i recenty got a 20" WS monitor (new samsung 206BW),
and im planning on getting the 360 when halo 3 is out (or when ever theres a price drop on the console).
(btw im not just getting the 360 for halo 3, will also get saints row also completed done halo 2, will have to poke around for other games that i like the look of but halo 3 multiplayer looks sweet)

anyway, does anyone here use a 20" or 22" WS Mointor with there 360?

if so does the pictures looked screwed in anyway? as the rez the 360 gives out isnt 1680x1050 and isnt even 16:10, which is what my monitor gets from my pc.

btw what is the rez that the 360 gives to a 20" or 22" WS Monitor? 1024x768 or 1280x1024?

could someone please eather show some pictures of there monitor or tell me with detail what its like on the monitor or even both.

thanks.

also is it true that u can hook up an external harddrive via USB (ones u can get for pc) and be able to view .avi files from it?

@starwarseye

Component supports 480p, 720p and 1080i

VGA supports 640×480, 848×480, 1024×768, 1280×720, 1280×768, 1280×1024, 1360×768, and 1920×1080.

The pic will look great, even if you have a 16:10 monitor. Going for a 1:1 pixel mapping is better though, but the difference is insignificant. Your pic will be slightly stretched vertically with that aspect ratio.

You can hook up a external HD, however the supported video formats are currently only wmv and h.264 (Spring update 2007)

@1doLLar

Flash it, chips are just no use.

@jbravouk

The xbox will ask if you want to update, if you don't update you can't connect to live but the flash will not be a problem since the updates only updates the motherboards "OS" and not the firmware in the dvd-rom.

I am a little confused about the newly released firmwares for the Xbox 360.
I know that these releases exist:

  • #1 -- Xtreme_Firmware_v5.3_for_Samsung_Official_XBOX360-SYNDiCATE
  • #2 -- C4EVA_XTRM-HITACHI_v2_4_Stealth
  • #3 -- Firmware.Toolbox.v3.1.inc.Garyopa.Disc.Jitter.Check.Hitachi.Xtreme.v1.7.for.79.Drives-Thanks
  • #4 -- Maximus - Firmware Toolbox v3.1b - Repack (with C4EGaryopa Hitachi 1.7)
    (360FW-Toolbox-31B-Repack)

I want to flash my Hitachi 59D (currently XTRM v2.3) drive so I assumed that I must use #2:

    <C4EVA_XTRM-HITACHI_v2_4_Stealth

    ...............

(2.4) Added Disc-Jitter for Challenge types 5/7 to all Hitach firmwares.

    ...............

    * ALL NEW XTREME V2.3 FIRMWARE FOR ALL BUILDS OF THE HITACHI DRIVES!

       - Now includes "Security Sector Extraction" for all Hitachi Drives

       - Included media detection 2 from Geremia and Maximus Firmware
Stealth, this release just supports SS Extraction within Windows
without the need to re-flash your drive back and forth between
         PLAY & RIP!

    But then I found #4.
In #4, they talk about Hitachi Xtreme 1.7, what the hell is v1.7 ?

It's the Halo 2 banning all over again, we all knew it was comming.

Well here is some advice.  Don't play burned games online and definitely DO NOT play Halo 3 beta with a burned copy of crackdown.  If there is anything Microsoft will be watching it is the beta.

I'm going to play it safe and never keep a game in the drive and to make sure the ethernet cable is unplugged if I'm going to play a burned game.

Not a big deal to me other than some R6 vegas I never played burned games online and seeing as I'm sick of the FPS genre as it is other than like Halo 3 I don't see myself getting another game I would play online.

did 360's that were flashed with the newest firmware get banned also?

    #813328 by Sammm (Power User) at 2007-05-18 12:04:34 (6 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Yes, the 5.3 Samsungs and the 2.4 Hitachi's are getting banned.
So I've you haven't downloaded the Spring update, think twice ;-) AKA Do NOT download it.

People that haven't done the Spring Update have got banned too, they receive the same error codes but lack the whole banned error message that covers the whole screen.

can someone pls tell me , how to make my xbox play backups ?

which mod should i buy ?
    a chip ? (i hate soldering)
xecuter 360 or xeno 360 addon type ? (only sata cable plugins)
a usb sata connector for pc<-> xbox ?

and is there a way to make my xbox play backups and stays "original" to play xblive and maybe stay in the guarantee (if RRoD appears) ?
like a switch to change original firmware to hacked one

i searched a lot on the web , but did not found anything.
so if someone has a page (preferably in german) , pls feel free to post it.

    thx in advance

Better to buy non hdmi version for easier firmware modding?
I heard hdmi versions are with Benq driver, which is not easy to hack and you need solder it to get firware changed?
Tho hdmi-version would be nice with a 40 inch LCD TV.

This bitsetting/booktype business. In theory couldn't you set your DVDR to read as a DVDROM and play and X360 backup game without having to flash your X360's firmware?

    #836375 by unknown[88565] at 2007-09-22 12:52:17 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

thats not the way it works

the firmware mod applies hacked code to the dvd drive firmware allowing backups to boot

I thought bitsetting/booktype was only related to your actual disc. It has nothing to do with the drive's firmware.

So my theory is that you can take a regular dual layer DVD-R and then bitset/booktype it so that it reads as a regular (perhaps legit) DVD-ROM, when you burn the disc. That way perhaps your X360 will read the disc as a legit DVD-ROM not a DVD-R or DVD+R.

Is it possible? Also which hacked firmware is best to get right now? Sorry I'm a major X360 n00b.

You take out the xbox 360's dvd drive, plug it into your pc via a sata cable and flash a cracked firmware to that drive.

THEN the drive will trick the xbox360 into booting up ur bootlegged disk.

you WISH it could be possible as to be able to burn a authentic looking backup, however companies of course has many protection and countermeasures against that...

also, you need to burn on dvd+r dual layered disk, (not those old DVD5 +r and -r)

    xD

there's a torrent here that you can dl and it has all the files you need AND a video tutorial! perfect for noobies

It doesnt matter if its a dvd-rom.  The 360 doesnt give a shit.  Just because its a rom wont make it ok.  It has to appear to be a genuine xbox360 disc.

Just lost my 360 again.  Had not turned it on for a while, and when I did it said I needed to update.  Downloaded the update and the machine is now dead.  The guy from MS support says he's had quite a few die due to the update.  Regardless, they want me to pay $130 for repairs.  What a bunch of shit. Looks like I'll have to buy a new one (for the third time) swap the serial numbers around, and return the POS.  I've got 2 in the household, and 5 deaths between them. Two that were repaired under warranty, and this will be the 3rd time doing the return trick.  What a poor product.

    ^^
ah sorry to hear that mate
thats why I havent bought one yet..I live too far from the US so returning isnt a viable option for me if I should buy one and it dies...getting it modded down here also costs a pretty penny as well...I hoping that by next year with the 90 nm chips they are getting it will be more stable...

Yeah these things are breaking down a lot.  I am going to get my 4th 360 tomorrow in about 1 year and 6 months.  Luckily I bought the replacement plan with it so get a free console everytime.  I sympathize with those they didn't get a replacement plan, but then again, why not go somewhere where can get such a plan.  These things cost way too much to not pay another $60 to get a free replacement when they break down.  Any console can have these issues.  I really recommend this to anyone buying a 360.  Not getting one is like going to a whore house without a jimmy hat and hoping you don't catch something.  Good luck!
