Hey waylander, nice list of ones that you are keeping up with. You're still looking for more after watching all that!? Anyway, my suggestion is Doujin Work. It's a funny look into the world of otakus, and I'm currently considering it a filler until the new series of Genshiken The episodes are only 10mins each unfortunately, but they fit a good amount of comedy in there to make it worth while imo. Also, have you seen School Days? Right now it's averagey romance type anime with the downside of having an annoying male lead. However, if the h game that it's based on is anything to go by, things should get interesting towards the end of the season. I can safely say that it's either going to end up being either really good or really bad.

To other (less anime dedicated) people looking for animes to watch, my favourites that are currently airing are (in a rough order from best to worst)

Claymore great if you like animes to feature slim girls wielding giant swords, and let's face it, who doesn't? But Claymore really has more to offer than just that, with an interesting story, and interesting characters to go with it. Berserk was one of my all time favourite animes, and this one is of a similar vein!
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann every episode has been really interesting, and the series continues at a very fast pace, combining a nice amount of comedy into an extremely unconventional mecha series
Seto No Hanayome I dont know how the japanese manage to use the same jokes every week but still make it funny every time - but they do
Zero no Tsukaima ~Futatsuki no Kishi~ Quite a funny show which also blends action and comedy together well. A must for the tsundere fans, ie. me!
Ookiku Furikabutte Nice baseball sports anime, which doesnt follow the usual formulas. It's based on  one of the best selling and most critically acclaimed mangas in Japan at the moment. However, the protagonist is a complete wussbag of unrivalled proportions right now - he cries when people look at him. And when they dont. But I like the technical focus of the show, and think it can certainly go places, especially if the main character mans up a bit.

edit: Forgot seirei no moribito. Tis nicely drawn and the story has gotten pretty good recently too!

Damn AniDB... Now you have to login just to see the subgroups? Really annoying!

I don't really agree... Claymore has way more potential than Berserk ever had
Have you seen the last episodes? Claymore is getting better and better for every ep! It's one of the few series that I actually watch right after I download it, and doesn't stack until I have e few eps

Yep, I dont wait to watch claymore! It's at the top of my recommended list The latest episode was indeed very nice, and apparently it only gets better from here! Although I'm not that far in the manga myself, as I only read the viz published ones and not the scanlations, so we'll have to wait and see!

I've had my mind on Berserk for a while.. but can't find any place to download it from.. anyone has an idea where I can get the anime? would appreciate it!
Cheers!

Cheers Dread! damn nice! ;-)

Just a second thought though.. as I always do; does the manga differ from the anime? can anyone say who have read "Berserk"? 'cause I think 25 episodes seems not enough..
and I wanna know in case I want to read the manga, so if ya happe nto know anythin about the difference in story lenght or anythin, plz tell me!^^

#824405 by Setroc (Power User) at 2007-08-15 11:16:05 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

I have read the manga, and you are right, 25 eps isnt enough to cover the story of the manga. In fact the manga is still ongoing after about 18 years The anime only covers the story of the band of the hawk, and in fact doesnt even finish the story, leaving you wondering what the hell is going to happen next. It's an evil cliff hanger with no season 2 to climb up to. I didnt mind this so much though because I enjoyed it more than enough to make me pick up the manga anyway. And at any rate, it's better than slapping on a made up anime ending, which always tends to be a bad idea. Changes to the actual story are fairly inconsequential. They chop out a few side-stories which would only have led to more loose ends if they included them, but in general they do stay quite true to the manga.

#824584 by unknown[96329] at 2007-08-15 20:11:47 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

that's what I thought^^ anyway I think the anime is pretty neat, so I'll watch it! ;-)
Will be nice to have some Berserk manga to read laters then, thumbs up for that!

so ya mean Setroc, that Berserk is an 18 year old story (the story follows Guts in 18 years and more)? or that it was created 18 years ago? :-P
Was the manga any good? I sure damn love the anime though :-D

Think he means that they are still making the manga? Or that they did make the manga for 18 years... holy crap... that would take some time to read...

i don't know about you guys, never enjoyed any manga ever, how do u read that?
i tried reading from the monitor of the computer
i tried printing them out then reading them
i tried my top ten favorite reading positions "if i may say" and didn't enjoy reading them AT ALL ..

whatever the manga was about ... or however the feeling inside me to spoil any coming episode in any series .. i just couldn't do it .. cuz manga .. sucks

question is, how to get into it? i like spoilers, and right now i am enjoying claymore so much that i am downloading the RAWs before the Subbed version

#824721 by Setroc (Power User) at 2007-08-16 09:21:22 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Yeah, I mean that berserk was first published in about 1990 and since then have released a chapter every 2 weeks and are still releasing chapters today. I've only read up to the english publications by dark horse comics, which is currently at volume 18, but scanlations exist up to volume 33. And it's just as fun and bloody as when it all started.

Demagh: I dont enjoy reading from a screen or reading printed scanlations nearly as much as having the book in my hand flicking through, but if you dislike it that much then there probably isnt a way to get into it. You're probably just not a manga person.

