whats this "open dialogue" thing that everyones talking about ? do you's mean the thing that bitcomet pops-up before you download to let you select the files you want to download ?

Yes.

as i like first to download a file then seed 1:1 without affecting my download speed, is it possible to have a slow upload with max download? bitcomet/abc/bittornado had this option

Yes, under Preferences, there's a section called Network options, there you can specify all kinds of speed limits. And if you right-click a torrent, you can specify individual settings for that torrent too.

I had ro delete the old .dat (configuration) files from docs and settings/username/application data/utorrent to get the dialog to open. I did save the resume.dat.

That's not necessary at all, all you have to do is check the box under General options (see my previous post for instructions).

Looks like Bitdefender (antivirus/firewall program) have problems with utorrent.
Im currently using Bitdefender and utorrent, and getting strange bugs.

if i set the upload speed low, i dont get any good speeds (30k/s) if i set it to unlimited i get 1mb/s
any remedies?

Updated to 1.4 with the following result : Almost no dl speed , and almost no ul speed. Im connectable , and my ports are forwarded correctly , so i downgraded to 1.3 , and i instantly had full dl and ul speed back. So no Utorrent upgrade for me , before a better , more bugfree version comes along.

Lol, i just noticed that with 1.4 version i'm getting only 1kb/sec from a single peer. All the settings are ok, but for example if i download a torrent with 5 seeds, the maximum i can get is 5kb/sec .
Example :

EDIT : Solved : In network options settings, if you limit your upload speed to a small value, utorrent 1.4 limits your download speed too, no matter if you have select unlimited download speed! hmmmmm strange!!!

Have you read the other uTorrent threads on this forum? did you read this whole thread thru or did you just post? did you even think about PMing a FLSteam member?

Ehm. I have read a few other threads and almost whole this. Even read threads on the µtorrent forum and i cant find the answer. So should i pm a FLSteam member instead of waiting on an answer here?

I reckon we would have a bit less "spam" on the "official" thread if the 'asking for help stuff' went thru FLS, not straight to forums. So yes: you should always PM FLS first.. It says on the Staff page: "General support questions should preferably be directed to these users."

I'm not saying that its wrong asking help on the forums, but usually this kind of helping takes awful lot of messaging between the helper and the user and it makes the thread reading harder.

Though i reckon your max number of connections (global/torrent) (or files open or something) are set too low, resulting in slow upping.

Ok, I tried utorrent for the first time now. Amazingly low cpu and mem use, but my hdd makes some working noises I can't say I'm liking when I'm seeding at high speeds (1MB/s ++)

Are my hdd's going to die an early death because of this client?

No. HDDs are made to be used. you may want to try defragging your HDDs with a proper defrag software (not the windows one). o&o defrag 8.0 is OK.

gotta say i love this torrent client and im trying to get my friends to convert too .. its till in its early stages of development and it much better than bitcomet at it is

#514093 by jbladeDonor (First Line Support) at 2006-01-16 03:42:17 (7 years ago) - [Report]Top

Is there anyway to turn off the auto limting of download speed?  I rather the tracker do that for me, and not the client.

#514279 by ROCKmyJOCKzDonor (Power User) at 2006-01-16 11:24:06 (7 years ago) - [Report]Top

its set to max by default on mine (the downloads)

and it seems to me that everytime i restart my computer im not cennectable .. its either my isp or utorrent and i dont have the radomise port option ticked either ... its happened twice in the last week

ROCKmyJOCKz : "...its till in its early stages of development and it much better than bitcomet at it is", are you kidding me ? The only thing that is better in UT is that it is light and not so heavy as BC (and not banned on some trackers ) , otherwise BC has 500% better connectivity then UT, thats why your getting best DL/UL speeds with BT in a blink. Though UT has some good potential, if they can make it so fast connectable as BC i will switch for it.

Most of you think BitComet is "faster" than other clients, but what u don't know is the reason why.

The reason why is because of its countless "cheating like" characteristics, for example:
  • it hamers the tracker, and pays no attention to the tracker when it tells the client how long to wait before re-announce.
  • when it gets snubed by another peer (basically meaning the peer refuses to give the BC client any upload because it has not been given any download from the BC client, the BC client then disconnects up to 10+ times per second to that client in an attempt to get unsnubed.
  • It has no (working) upload slot limit, so it makes the upload bandwith so streached out that each peer only gets a few 100 bytes per second or less.
  • The new encrypt header feature in BC 0.60 gave it a very unfair advantage and would basically prefer itself over uploading to other tpyes of clients. (afaik, uTorrent is working on a similar feature, but will be making it public information, so that all other clients can implement it if their authours wish to; this is the only real way for this to be effective)
  • If you request too many pieces from it (something around 100? or so), it drops ALL your requests.
  • It also abuses super-seeding by disconnecting and reconnecting to get a slot, and basically monopolize the super-seeder's bandwidth.
  • It has an abusive multi-tracker implementation (announces to all trackers in all tier always).
  • It also does stupid things when making torrents (such as not use UTF-8 as the encoding for chinese, japanese, and korean users that make torrents)

The truth of the matter is, BitComet is faster, because it makes ALL other clients slow by the reasons i listed and more; the whole BitTorrent community would be a lot better off if everyone banned BitComet.

And as a final note, the BitComet developers have known about this issue for months now, and are only now just releaseing BC 0.61 which still does have some very minor DHT leak bugs, and crashes on many systems.

  • Not my words, don't know if it's even all true, but it wouldn't suprise me in the least if it was...
