yes, you want a console that was shipped after September. Or the halo 3 version.

Thanks Gilbert64.
Btw, The Ad says it's about 6 months old and he still has all the original packaging.

Also, if it states on the box or on the console that the power supply is 175w, then does that confirm that this particular Elite has the Falcon chip?  I haven't asked him yet but I said I'll phone back with some questions.

175W on box = Falcon for sure.

However, 203W on box doesnt mean t hat it is not a falcon.  There are many that were in the transitional stage (like mine) that have a 203W sticker on the box, but a 175W power brick inside.  In these cases, you just have to check the brick.

You might also want to try and get a BenQ drive.  Quieter, and much easier to hack.

Thanks Tjafasn and I forgot about the drive thing.  I found a link to the three different drive makes.

I recall there was some proggy to check if the games have been properly stealth patched.
Can anyone remind me?

I just got new elite and i'm in between if i should or shouldn't flash my box as i would like to enjoy the
capabilities of Live as well. On one hand i have no problems buying games, but on the other hand i am so damn impatient to try out the stuff as fast i can, unfortunately the location where i am isn't helping

The samsung is an older drive, so on the newer ones you are basically getting a benq or hitachi.

XDVD Mulleter

You can enjoy live with a flashed drive if your games are properly patched.  Interestingly, the newer iXtreme wont even load the game if it hasnt been patched correctly.  If you are really worried though, you can just play with your originals since you have no problems buying games.

Phew, that was nerve racking, just finished flashing my 360 with the ixtreme firmware.

If you are thinking about buying a 360

and you're wondering if you need to look out for anything in particular so that you can modify it to play back ups, the short answer is no.

There are a few different versions of the 360, and a few different revisions of each version. The newest consoles have a "falcon" chipset. The easiest way to tell if a 360 has the falcon chipset is by looking at the power supply wattage. If it is a 175w psu, then it will definately have the falcon chipset. If it is a 203w psu, it may still have a falcon chipset. Either way, all xbox 360's on the market are flashable.

The 360 ships with the possibility of having one of three dvd drives. To my knowledge there is no way to tell what one you are going to get. All three have there advantages and disadvantages, and will require a specific (but not limited to one) sata chipset on the pc that will be performing the flash to be able to flash the drive. For example, I got my 360 with a benQ drive, which requires a sata controller with a via or nforce chipset. Luckily the onboard sata controller on my mobo had a via chipset which recognised the benQ drive. However, if you don't have access to a pc with a compatible chipset, you can always buy a pci card that is compatible. Frequent flashers recommend the VIA VT6421A for benq drives.

I won't get into technical details about opening the xbox 360 and flashing the drive, as there are plenty of tutorials about.
But basically, you open the case, plug the dvd drive into the compatible sata controller of a pc and run a utility from dos via a bootable usb drive (or whatever you want to boot from). From there it's a matter of following instructions carefully.

How do I get sound with the official Xbox 360 VGA HD cable? I have tried for hours and I found only one way to get sound and that way just sucks. I put the red and white cable into the thing, then I but it in my speaker audio input. That way I can get sound, but I can't control it and it's very loud. I tried using the mic and line in inputs also, but I still don't get any sound. I have Creative inspire 2.1 speakers.

Your link doesn't work, but if I think im right, that one is shipped with the cable.

Your best bet would be using digital out, but you have something that can recieve it

Anyone got any experience with using the VGA and GTA4 or just games general?

How will it handle if i put it in 1280x1024(My monitor's native resolution)? Will it add black bars to the edges? Or will it try to stretch the image? Or will it completely alter resolution?

Edit: Btw, how does updates for the arcade work? Since it doesn't have any harddrive space, is it some kind of flash memory that's inbuilt?

the updates are stored inside the console.

if you don't have a memory card or a hard drive I am certain you can still update.

its possible to update via a game disc but not via live as you would need a profile

you can also update by hooking up a friends/relatives 360 hard drive if there updated.

when they take there hard drive back you will still be updated, done that for a buddy a few times now.

Those 20 GB xbox 360 hard drives.....If you pulled apart the caddy holding the hdd, could you replace the hdd with a 2.5" notebook drive and then format it using the Xbox360 dashboard?

nope you need to use a scorpio drive then copy your original hd via a pc with a special tool and format your new hard drive as a copy as they contain a key and you'd need to get a hold of the 20gb version or the 120gb and there pretty hard to come by anything bigger or smaller may not work or will be noticable by xbox live resulting in a ban as you've modified there hardware

I see, well that plan goes out the window. Thanks.

Edit:
If i bought a used 120gb hdd from an xbox360 that was banned from Live, would that affect me going on live?
