Anyone here used usenetserver.com's services? Are they reliable?
I used them before and they are a decent provider but i found the 21 day retetion a bit on the low side for a paid news service. Also their unlimited plan is the same price as Newshosting which has a 40 day retention.

free servers are pretty much useless. Ill be surprised if any of those were actually real and even if they are they probably wont have anything worthwhile to download. YOu should see if your isp has a newsserver you can access or better yet subscribe to a pay server like newshosting or giganews.

How fast is your connection?
im using rogers express : 3mps , about 380kb/s download and 50kb/s upload, not the best but does its job well enough. I am actually planing on purchasing an account on newshosting soon, i just want to understand newsleecher and how it works before i blow my money. I tried connecting to rogers newsgroup (nntp with no password or username) i got it from http://docs.newzbin.com/Usenet:ISP_Providers#Rogers . I used port 119 and 8000 but i couldnt connect :\
keeps telling me either offline or offline (connect on demand) or error--(lost the message here)
Just add the server, then import .nzb and press connect it automatically starts downloading. Make sure you dont have any peerguardian like programs running.

Im using Giganews, and im pretty pleased. All of their accounts are with 10 simultaneous connections, they have aslo 70 days retention and both US and Europe based servers, so you wont experience lag, unless you are from the Rest of the World. Im downloading with 7-8 MB/s from their server with my 100Mbit connection, mainly because im capped @ 1.2 MB/s per connection. Also for firewalled users who cant connect to the default port 119, or the port is capped, i recommend the Forte APN :
Their unlimited service costs $14.75 per month with 4 connections, their server is in USA.
You can connect to it on port 443 , if your port 119 is blocked, pretty usefull in unis or corporations who are blocking their ports. The other big newsgroup provider that offers this is Easynews, but i dont like them since they dont have unlimited service.

yea nl programmers are cracking down on "pirated" versions of NL..so the
only way to fix this is to block their site on the host file..u cant use the
supersearch anymore but..it helps it from crashing
