It's abit hard to actually explain how it's more fun. But magine vanilla wow with actual world pvp that affects zones, world bosses and so on.
Classes are also a whole lot more fun. with about a shitload of different combinations since you can choose between 4 archetype classes and then 8 sub classes for each of those.

Actually I considered Rift more of a WoW clone with some Lineage 2 class and PvP elements that just failed to accomplish what actually make those 2 MMO's stand out, just my 2 cents tho.

I actually dare say it took all of the worst elements of WoW, Lineage 2 and Warhammer: Online and put them in a graphically pleasing package.

Boring collection quests, a open quest system that promotes that the strongest gets stronger and the weak are stuck grinding, a too complex talent system that allows for some stupidly OP combinations and a poor approach to mass-PVP.

Hey, I'm thinking of leveling up a shaman to try out healing in cataclysm (played resto druid then disc priest in BC and WotLK), how does it fare against other healing classes ?
And which would be the best spec to level up: elemental or enhancement ?

#1371217 by Snuffsis (Power User) at 2011-01-23 14:49:56 (2 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I enjoy leveling as elemental, but they're pretty equal, enhancement is better at soloing elite quests however when you get the wolves.

Comparing to other healers i'd like to think shamans are one of the best and funniest healing classes there are.

Anyone know about Alliance healing in Vanilla WoW? Played a Warrior back then and now I`m starting with some friends on a private server sporting the 1.12 patch. Not sure which char I`ll make, with no dual spec and gold being a bitch to make, I want it to be viable at other stuff as well. Anathema would be a big factor in me making a Priest, but I`m not so sure about Shadow. Tried to look it up but haven`t had much luck. Thoughts?

You get selected after like, 10 mins. Been selected as well, going to try this also, doubt that it will be that good, that I change from wow to this though.

I gave up wow. Need a change of environment and things to do outside raiding that isn't wow pvp.
WoW has changed to much to worse imo. WoW community has changed to much thanks to dungeon finder etc. WoW is now boring for me. WoW PvP nowadays is no more fun when everyone just plays it for epix.

My best WoW period and the period where I enjoyed the game the most was back in Vanilla.
Raiding was pure awesome with 40 man.
PVP was actually kickass.
Since there was no crossrealm stuff the community was very close and very active on the realm, you tend to know every active player whether it is on horde or alliance.

WoW nowadays is just to much based for the casuals, even though Blizzard made content harder now they are still nerfing the most silly stupid things for them. And now they recently announced they even to plan to add a new vendor where you can buy herbs, enchanting materials with justice points... seriously... wtf. Can they make the game even easier.

By saying that, it doesn't mean that I hate or discriminate casuals because nowadays I am  one of the casuals as well due to my working shedule but yet I very much dislike how Blizzard make all kinds of nerfs. Heroic 5 man for example was simply just fine at the release, yet now they are getting nerfed over and over because of casuals or noobs that don't know how to become a better player - the content has to become easier for them? bullshit.

With Rift - Been playing Beta 1 and Beta 3, now going for Beta 5 and onwards (VIP) and I can surely say farewell to WoW.
For me, Rift is THE WoW killer.
Rift has brought all the good elements of many other MMORPGS into their own game.
Sure nothing is new, but when something isn't broken, there is no need to fix - a mix of features is exactly what I've been looking for, for many years.

And before people moan that Rift is just a WoW clone, how many other MMORPG's have you played?
Obviously not as much as I do. I played "millions" of known and unknown MMORPG's such as Helbreath, Myth of Soma. And I can assure you that WoW has taken a lot of elements from other MMO's as well. And WoW was mostly based on EverQuest.

Can everyopne talking about leaving wow and other mmos get the fuck out of this thread? I for one don't give a rats arse if you been selected for "X"-beta mmo. Create a new thread for that. I'm tired of scrolling through endless of posts that has nothing to do about the thread subject.

Now.

Yeah, I played a druid in vanilla and did some healing, and it was actually quite fun. From what I remember, shadow was quite useless and certain classes was basically a one specc class (for example paladin). Although if I remember right shamans where in a pretty good position back then. Id go for eather shaman or druid tbh since then can both heal and do dps (or tank for that matter as well, after farming mc for a while I was tanking certain bosses as druid and it worked pretty good even though people laughed at it )

from what I gathered through various wow forums there's a good amount of people that really really thinks shaman healing is at the worst state of all the healing classes. A certain comment from the guild paragon basically said shamans are useless and that they don't bring any buffs or utility what so ever, and from the charts pve wise, it seems like paladins and priests are topping it and almost no shamans are in the world firsts (if you care about that).

here's a chart from methods world 2nd h sinestra kill, and it shows 2 shamans representing healing and dpsing and unfortunately both of them are at the very bottom. Now this doesn't apply to all gamers I suppose but should give some ideas on the class.

Leveling wise I'm not certain, havnt played a shaman in a very very very long time so I don't know.

Rofl no druid healing there?

As for my choice, druid is out of the question cause I hate that class. Shaman is out as well cause it`s Horde only, otherwise I would have rolled one. And since a friend is rolling a priest, I`ll roll a mage or a war, or both.

...and paladins always the first as usual, bah,  im surprised tho they didn't bring any druid at all

levelling a resto druid atm and that makes me worry :S

druids have some direct big heals (healing touch for example), though they are expensive mana wise, you spam a few of those and you're oom super fast, even with good amount of spirit

Paladin is getting the nerfbat.

TBH, healing as a paladin is fun as hell, can't imagine how horrible healing must be as a druid, gonna roll one soon as balance/resto , so soon I'll know

Every healer has big direct heals nowadays.

there are three basic heals that every healing class has
1. Big, expensive and slow heal
2. sortof big, expensive but fast heal
3. a moderate heal that is cheap, heals a little and is decent in speed.

the number 3 heals i basically the auto attack of healers that is always spammed. and the two others used in different situations, with a few of the class specific heals thrown in, like riptide and unleash elements.

Alliance healers from classic 1.12 patch.

I played a priest in vanilla, got to marshal rank in pvp and cleared aq40. I started as a healer during ZG/MC/BWL and it was extremely good, priest where the most versatile healer back then, only pally's would beat a priest for pure single target healing. Druids where a gimmick healer back then, fine for general raid healing but not really good at anything.

I played the standard hybrid spec back then, think it was 20/29/0 or something simillar, getting sprit buff in disc and then going down holy. you could sit there and spam greater heal rank 5 all day long, and at the end i was using gheal rank 6 and not going oom.

At the end of BWl, from firemaw onwards to the end of vanilla i raided as shadow. Yes everyone used to go lol shadow nub respec holy, but i was the 2nd best geared shadow priest on the server, i was my guilds 3rd highest dps after a mage and rogue, and i provided the mana battery for the healers. In pvp i could kill amost any class, warriors especially, and could 2 shot most if i crit. I loved it back then, and i reckon if your looking to play properly you'll get the gear to support these roles and have a good time too.

Good luck in vanilla, i miss it, but brutally honestly i prefer'd tbc a bit more
