game updates are fixes for games or there are dashboard updates no update can alter a firmware mod on a drive updating is fine

just bought a 360 yesterday, it had a BenQ VAD6038. Flashed it with iPrep & iXtreme 1.41, havnt tested it though. Have no DL disks to burn gta4 !! :weep:

Any objections on iXtreme 1.41 ?

I've got a 2.5" external HDD and want to format so that I can use it with my X360 (FAT32).

However I was wondering if the X360 can cope with a HDD that has both NTFS and FAT32 file systems?

If I formatted half the drive NTFS and the other half FAT32, would my X360 be able to read the FAT32 partition and ignore the NTFS one?

1.41 is the newest version, so no objections here.

Make sure you buy quality DL discs i.e. Verbatim.

That should be alright, otherwise you can install macdrive on ur pc and format the disc as hfs+, which can be read by the xbox and no 4gb file limitations.

Cool, I'll give it a go and tell you guys what happens.

On another note has anyone tried playing Xvid coded files on their X360? Like a TV ep (downloaded from tB) or something? I keep getting an error saying that I need to update my dash. However I believe I have the latest version. I was trying to play files from a FAT32 formatted flash drive. This is probably a silly question, but I just want to make sure...

you need to download the codecs from XBL in order for the xvids to work, don't know if its still the case that you need to be signed in to XBL to play xvids still

You need to download the xvid codec from xbox live, and it will only work on the xbox you download it on.

i found the Xbox 360 for a good price and i wanted to ask the following:
- does the 256MB version cause a lot of limition?! why would i need space on the xbox 360 in the first place other than storing demos/movies?!

- can i overcome this problem later with upgrading the xbox hard drive?! or connecting a 8GB USB flash memory or something?!

- it seems like the 256MB version doesn't have HDMI output, will there be a realizable difference in the graphics quality?!

- do i need to perform hardware hacks to enjoy downloaded games?! is there any unhackable version of the xbox 360?!

the hard drive is mainly used for demos, game content such as downloadable maps etc, unless your going to use live a 256mb memory card is fine and you would need the hard drive to upgrade later, a flash drive wont work

hardware hacks are overhyped do a simple software/firmware flash on the dvd drive and your good to go, all 360's are moddable but the 1 drive to avoid is the hitachi 79

all latest 360's ive seen manufacture aftered sep 07 all have hdmi whether there a arcade/premium/elite

So I get my replacement 360, take the back off, prepare my usb stick with Iextreme 1.4 (iprep) and boot the pc with usb stick, got to the part where you need to power the drive off and on etc etc and the drive died, when I booted the 360 up the open/close tray flashing light on the 360 just kept flashing and the drawer wouldn't open or close

I am pretty sure I didn't do a damn thing wrong hehe

So I took the xbox back to the store and shit myself for about 10 mins while the guy in the store was on the phone to microsoft, thankfully he checked everything on the console except the warranty sticker.

So I got my money back (they didn't have any replacements in stock) and walked into PC world and bought another one.

Before I try and flash the drive again I was wondering if anyone knew if the drive problem I had is caused by something obvious I might have missed ?

If I kill this drive and have to return it to PC world I might not get lucky and they may check the warranty sticker and that would be a mini nightmare so I wanna make sure I am reducing the chances of failure as much as possible.

any tips ?

also is there a diy power connector guide anywhere ? I got loads of cables and a spare 360 drive power cable so I would be interested in hopefully making my own power connector so I dont have to power the drive off the 360 while flashing (does this pose any extra risks of damage to the drive ?)

cheers

dave

you may have shorted the drive either by not grounding the 360 properly or simply a bad flash even when reading the firmware there can be a problem and it results in a bad flash

as for flashing your drive with a power connector i wouldnt bother, i bought one as i get drives through the post to flash and it can be tiresome taking apart my 360 to flash the drive

the adapter i bought is the connectivity kit v2, it has the eject button and modeb button for hitachis

to basically make sure it doesnt happen again, check your cables dont have the 360 case to close to the pc case a good 10cm at least, going from what you wrote i take it you got a benq drive in the first 360

benq's are slightly different to samsungs although it's the exact same method only benq's have to be erased before a flash if your using iprep anyway it's all done for you and explains it all

hope this helps

ok i am getting an xbox 360 halo 3 special edition within this week "hopefully", the ordering is done, but waiting for a friend to come home with it. Decided to delay the PS3 a bit as i thought BUYING the GAMES part through and it didn't go well with me.

Anyway, i am very new to this and its getting more confusing as it seems. I want to know the following so that i am sure what i am getting exactly.

