I was just wondering how I could find out if I can burn dual-layer for my X360? The only thing I know is that it can burn bluray.

It'd be odd if you couldn't burn DL-DVD if you can burn bluray. Whether or not it'll give you a good burn for playing... only way to find out is to try it

Glad you have a blu-ray burner....check you DVD-Writer manual (if you don't have it, check the manufacturer website)

Hello everyone, just checking... IXtreme 1.4 is still the most up to date firmware, innit?

Some questions here. I've searched the forums and haven't come up with much useful.

I'm probably selling my Wii and getting a 360 Premium very soon. Is it easy to flash a new 360 nowadays or will I have to change the DVD drive? What firmware do you recommend? Can I do it myself (I have the knowledge, don't know if I have the tools.) or will I have to pay someone to do it?

Also, one big concern is that I want to stream media to my HDTV. Streaming .mkv packed x264 is a very big deal for me. I have heard a lot of people say that this is not a problem, but haven't found a single easy solution. Are there any program that will make it EASY to stream HD video to the Xbox? An easy to use on-the-fly transcoder would be preferred. I don't want to be assed to convert the videos before I watch them. I'd be happy if the software could transcode/stream most other knows video formats too.

When I buy my 360 (premium), will I get a HDMI cable with it or will I have to buy it separately?

Another thing I use my Wii for is to watch photos, which it does superbly. I know that the Xbox do not have an SD-card reader, but can I for instance just put the SD card in the computer, share the photos and the Xbox will find them? Also, can the Xbox read photos from an USB-memory? (I assume it can.)

Thanks.

streaming and encoding on the fly with all the formats you are probably gonna need as well as x264 can be done with tversity I am sure.

you would need a fairly beefy pc to transcode 720p and 1080p so bear that in mind

#1049081 by Accatyyc (VIP) at 2008-12-01 20:49:52 (4 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I have an incredibly beefy PC so I'm fine. Also I'm mostly aiming for 720p. So TVersity can actually do all this? I'll check it out, thanks!

@Mikael912 :  ye, ixtreme 1.4(1) is the most up to date fimrware atm.

@Accatyyc : If you buy a premium from the shops today its highly likely that you will receive a liteon drive which is atm unflashable. You would have to spoof the drive with a different, flashable, drive which is more costly and would be difficult to do for your first flash. People will do it for you, not sure about the going rate though. If you did get a flashable drive though its not really that hard to do. Just make sure you read textbook's tutorial (google it) many times.

As said before, tversity will transcode your mkvs to play on your tv easily, a very nice app. You will also get a 360 with a hdmi slot in it.

The 360 can read and play photos pretty easily either from a usb stick or streamed from the computer.

If you have any more questions just ask

Thanks for the answers coptr. A few more questions - does buying a 360 Elite reduce the risk of getting a LiteOn drive? Also, is if I'm unlucky enough to get a LiteOn drive, can it still be modded with a modchip?

And sorry, I'm aware that I get a HDMI output, but does it include the actual HDMI cable, or do I have to buy that separately or get an elite for that?

I have also heard that people are having problems playing videos with TVersity with this new NXE dashboard, does this apply to many of you guys?

#1049139 by unknown[317538] at 2008-12-01 21:32:22 (4 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Well it won't make a difference about whether its an elite/premium/arcade, its about its manufacturing date. If it was manufactured before may 2008 then it wont be a liteon drive, but after this date 99% will be. You can still use a modchip but your chances of getting banned from xbl are increased significantly.
Elites come with HDMI cables, premiums dont. TVersity works fine with the NXE dashboard here, havent heard that many problems tbh.

Doesn't really matter if you intend to play online as in multi player or just single player logged onto Live for achievements.

Your console will upload any "bad" (improper stealth games etc.) info as soon as you connect to Live and then the 360 MIGHT get flagged for the next round of bans.

Only way to remain unbanned is to unplug your 360 and NEVER go online again....I know, paradox

So in short yes you can play your backup games online and yes you will probably get banned eventually.

If Live is important to you don't use a modified 360 or just keep two of them. One modified for backup games and another "clean" for the original games you buy and multi player.

If you choose to play your "backup" games online then use common sense.

1. Don't play before official store release dates. I know some people play store bought games before official release dates on unmodified consoles but fact is that no one but M$ knows what "flags" a 360 so it might be the release date combined with something else.

2. Don't jump on games just as they are released as some might not be properly stealthed. Just look at the COD5 release which received a Kreon fix shortly after the game was released. There are always people out there who don't care out being banned and who play the games just as they are released. Look towards these people for info (TB forums and torrent comments for the release etc.)

3. Don't play games if you know for a fact that they are developer or review editions even though people say such copies won't play on standard consoles.

Obey these three rules and you MIGHT prolong your Live experience.

My advice is to stop worrying about being banned as it's probably gonna happen sooner or later and just use common sense and enjoy it while you can.

I'm reminded of Private Blithe in Band of Brothers who is told that he can't function as a proper soldier untill he realizes that he's eventually going to die.

The same applies to a flashed console and Live! :-D

You can't enjoy Live on a flashed Xbox 360 before you realize that you're eventually gonna get banned so just suck it up and enjoy!! :-D

Of course Live is important. You need to download new updates so that new games will run. I don't have Live Gold and don't play online, yet I have to log on to Live to get the necessary updates.

Btw: I wouldn't update now until a iXtreme1.5 is released...

Im waiting for 1.5 and the Phillips/Lite-On drive to be hacked, the team hacking it says it'll be released before x-mas (hopefully !!!!!)

Games will run without updates just as games on your PC will. If it's not connected to the internet it won't promt you to update and if it does just press "yes" and it should start the game no matter what. No one would release a game that wasn't able to at least start. Sure the fixes are nice to have but by no means essential.

Sometimes updates are even included on the disc itself.

I so no reason not to update to iXtreme 1.4 unless you have some inside info that confirms that the latest bans are related directly towards the firmware itself which is unlikely since most flashed consoles would have been banned by now.

Besides I doubt that the 1.5 release will provide anything new towards additional protection. Changes are most likely gonna be concentrated towards spoofing and Lite-on flash capability.l
