Hello guys!

I have a couple of questions you can probably answer rather quickly, without me having to go through over 2000+ post in this topic, I have used the search option, but it didn't gave me the results I was looking for. Maybe the wrong search query. Anyway

I've spend bit of cash on a proper good 5.1 system with AV reciever capable of transfering sound and vidio up to 1080p by hdmi, and sound of DTS 5.1 dolby ect, everything you can imagine.

I have a screen with VGA dvi andHDMI input and full HD resolution compatibility. 1920x1200 WUXGA <with pixelmapping>

and I have and old xbox360 (pre hdmi) with a component vga hd cable.

1: Is the cable capable of delivering FULL HD, or is it being upscaled from 540i to 1920x1080?

2 : Does the Xbox 360 Component HD AV Cable when put through my reciever, and then to my monitor deliver full hd, of better quality then the vga cable ?

3: Is the s/ pdif cable for sound the better option or does the HD AV cable the job good enough ?

Thanks in advance !

1. the old xbox can do 1080p over component cable as long as your TV accepts 1080p over component which not all do!, check that your TV accpets it

Don't forget that it's all just upscaled anyway and not full hd ;-) but as said, as long as your tv accepts the signal in 1080p then component is fine :-)

nahh there are actual 1080p games, NBA etc etc but the list is tiny.

so tiny its almost pointless lol

#1180170 by EarwigDonor (VIP) at 2009-09-08 11:02:36 (3 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I am pretty sure that the actual resolution of the games is not 1920x1080

I always thought they are a far lower res and then upscaled ?

#1180174 by unknown[9089] at 2009-09-08 11:30:25 (3 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

nahh I am fairly sure (not completely 100%) that a few games like nba home court, some marvel game and a few arcade titles are native 1080p.

#1180386 by PhantomaDonor (Power User) at 2009-09-08 22:20:26 (3 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Looks like there's only a handful of native 1080p xbox360 games really.

1. Yes, as goofy said above
2. I remember a site which compared VGA, Component, HDMI on an Xbox 360 using a game like Farcry Instincts upscaled to 1080p.  Viewing the pics they had, imho HDMI was only marginally better than Component, followed closely by VGA.

However, if you watch a dvd movie on the xbox 360 it will default to 480p/540p using a Component cable but if you use a VGA cable it will upscale to 1080p when watching the movie.
This is something to do with the movie studios.
3. The HD AV cable you have only has stereo, white and red?  With the spdif cable you will get 5.1 from your surround system.  It's awesome playing war games.

Okey! Thanks for the info !

So to recap, I do gain a bit of quality buying the HD AV cable, connecting it to my reciever, which puts it through to my monitor ( does run 1080p I checked ), and for the sound is the s pdif cable a must, why else buy such a good audio set and not use its full potential. Thanks people, I know what to do !

If you were referencing getting audio from the HDMI signal after running it through a receiver, I'm not sure there will be any difference between that and S/PDIF. If you were referencing the audio from component cables (like Phantoma said, with the red, green, blue, yellow, white and red A/V cables), then you'll only get stereo sound.

I'm probably just talking out of my ass as my guess is you were talking about the component cables anyway, but I thought I'd throw this out there just in case.

Hi guys and girls!

I'm getting a new 360 soon and have a few questions.

1. Are all the Liteons moddable?

2. All I need is the Connectivity Kit 3 and a Probe?

3. Can the firmware be dumped and flashed through USB? My main computer has 64bit Windows and i think there is no 64bit PortIO driver. Or is there a way to mod a liteon through SATA with 64bit?

#1183017 by unknown[242393] at 2009-09-16 22:23:16 (3 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

1. Yes, the LiteOns are all moddable.
2. You don't necessarily need both (that is, you can make your own hardware... or at least parts of it), but both are generally recommended.
3. I'm not aware of any method for flashing 360 DVD drives in a 64-bit OS, but you can always boot a DOS disk and flash from there. I recommend flashing in DOS anyway.

does anybody have the list of drives that can backup 360 games ? i cant seem to find it

#1184002 by unknown[242393] at 2009-09-19 21:53:39 (3 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Any drive can backup a burned 360 game using Imgburn (or equivalent, I assume), since the disc isn't encrypted. However, if you are talking about drives that can be flashed with Kreon firmware to backup retail Xbox 360 games, here's a list:

Samsungs:
SH-D162C
SH-D162D
SH-D163A
SH-D163B

Toshiba:
TS-H352C
TS-H353A

I'm pretty sure there are a couple more, but I'm not on my main PC at present and can't get the list I have for you. Hope this helps.

are they gonna make any games that are cross platform online, like say cod mw 2 or something.

#1184020 by WandelDonor (Pirate) at 2009-09-19 22:47:14 (3 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I wouldn't count on it. I remember there was talk about Games for Windows Live being compatible with Xbox Live way back, but I don't think that ever happened. And 360 and PS3 online compatibility is never happening.

Shadowrun can be played cross-platform, but I cannot say if there are any other games. I'd honestly doubt if they make any more games. The coding can't be easy and PC gamers have a huge advantage with macros/mouse support.

I can understand pc, but ps3 and xbox should be able to play with each other it would be nice

I'm pretty sure the coding is more different for 360 vs PS3, than 360 vs PC.

Plus you have competing companies with competing consoles and networks. It makes sense for them to have their own networks if they want complete control over all happenings therein. Cross-console play is not going to happen anytime soon, if ever.

New system update today but no word from Microsoft...

Seems "interesting" perhaps in a bad way?

*shrugs*

MS updates like this all the time before system updates. It happened before NXE, it happened before the update in August, it's no surprise it's happening again. Life as usual goes on.

I know this probably sounds like a stupid question but  I haven't been able to find a clear answer. Do I need a mod chip or a firmware update to play downloaded games. What is the best solution? Please help me Times are tough and little money to fork out for hundred dollar games :'-(

thanks rock.

Sounds problematic and I have the Benq drive. Long time since I've used dos, is it very difficult?Do I need the Xbox connected to my router? Will I be able to play games from the hard drive? I assume you have flashed your xbox.

you flash the 360's dvd drive with a hacked firmware (not the 36o itself). You shouldnt have a problem flashing a benq using jungleflasher via windows.

http://jungleflasher.net/files/JungleFlasher.pdf

Have a look through that guide. Should be straight foward.