-1- what kind of banning does microsoft do?!
-2- Is the hacking discoverable if i succeeded to flash my drive by any means?!
-3- is it possible to enjoy playing the game OFFLINE without flashing?!
-4- Why is it in the INFO of some games not to play the game ONLINE before a week?!
-5- What is the MAIN difference between the SILVER Live account and the GOLD liver account?! I mean, what will i be missing deep from the heart?!
-6- Is there something else i should ask about?!
-7- Where can i get downloadable games, DATED ones?! And how can i make sure it is properly patched?!
-8- Where can i buy flashable drives from?! pre-flashed may be if available.

Thanks

EDITED:
Also, what kind of game is as enjoyable as mario "the italian Wii guy" and ratchet "the heavy armed PS3 fox guy" on the XBOX

From what ive read if microsoft catch you withl flashed firmware u get banned until the year 9999 or something but with ixtreme 1.41 chances of that happening are slim as long as you have properly patched games which we get here at TB as ive bin playing online for a few weeks now with flashed firmware and everything is still just fine. Playing games offline is good because there are a lot of decent games out atm but you really do want to play them online to get the proper experience. With silver you can download demos from the marketplace etc but cant play the games online with other ppl over live as that requires a gold membership so as you see its a pretty major difference. As for your 6th question only thing you need to no is find out what drive you have in ur 360,flash it and then enjoy :-) Only bad thing bout getting a 360 at this stage is if you plan to buy games, as it cud get expensive with so many good games out there now. Ive downloaded 13 games alone in the few weeks i flashed my 360 so as you can see it cud work out expensive

Ok, what kind of banning?! account ban so that i need to create another one, OR console banning so that i need to buy a new one?!

Ok, can i play OFFLINE any properly patched game WITHOUT a hacked console/firmware?! or i need to do the hack anyway either online/offline?!

well this link http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/memberships/?WT.svl=nav says that SILVER account can JOIN MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER GAMES, while GOLD got GREAT ONLINE MULTIPLAYER GAMEPLAY, so, my question really is, is there a difference?! BOTH statements look VERY similar to me !!!

Well, i was originally getting a PS3 "ready with the money and everything" but just had the thought and heard a very good price/offer/bundle for the XBOX and wanted to play games FOR FREE, so i said PS3 can wait a bit, XBOX can't "with such an offer IMO, as we get stuff in here taxed and customed"

Also, i am from the few in egypt to have an Xbox, all here got PS3, so it is a risky decision at some point as there is NO KNOWN local support for hacking and stuff.

And my forth question wasn't answered i am afraid, which was:
-4- Why is it in the INFO of some games not to play the game ONLINE before a week?!

q.1. console ban

q.2 yes you can play offline

q.3. i think silver limits you to demos..not 100% sure

q.4  kinda common sense...if you're seen online playing the game before its officially out you will be banned...patched or not...

#947447 by unknown[66354] at 2008-05-25 02:12:16 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Your console will get banned so you can still play offline just cant use live. If you wanna play cracked games u gotta flash ur firmware whether u wanna play them of or online. Taken from that same link "MMO games will come with their own subscription plan, so even if you’re not a full-fledged Xbox Live Gold member you’ll be able to participate in this growing phenomenon." So that means MMOs  require u to pay for them separately whether u are gold member or not but regular 360 games require gold membership to play online. We're all the support you need for hacking etc so having lack of it in egypt prolly isnt an issue. I didnt answer your 4th question because i dont actually understand what you mean :-)

I know that, but the question was, will an UNHACKED console enable me to play offline a properly patched game?!

Quote:

Oh, it didn't occur to me that games are hacked before they are released. But even if they are hacked the 1st or 2nd day, i think i shouldn't play it online unless some time passes by not to be spotted easily and turn to be an easy target, that's actually common sense, but never thought it through within this direction.

ok, i got the xbox today, too excited .. so happy:

facts:
[1] not a falcon version, 203W power supply
[2] production date 4/8/2007
[3] dvd-rom drive hitachi lg gdr-3120L >> which is good news, right?!
[4] controller + menu are very distinguished compared to the PS3's

Questions:
[1] i want a decent guide, found a lot of guide, video guides, step by step guides, but at some point they use different flashing tools and different precautions .. etc., what is the best way to flash the drive?!

[2] the freaking thing sound like my wife's hair dryer, but i guess when you are in the game you just don't care about OR hear the noise, but for a media center, i guess, but for a media center/player, i want to reduce the noise, is there a way/tools/trick for that?!

[3] should i worry about the RROD?! is there something that i should do to avoid such experience?!

Finally, this is DeMagH from a friend's PC as i forgot to pay my monthly ADSL fees two days ago

I believe you have to solder a chip in order to be able to flash it.

xbox scene forums has a section where people offer there modding services so perhaps you could check there and find someone local that does them ?

I know one guy who does them (not sure how much tho) in the north east.
