hey guys... im sorry if this is the wrong channel.. my english is a little unstable...
the reason why i was posting this thing was because i head rumors about that you can "Flash" your xbox 360(almost like chipping.. so you can burn games into a disk and play it on your console)

I would appriciate if anyone knew about this.. and please tell me if its possible or not.
If its true i have some questions:

-can you play on xbox live?
-can you get achivements?
-Is this 100% safe and easy to do?

and i say again: im rell sorry if this is the wrong channel

Yes you can play on Xbox Live

Yes you can get achievements

Nothing is 100% safe when it comes to playing games online on a flashed xbox. But if you use common sense then it's pretty safe

Regarding the flashing procedure look at the link a few posts back

You will need to burn them in order to install them to the harddrive. You'll also have to have the disc in the 360 when you start the game. Other than that, you don't really need to do anything.

So i just got my black 360 "elite", took off the face plate thingy to see them damned yellow wires >> tho i cant say i wasn't expecting it. This all started about a week ago when i saw another friend who does have a flashed 360 play Dirt 2 (wow what a game) and then me trying to flash another friends 360 just to open it to  find out he had DG-16D2S -74850C (manufacture date Aug 2008) lol. Am kinda at a crossroads on what to do =(. I can open a console i just paid £200 for and void the warranty just to risk getting 74850C (yes yes i know it it can be flashed or something along the lines via something you can buy on the net or by replacing the drive) or i could open it to find 83850C (from what i understand can be softmodded).

Am a total newbie to the 360 scene (was into the ps2/Psp scene back in the day and normally have good luck flashing/modding stuff) and only know what information i do from what ive read on here and other sites but i do tend to read up in advance before trying things.

Tbh i think i will just go buy Fable 2 and leave it for abit then maybe buy this tool/older drive P

Just made sense of everything I need to do to flash my 360, took it apart set it up on my bluray's sata connection. Went to install PortIO32 and to my horror discovered it is only good on a 32 bit system. Does any one know a way around this besides using another operating system or dos?

#1189065 by unknown[242393] at 2009-10-04 19:14:45 (3 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I've never been able to get PortIO32 working on an x64 system. I always dual-booted or ran a DOS boot disk off of a USB drive.

I cam eacross this company on t'internet that'll do it for £22.50 (half the price of a new game!)

I you have anything else than a Lite-On drive in your xbox it's just a matter of reading up until you know what to do. It can seem a bit overwhelming at first glance but once you dig a little deeper it's actually quite simple. Programs like Jungleflasher are pretty straight forward.

#1190907 by unknown[9089] at 2009-10-09 15:41:29 (3 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

if its 22 quid all in to get it modded thats a good deal no matter what drive you have, but yes I will also agree with nexer in saying that if its not a liteon drive then you can do it yourself after a little bit of reading.

but £22 is a good deal

#1190952 by NexerDonor (Power User) at 2009-10-09 17:35:05 (3 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Yeah, if you have absolutely no friggin' idea what your doing you should probably let someone else fiddle with it.

Also once your Lite-On drive has been modded with iXtreme you'll be able to extract the drive key when future firmwares get released.

hi guys.

my girlfriend and I are planning on buying ourselves an xbox ! I think. We mainly want to play guitar hero, but i secretly want it for other games also. So, could you in a couple of short sentences bring me up to speed with how xbox works ? I don't really know much about consoles from the times of when I had a ps1, so, anything you tell me helps..

On this slovenian internet site, which sells stuff, it says that arcade jasper is 190 eur, elite jasper is 270 eur, and metallica bundle, which is a metallica guitar hero game + a guitar is 107  eur.

What should I do? Buy the normal one, or elite one, i'm guessing the elite one is better, but is it worth the money? I am also kinda skeptical about buying second hand.. they all seem to have those 3 red dots (the ring of death or smth?) fault, which I don't really know much about, if it's overheating, why don't they just cool it a bit.

Oh, I'll use a 24" monitor with it, and in the future a bigger tv most likely.
Uhm, and cracked games. If i make an investment and buy a new xbox now, will i be able to unlock it and play games downloaded from here ? + what about xbox live, i see some payment cards are needed n shit.

I'm in dark here, please try to sum a bit of info up and write it here.

thanks, -slo

You start the console, put the game in, play the game. That part hasn't really changed since the PS1.
You'll want an Xbox with a harddrive, ie not the arcade version. If you get it second hand, make sure it's still within the RRoD warranty(which I believe is 3 years). Once you get the red rings of death, it's broken. Letting it cool down is not going to help, it has to go home to MS.

If you flash it, you will be able to play games from here. As for Xbox Live, you'll either need to buy cards, or have a credit card and an Internet connection.
Using Live with a flash Xbox is always a risk, but if you only use proper releases and don't play the games before street date, you should be fine.

but doesnt flashing it break the warranty ?

so i buy an elite one with 120 gb hd, flash it and pray it doesnt go red rings of death? does it break often and why does that happen?

#1191161 by WandelDonor (Pirate) at 2009-10-10 12:56:12 (3 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Well yeah, but only if they notice it ;-)
I had mine "professionally" flashed. When it broke down, I took it back and had it de-flashed, sent it to MS and got a brand new one back.

And if you get a new one these days, chances are pretty small it'll red ring to being with.

and how hard is it to flash it by yourself ? the elite version

edit: huh, i did some reading, this shit seems to be bigger than it first looks.

I'm gonna buy elite jasper type of xbox, which method should i use to flash it? is it impossible now to get red rings of death? as i can tell the elite jasper type is newer than the types where you guys were getting that failure.

can i flash it on my own, for free, should i find a local flasher, how much will it cost to flash when a new patch comes out etc.

I didn't do mine myself, although it's very possible to do that. I just went to a store I know, so I never checked around for any prices. It was about €50 for the first time, and then 25 or 35 for updates. When I had it de-flashed, that cost me another 50, but they re-flashed my new one free of charge.

And yeah, the jaspers are newer, but it's never "impossible" for it to RRoD. But that goes for all electronics, really.

Is there a way I can get them to ship it to me, even though i'm in europe? aka has anyone tried convincing amazon to do it for a higher cost or smth?
