where to find this kind of information?

its most likely a liteon drive, check out xboxhacker forums and look for pics posted there.
going by what those guys are saying, the slim up to now is bullet proof
