You can still manage well without CC in heroics. I do daily HC with guild members every day.
We just run through it with aoe and chainpulls, just like in wotlk. Sure everyone is ilvl 361+ now but it was possible before aswell =), with maybe a little higher fail percentage.

What's the current state of death knights now? That goes for both tanking and dps. From what I read they changed the trees so blood is the tanking spec, when I played I thought it was frost?

With one and a half month left until I can start playing I'm starting to collect all the info about classes now and which ones would suit me the best, but Death Knight is one of those classes that I never really tried before.

How's the levelling? I really looking into soloing a lot of things, try to get the bindings from mc and so on and basically seeing old content again. With the massive hp gains at 85 what is possible to solo or possible duo with a warrior? Can one do the BC content. From what I understand some Black temple bosses are impossible to solo due to the design of the encounter but will two people be enough (i'm longing for those glavies

)

Then of course the pvp side of all. A simple glance on the forums is that frost mages are the overpowered class atm. What's the state of the DK, what specc is the best and so on.

As I said, I have no idea at all about the design of Dks (had a shot basically when they came out but was to into the paladin play style to like it), and even less now with the overhaul of the 31pt system and so on.

Any insight would be highly appreciated!

As DPS in PvE DK's are a bit overpowered atm. With dual-wield unholy being very very strong once geting epic geared. But the dps is geting nerfed next patch, a bit too much really. DK's did need a nerf but what they did was pushing a bit too far : ). We'll see how it goes

As for tanking, yes blood is tanking only now. It was the best tank spec in wotlk aswell, frost being better on some special encounters.

DK's are okey in pvp. They are very kite-able so to say

but good none the less. Best specc atm is Unholy with sub frost. But depending on what you are playing, frost specc is very good aswell.

What he said is correct. We're not particular good in PvP but we're still good enough due to pet stun, our silence, interrupt and necrotic strike which works very well. Though in Unholy our burst damage is bad, we just don't do any good crit at all compared to other classes, we keep NS'ing till they're low enough that you can try to stun/silence/interrupt the healer to get enough time to get the kill. In Frost we still do ok damage and a bit more "surprising" burst due to Obliterate, but you really want to use it only when it procs otherwise it's kinda a waste.

Next patch our attack power and several abilities will be reduced from 5 to 10% (for example in Unh -5% strength) AND Necrotic Strike will absorb about half the heal that's absorbing now (now about 7k, remove 30-40% from it due to people's resilience)...that's a big nerf to our damage in Uholy, but hard to say now since they also changed our mastery, it's way better next patch, so what we lose in direct strength and ability damage may be gained with mastery, we'll see. Also that movement buff is kinda crap since you want to be able to move when NS and SS are available, not when they're not.

thanks for the replys guys. Gave me some minor insight in the class. I've been thinking about a dk now, and watching some clips at youtube ect. the problems I had when I started one was the very essence of the class, the runic power thing. I never got my head around it how they scaled with attack power (or whatnot), but all of a sudden I could put out a large amount of dmg in one burst but then back to "meh" dmg, through diseases and regular attacks.

Surly the most be some updated guide or something how to play one properly with the rotations and everything. From what I read now, yeah they will have a nerf coming but it still will be very playable.

The content lvl 55-70? Have thiere been a xp increase there? I think I saw somewhere that 1-60 is pretty easy, what is the most efficient way of levelling? Solo or dungeons? I like the thing that I can tank (something i never done before though) as well, wich I guess could speed up the queue times in the LFG tool.

And leveling wise, what's the best specc? Can I take 2-3man quests on my own?

Well, seeing as my old cata main was a DK I'll answer:

Dualspec costs 10g, get it the first thing you do!

Then just work your way down. Crimson Scourge can be ignored. WotN should be maxed. Leave Scent of Blood at 2. The increase in runicpower generation from 2/3 -> 3/3 is not worth a talentpoint (check elitistjerks.com for the math) This is obviously your tank spec and 2-5 man questsolo build (atleast prepatch). You are pretty much immortal

How to tank:

AoE tanking: Drop DnD, spam heartstrike, collect loot. Spreading diseases is a dpsloss in pretty much everything pre cata instances. In Catainstances, open with DnD, 1-2 HeartStrikes, then spread diseases, use Outbreak when you get it! Also make sure you use DeathStrike, especially after you hit level 80 as it's a big part of your avoidance (mastery)

Bosstanking: DnD->Diseases->spam heartstrike->DeathStrike every 5-6 second.

Runetap should ALWAYS be on CD!!

Then pick Merciless Combat!
Buy the Howling Blast glyph the moment you hit 69 (or before to save time)

Use a 2-h (duh) and use Unholy Pressence. Open with Howling Blast, spam Obliterate and FrostStrike and make sure your BloodRunes are on CD!

Low on Health? Sac your ghoul, or save up 130 RunicPower proc Lichbourne, target yourself and spam Deathcoi for full health in 5 seconds.

58->68 is meh, get a highlevel guild to abuse the expbonus.
68->80 is 30% quicker, still boring in my opinion but should be a breeze.

Quest Quest Quest! Run a dungeon once when you have all the quests for it, though nowdays dungeons are slower than questing. Dungeonquests+dungeon exp is obviously better, but you can only do them once pre dungeon so...quest quest quest

If your side is good at AV queue up for that aswell, a win equals a shitload of exp for absolutely no effort.

Gear: Priority is: Str->Crit->Haste. When you hit 80 and start getting gear with mastery prioritize it before/after Crit. DPS wise it's better than Crit though because you will be killing mobs and not raiding/doing HCs you rather want burst crits for quick kills.

