Could someone please help me?

I had a xbox360 but it got the RROD, so i bought a new one (was going to anyway because i wanted a hdmi output)

But it had a liteon drive, so i paid someone to swap the drives from the old one and the lite-on
only to find out the old one (a samsung) was slowly dieing. I keep getting cant read disc errors :grumpy:

I can buy a brand new samsung drive from a trustworthy shop, but i dont feel like going to the first guy who swapped the drives and paying him again.. He was kind of an asshole being late and all.. and just not very nice ;-)

So could someone like me spoof the new drive himself?
or would it be best to find somebody who will do it for me?

If yes i would need a step by step guide on it because i dont feel very comfortable on it..

Considering buying a 360 Elite bundle with Fable 2 and Fallout 3 (pre) but really need a bit of info first so thought I'd ask you lot.

Will it be possible to chip/mod it so I can d/l games from TB, and if so,what will be the consequences? (Just the inability to play online or other problems?)

Any way to use one or all of my 4 PC Hdd's  as storage?

Anything else I should know before I fork out my hard earned cash?

you can mod any 360 you will get, you will most likely get a liteon drive that has to be replaced in order to do the firmware hack, there are tutorials all over the place for that.

you can play online no problem, but its best to use properly stealth patched (most group releases are patched fine) but on the 19 of november when we get the big dashboard update many of us with modded machines could get our consoles banned from xbox live, although this is still just speculation and no one might get banned, waiting until the 19th of next month may be an idea for you before you get it modded, fable 2 and fallout should keep ya happy until then

Is the firmware located on the hard drive or on the Xbox 360 Motherboard?

Neither, the firmware you are modifying is for the dvd drive.

So  in theory then. Can you use a dvd drive, mod it, play copied games and when I want to go to xbox live re insert the original dvd drive?

For a little bit more (for the truly paranoid) you can just buy 2 consoles and just swap the harddrive.  Remember the machine is what is banned not your live account nor the harddrive.

I just installed the new dashboard and its actually really good looking. Only feature im interested in tho is installing games to the hard drive. Only games i will install are the noisy ones like GTA 4 and Fable 2 but nevertheless the new dashboard still looks nice

edit: installed GTA 4 and wow its finally quiet when playing, no more sounds of the disk being tortured when driving around or anything

How did you install the new dashboard?

Apparently someone leaked the install files for the NXE on the internet and it is now available for all to try out. Now just to let you all know, YOU CAN NOT CONNECT ONLINE WITH IT TILL NOVEMBER 19th, it will not allow you, so if you plan to game, do not use this. Also there is no guarantee that Microsoft will not ban your console or get angry at you, so USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Ah ok. Then I'll just wait.

I was tempted to stick on the new dash, even though I am confident I am getting banned on the 19th I still didn't wanna add to my chances hehe

and I have to abuse live as much as I can before bill gates takes his ball home :lol:

heard nothing but good things about it tho, the load times are noticeably faster apparently, anyone here notice any load time improvements ?

#1031904 by unknown[66354] at 2008-11-05 22:19:11 (4 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

i havnt noticed any load time improvements tbh even when games are installed on the hard drive

been reading up a bit on xbox scene forums

These are some install sizes, smaller than the actual iso in many cases so thankfully its not having to install the crap that's not needed

Oblivion install = 5.84 GB
Far Cry 2 = 4.5 GB
Rock Band 2 = 6.3 GB

Load times

Prey - New Game - Crash Landing

DVD = 40 Seconds
HDD = 27 Seconds

PGR 3

DVD = 20 seconds
HDD = 11 Seconds

Orange Box
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=hdGIJgh_S5Q

COD4
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7My-Li-MR9I

Oblivion
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=oLBA1WTVI … re=related

Bad Company
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=lkjEOD6pE … re=related

So far it looks promising :yes:

No one could complain at faster load times surely, plus according to some reports games are actually running smoother, like less stuttering with fallout 3.

nope, you are stuck with it until the 19th, find another xvid player until then.

Ok getting a 360 tomorrow... mum's getting it for xmas - aint I a lucky boy

Anyway, ive never followed the 360 closely at all and I dont fancy reading through 30 odd-pages and 100 topics. What should be the first things I do? Any valuable hints/tips? How much, and how easy is it to get it 'chipped' so I can download the ISO's? Are there any ways that will not void warranty?

I love racing games and FPS. Not had a console in a while but im open to genre's... What are some "must have" games for the 360 that are not available on PC?

Is Live really as good as it's made out to be? People seem to rave all over it, but it's it just a fancy term for online play? Something that should be free? Hence the whole Gold membership thing being a bit of a rip-off? Already got the wifi adapter too (free gift from MS for doing their courses)

edit: ohh... Im getting a £170 deal with the 60GB and free game...problem is the current deals @ Game etc are kinda shit... Any idea if their policy allows me to return the 'free game' next week if theres a better one in the £170 deal and exchange for that instead?

You will most likely get a liteon drive in the 360, this drive cant be modded yet, however there is a method of playing backups, this is basically buying a second none liteon 360 drive and spoofing it to look like a liteon drive and then you can mod it no problem, your local area most likely has a modder or shop that does the modding for you if you don't want to get your hands dirty, odds are tho you can get backups working on any 360 but the most pain is the one with the liteon drive because it has to be replaced.

Forza 2 is a superb racing game its currently the best sim style racer on any console and probably pc too, Project Gotham 3 and 4 are both excellent racers too but are a little bit more on the arcade side than forza, great games tho.
Fable 2 I am sure you will enjoy even if its just for a few days, Fight Night Round 3 is a truely superb boxing game and that's one of those "must play" games for console imo, if you can get into it you will never look back.
Gears of War 1 and 2 are both great shooters imo, gears 1 is out on pc now tho but gears 2 is still an exclsuive to 360.

When it comes to games on the 360 I say the priority is getting the machine modded, then you can just grab pretty much all the games for next to nothing, there are loads of games I am sure are worth playing that I have simply forgot about.

Live is superb yes, it makes finding games, matchmaking pretty much seamless and as simple as possible, it works very well on whole and is pretty much rock solid, almost all games have leaderboards for global and friends etc etc, overall live is very good imo and well worth paying for.

I have no idea

I flashed my Hitachi drive aaages ago and havent been online in almost as long. Itll need updated (I wasnt banned) but I remember reading a while ago that flashed Hitachi drives can still be detected. Is that still correct? Any suggestions which firmware I should be flashing with when I do update? Ta

#1033059 by Aterlatus (VIP) at 2008-11-07 23:14:03 (4 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Flash it with ixtreme 1.4, although 1.5 is due out soon so obviously if that's out by then go for the update

I can't recall any time where Hitachis were 'more detectable' than sammy and friends, but I do recall reading about when backups created using a hitachi (IE, original in the xbox hitachi drive) weren't ripping the stealth data properly.
