like ando said, no benefit to a chip, other than the fact that it costs more money.

And the statement you made above doesnt really make sense because as long as you are playing with stealthed games they cannot yet detect you.  Even if one day you eventually did get banned, it wouldnt make a difference to your offline play.  Just letting you know, as most people who have a 360 will tell you that live is one of the greatest things ever.

I need some advice;

1. buy a xbox360 and dont flash it (just to be safe on xbox live, (dont think i will play that much online anyway, but i would like the free songs for guitar hero etc. maybe buy one or two songs.) im aiming at getting rock band)

2. Buy a xbox360 and flash it myself and therefor risking getting banned on live, and no RROD replacement warranty.

3. Pay 100€ extra for a flashed xbox with 1 year warranty.

what would you do?
and how important is live? (i only played at a friends house, and i think it was nice to download some demos and stuff (well wont be neccecery if flashed)

please give me advice Thanks"

personally i dont think theres anything better than doing something yourself invest into the right hardware and your set to go

all tools and guides are freely available it all depends on whether your upto the job and RROD fixing is a piece of cake these days and all newer consoles rarely suffer from it

as for 3. Pay 100€ extra for a flashed xbox with 1 year warranty.

whats to say the company you buy from doesnt disappear in a few months down the line then your stuck high and dry with a warranty what means jack!

#923438 by tijafasn (Power User) at 2008-03-31 18:36:27 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I would say to do it yourself.  Assuming you know a little bit about computers and dont mind learning a thing or two.

If you dont want to, try and find somebody locally who knows how to flash.  They can do it for you in like 5 minutes.  My local guy charged me $20, so I didnt even bother doing it myself.  This is probably your best option if you dont want to get your hands dirty.

RROD is something we all have to deal with.  Just consider all the money that you save on games with a flashed system.  Download 3-4 games, and you have already saved enough to cover the cost of a new system even if yours were to explode.  RROD is not very difficult to fix, and there are many people who would take a RROD 360 off your hands for like $100.  Put that toward a new system as well.  Rinse and repeat.

yeah it really looks like im going to fix a flashed one because the games are too expensive.

but how important is live to the gaming?
is flash > live ?

and how do you get banned from live? is it the burnt game, or the firmware?

thanks for your replies, and if i want a flashed one i will do it myself. Cant be that hard since i have some computer hardware experience and psone experience :p

EDIT: is it hard to open a newer xbox?

All 360's are the same to open.  Impossible if you dont read a tutorial.  Easy if you do.

Live is really, really fun.   It takes the 360 (and gaming in general) to another level.  You get banned if you dont have games that are properly patched/stealthed.  Stealthed games are undetectable to MS (for now, at least).  Either way, who cares if  you get banned one day?  All that happens is no more live.  Everything else is fine.

EDIT:  btw, basically any game you download (especially scene releases) are pre-patched and ready to go.  Its not really a big deal.   Worrying about non-patched games is usually for people who rip/copy them themselves.  Besides, the new firmwares wont even boot the game unless its patched correctly...sort of keeping an eye out for you.

Here is a good tutorial for opening your case. http://www.zshare.net/video/5452976fa67f13/

There are a lot of different tutorials on how to flash your drive, but it depends on which dvd-drive you have.

#923806 by CusmaR (Power User) at 2008-04-01 10:38:31 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Is it hard to flash the different drives? (ive saw a company that offered flashing, but depending on the dvd-rom it was less/more expensive)

Just hope you dont get a hitachi.  Buy it from somewhere that allows you to return it even f its opened.  That was you can swap it for one with a benq drive.

Or, go here and learn how to make an educated guess without opening the box:
http://www.360drives.com/list
btw, all the lot#'s and team and man. date can be found on the outside of the box and throught the little window on the box.

EDIT:  This was the best tutorial I found when I had to open mine:

Rumor: 360 Version Of Wii Remote Has Been In Development Since Summer
>> From mtv.com:

If everything goes according to plan, Microsoft's response to Nintendo's Wii will appear before the end of the year, a developer who has been briefed on the project told MTV News. The Xbox 360 manufacturer has been working on its own version of the motion-controlled Wii remote since last summer, the developer said.

While nothing has been officially announced, MTV News' source was able to provide us with details on one such 360 controller in the making: a controller designed to do all the Wii remote does, and more. Our source chose to remain anonymous in the interest of not compromising business relationships, but MTV News has confirmed Microsoft's active interest in developing a motion-sensitive controller with other industry sources.

The project has been in active development at Microsoft since last August, the source said. Rare, the Microsoft-owned studio behind Xbox 360's launch first-person shooter "Perfect Dark Zero" and the upcoming installment of the "Banjo-Kazooie" franchise, has been tasked with creating a unified interface and look for the controller. Rare has had trouble hitting its deadlines, according to the source.

Our development source sketched out a reproduction of the last prototype he'd seen, although the final product -- if it is indeed released -- may vary from this design. A key difference between the Wii remote and the prototype is the lack of a companion controller to be placed in the other hand, like Wii's Nunchuck.

Rare's difficulty in hitting development milestones has produced problems, however. "Microsoft is trying to decide how to get something out by the end of the year," said MTV News' source.

Just got back a repaired xbox 360 from the shop after mine got RROD'd.

I took off the face plate and found a paper seal rather than the silver/chrome MS seal. Anyone else seen these?

Links would be nice, thanks.

EDiT: I messed up.

its just a different type of warranty sticker

I'm thinking about buying a used Xbox360  Elite that's for sale in my local classifieds.

What I would just like to know first is, does it matter when an Elite was manufactured or do all the Elites have the Falcon chip?

thanks.