DKs aren't bad in PvP, they are actually the best class to duo with with a healer. The Frost DW burst damage and the Killing Machine procs for 100% crits are ridiculous. Unholy will be a bit better in PvP, but I prefer lower survivability with higher damage output, leaves alot more room to outplay a person entirely by skills.

So you are saying that it's more skill to have two dps, nuke one person down quickly and win the fight in 20seconds (or die if some cc isnt working right), than playing with a healer and meeting another dps/healer team and outskilling them in trying to find that little open mirror where you cc and burst perfectly and kill that other team. Which can take up to 40minutes sometimes if the other team is good aswell.

Oh and KhaS86B through my years on wow I've always used offgamers.com and never ever had I had any problems with it. All my friends have been using this and together we have been ordering around 200 000gold + powerleveling and even gamecards and expansions. I can recommend this site.

Let's just make it clear. I was thinking of posting Kpoofs armory profile. I had it messegde to me, and it's a laugh. But I see that it's very cruel to do so. He's trying to have this "I'm so good listen to me and my good advice" type of personality. And on this forum he can because you don't really know if that person is as good as he sais. Let's just say, your 2011 raid achivments such as killing Lich King 18/01/2011 (yes thats a few days ago, and yes it's on lvl 85) and your ulduar achivment (01/01/2011).
With your pvp experiane of over 500 matches in arena. Not yet having a single arena achivment (meaning not even being 1550 rating, which you get after loosing a million times and win a few.)
The worst player in wow will get to 1550 rating after playing lots and lots of games, and maybe luck out a few and win. This is the first arena achivment you get in rating. He has it not,500 games ftw?
Current rating 192.

Calling himself a pvp:er and pve:er I can see that his gearing is flawed and unechanted, ungemmed and spec choices that blows my mind.

It's you folks that decide if you wan't some actuall advice from this person or not. He may speak like hes talking sense, a new player won't notice that. But some people like me, playing since beta 2004, in top 25 world guild, and the actuall time to help a player out, sees these things and without any regrets corrects them.

Did a heroic yesterday and to my surprise a BoE epic dropped.

One of the members in the group said "Greed all"

And as stupid as I am I greeded and so did the three other party members.

We ended up without a healer which got away with a 20000g+ epic and GMs can't do anyhing about it.

It might be my own fault, but I'm never greeding on an epic again, especially with the current dungeon system.

For pvp as a dk with what Xiggiduna said, what will be the "easiest" comp in 2s or 3s to play. Will dual dps (+healer) be the cookie cutter comp? Not for the survivability, but for the control! Unholy is better. Frost works thx to their burst.

And what is the dps rotation for unholy/frost dks and how does it work with runes? Should I wait till all is up to make the attack or have 3-4 up and then press the dmg abilitys? Also would I benefit more of having a tanking specc when I level and AoE packs down? (if theres such a way?)

Tanking spec for leveling? Na. When you hit 80 mobs get more health, singletarget things down is safer, plus it prepares you better for engame.

Only rogues and feraldruids have a set rotation, unholy and frost have zero rotation, just priority:

Unholy
Diseases > Dark Transformation > DnD*/SS if both Unholy and/or all Death runes are up > FeS if both pairs of Blood and Frost runes are up >
DC if SD, 100 RP, will overcap RP with anything else or if RC isn�t up > DnD*/SS > FeS > DC > HoW.

Where SD is suddendoom and RC is runic corruption, the rest is skills and should be easy to figure out.

Frost:

Diseases > Ob if both Frost/Unholy pairs and/or both Death runes are up, or if KM is procced >
BS if both Blood Runes are up > FS if RP capped > Rime > Ob > BS > FS > HoW.

KillingMachine makes your Ob or FrostStrike autocrit. Thing is you dont want your FS to use the KM proc as it only crits for 30k while your OB crits for upto 50-60k.

AOE rotation for both specs should be easy to figure out, aoe attacks is priotized, Dark Transformation is a must as the ghouls claw is turned into a powerful cleave.

Unholy uses Dualwield by the way. When questing a 2-h is better but when killing mobs in dungeons the increased SuddenDeath procs makes DW better.

Also, since I haven't really had an answer yet for this but have you guys done any extreme soloing. Well, extreme to the point of say the bc raids. maghteridon should be possible I guess, if you don't kill the channellers. Gruul should also be killable (buit not the boss before though because of the multiple tanking I guess?). Is ZA still there, is it possible to do this/solo?

What About ssc? Was a fairly long time ago I did the bc content so much is forgotten, same goes for hyjal and that outdoor boss in hellfire peninsula. Black temple is not solo able and I guess sunwelll will be to hardcore as well but how many people do you really need?

I've seen people solo alar and almost the endboss as well but I guess that maybe you can two-three man it for easier (would love to get ashes).

And seeing as tierscaling is so messed up at the moment, expect to be able to bruteforce your way through most BC and some WotLK raids in the future (as more gear becomes available)

Then some random questions, since I haven't played wow in about 1.5 years I'm a little bit rusty.

What is the flying mount costs now days? 200g
Any professions that a death knight should take up on first? Been looking into alchemy to get the mount but it's damn expensive. Maybe I can have something to benefit me more? And what makes the most money now? Any gathering profession makes a lot of money at the moment.

Best right now dpswise and tankingwisecounting the fact that they will add 50 str to bracers-enchant next patch) Engineer/Blacksmithing/JC is a must. BS and JC makes a shitton of money, Alchemy aswell. If you want Alchemy get it, it's a great profession.

Is MC, BWL and AQ still around? Are the drops the same? Yes to all of them

Yeah, heh, many questions, but as I said, I have no way of knowing most things and I don't have an active sub on wow now so can't ask on the official forums here (but who wants to be on that spasmpool of a forum where all your replys you get is in the "l2p noob" area.
