Hey guys I'm looking to get back into PvE healing.
What class would you recommend generally?

I wouldn't prefer Resto Shaman since I have no experience with them.
I was thinking Resto Druid...

Resto shaman is piss eazy, riptide, earthshield and spam chainheal.

Playing resto shaman myself and it's really fucking boring.

Yes I've played them a few times and for some reason I have mana issues.

I've played ALL healer classes in PvP only (Only Priest in PvE) and Resto Shams oom in seconds.  It's crazy, I throw less than 10 heals, and out of mana.  I've been told I must be "doing something wrong", the char was full Deadly (this was a long time ago).

Holy Pala was great though, with the right trinks (and other gear) you can approach infinite mana with FoL...

Yea, you must have done something wrong definitely, if you went oom as a resto shaman.
One of the easiest classes to keep mana up with, because of mana tide, watershield and mana spring.

I think this is the kicker.
Having to take damage to regain mana seems counter-productive to me.

It is indeed. Thank god it's a passive mana regen whenever it's up.

If you run OOM as a resto shaman in pvp after a few heals, you are definately doing something wrong. I did arena (me on my DK, and a resto druid friend), against a team of resto shaman and a retri paladin. The match must've lasted atleast 16-17 minutes, neither healer went oom, and neither healer was able to run away and drink. We gave up, it was just boring.

Point being, you've got ALOT of ways to regain mana, water shield is one, shortly followed by mana tide totem. Water shield alone should keep you up if you've got someone on you, if you refresh it whenever it runs out. One hit equals quite a bunch of mana, and having a riptide rolling on you is quite good. It's nowhere near a druid where on the tap of a button with a 3 minute cooldown you'll get almost you full mana bar back.

I play a Resto Druid and Shammy..  Both are simple.  I find the Druid easier then i find the Shaman..  But both can be fun, and really boring...

rly depends on what u wanna do....Druids and shamans are raid healing, but i see shaman as easier xD spamming chainheals around isnt rly hard xD, but if u want some fun healing go for a priest, best all around healing there is, Disc is pr0 for tank healing, and holy just rocks for raidhealing

Well, most has been said here though.

Shamans: Chain heals, earth shields, and very good all-round healing. Alot of insta-heals and oh-shit buttons in case you fail.

Druids: Quick to learn, hard to master. There are incredible druid healers, and there are good druid healers. Those incredible ones will always be second on healing done (paladins will of course be first), but druids will save lives.

Priest: Very good healers aswell, Disc for singletarget healing (shields, absorbs, and just lending helping hands to the tank to survive), while Holy serves as raid healer, and they are good at it aswell.

Paladins: Paladins in the game are currently the most played class, due to the sick amount of healing they can put out, the "best" tanks in the game, and incredible DPS. Paladins are just easily put dropping FAT healing on one target, so if you enjoy whack-a-mole, you'll enjoy paladins. Don't get me wrong though, it's more then just clicking on a button every second, a skilled player will do other things then healing (throwing out salvations, hand of protections, and of course buff the raid with the incredible blessings).

I personally have a shaman, and I really enjoy it. Shamans feels like I've got alot of things covered when I'm healing, and they can both raid heal very good, and keep up the tanks in case of emergency (we got fat heals aswell!)

If you're after raid healing, any class would fit except for paladins. If you want to singletarget heal, paladins would be my first thought. Priests are very good at it aswell, shortly followed by druids and shamans with a tie.

Shamans have alot of insta-heals, wuuuuut? Last time i checked we had Riptide and thats it. You really cant count Natures Swiftness + heal as an instant or the Earthliving proc.

Yes, my bad, definately not alot of exactly "INSTA" heals, was quite late when I replied. What I meant to say was that together with really fast heals, the new T10 set bonus and riptide, makes up with alot of healing in no-time if needed. 20% spell haste after the instant Riptide will practically end up with a 1.0 second cast time of Healing Wave that'll probably crit for quite a bunch.

Paladins are falling behind DK's and Warriors in tanking, especially since the DK buff and pally stam nerf, i believe they no longer hold the "best tank" titile, altho it did last long lol

Im gonna start pvping with a guildie in 2v2, me on pally and him on arms warr, should be fun.

I raid with my resto druid, and I gotta say its really easy

Levelin a mage and levelin a priest after mage

Myeah ^^ With the new buffs coming to the death knights in the next patch, it'll be equal in between all tanks I'd say ;O

anyone got an idea when the new expansion might show up? Rumours where in February or march but seeing how the king is dead now and soon in heroic I guessing around summer? They can't drag it out any more can they?

#1245361 by turfaD (Power User) at 2010-02-26 00:14:23 (3 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

i would say Cataclysm wont be seen before the summer since in patch 3.3.5 they will release a new dragon for us to slay ;> so i would say during the summer or after.

Pretty good breakdown.
I ended up going with Resto Druid, since I have experience with them but never really in PvE situations.  The "whack a mole" healing you mentioned is what I'm mostly used to, and I find it slightly less exciting than what the more versatile healers offer.  I played Holy Priest and Paladin for years now, so anything but whack-a-mole healing is good, and I guess that's what Resto Druids offer the most of.

Avoiding Paladin is a good idea these days, too hard to find raids with them.
My friend was Holy and has now re-rolled a resto sham to get into groups easier.

I did have a really good chart of how many different players and which classes they played. It ended up basically with over 29% of the whole community in the world playing Paladins or so. Whenever I actually start a raid for Vault of Archavon or something, I always end up with 5-6 whispers from paladins in general. Of course, 50% of those are holy aswell, since it's really easy to heal with low-end gear aswell.

Druid is a good choice! Make sure to master every inch of it, and you'll be incredible! And for the love of god, if you are going to raid heal, please pick the Revitalize talent; http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=48545

That talent is just GODLY for DPS classes <3