#824797 by unknown[96329] at 2007-08-16 13:50:35 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

ah right... seems fair enough, I'll think I'll get 'em and try 'em out ;-)
I think we have till volume 18 here in SWE too.. and they're released every other month.

@ demagh: I know the answer to your problems, you haven't got enough imagination and a playfull mind to read manga. I can read it and it all displays like a movie in my head more or less; if it's a good manga so to say... so it kinda becomes like a anime anyway.. you just gotta imagine that they speak and all the effects and everything, same way when ya read a book!
Use your mind.. you don't when ya watch anime; it shows it all for you^^

Anyway, love both manga and anime!

Great the bleach is back to the original story again
But what do you guys think about Shippuuden so far?
I think it's really good, a bit slow tho but I still love it. Just want to see the rest of the characters

And what do you think about my new avatar?

It's not the original story. It's got arrancar in it, but it's still filler. (i.e - those three arrancar aren't in the manga comics).

I'm really not liking shipuuden. I loved naruto before the fillers, but I just think that they have dragged out the story for shipuuden far too much, and even if they hadn't, it wouldnt be as good as it once was. In fact, I stopped watching it a few eps ago :<

as for your avatar, I like it a lot, but I prefer my new avatar!

Oh, well that sucks, altho the last ep seemed pretty good.
Anyone know when they will be back to the old story?

actually got no idea at all... but that seems like a neat subject to research about.. I'll have a look around on the net when I've got some time over ;-) see if I can find something out!

But I think it's humiliating against teh story to use an arrancar in a filler! Disgrace! Can the fillers really get worse?! :hmmm:

If you think the fillers cant get worse, you obviously havent watched naruto

#827812 by unknown[96329] at 2007-08-27 14:16:24 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

yeah I have :-P but they don't have any fillers at the mom.

EDIT:
BTW, had some research about the Bleach fillers... and according to a person in this forum

http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread. … mp;page=34

...the story will start again at winter! :hmmm:

Quote:
Honestly, this filler crap is pissing me off.
I can understand the need for the occasional filler arc but they just did the Bountou filler arc!
Then what, 5 - 6 episodes of substance and now they're back to this fluff crap?
At least with Naruto you could ignore the whole filler arc because you knew it was all together, not some random substance episodes thrown in the middle.
And now we have to wait till winter (at least that's when they say that they're going to start the attack)?
I've lost all respect for this anime franchise...

If what he's sayin is true I can't do nothing but agree... sometimes ya just wish that ya got the manga instead eh? ..don't ya reckon? :-/

#828783 by Setroc (Power User) at 2007-08-31 02:56:26 (5 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

Well I havent watched bleach for a long time, but I totally agree that waiting for the story can totally kill your love for a good show. However, I think the person you quoted is slightly confused. First he claims he'd rather have a large complete block of filler at a time then goes on to say he's lost all respect for it cause he just found out that he has to wait for a large complete block of filler.

On the other end of the filler spectrum, look at the new hellsing ultimate OVAs. They of course dont have any fillers, but if they intend to cover to the end of the manga like I have heard, then it will probably be about another 5 years before the series finishes (ovas started about 2 years ago). It will take all that time for a rough total of 8 hours of anime

So, there's really no good way to do it. But I think out of these 2 approaches, I'll side with bleach.

Allthough I'm enjoying Bleach and Naruto the fillers are annoying, specialy when they seem to last forever. Naruto has an entire season of fillers.......
Atleast with series like Cowboy Bebop (and lots of others) you when what to expect. 26 episodes, no fillers and the end. But then again it won't last for 200+ episodes.

Two questions:

1)Does anyone know how the Bleach and Naruto (anime) creators get there money? Who is paying them? Cause as far as I know they are free to download. Or is it me being stupid and people do need to pay for it and it's TV rips I've been downloading?

2) I watched a few anime series some better then other but im looking for a new one. Does anyone have any tips? I'm looking for something like: Lain, Noir, Madlax or Elfen Lied.

Hi again olwe!

Question 1: These anime creators make all their money in japan where they are originally aired, and get paid by their respective networks to do what they do. All the free downloads are translated and subtitled by groups labelled "fansubbers", the most respectable of whom usually stop translating and releasing anime if they are signed up by an english speaking company who translates them, subs and dubs them in english for DVDs to sell.

Question 2: I havent actually seen lain, noir, or madlax, as they arent really my type of anime. However, I did watch and enjoy elfen lied. From that alone, i would recommend trying higurashi and monster. Higurash (which is currently airing season 2)i is a horror anime which can be quite graphics at times, while monster is a very slow burning psychological thriller with elements of horror. out of the two i've recommended, I'd guess that higurashi was more your style, but you might enjoy both!

edit: Perhaps also El Cazador de la Bruja which is currently airing, and is made by the same people as madlax/noir

I dont really have movie suggestions for you I'm afraid. I dont tend to watch too many of them. However, if it's gun animes you like, you might want to check out the series trigun. Come to think of it, trigun and el cazador are probably much better suggestions for you than higurashi or monster. However, trigun isnt really that graphic.

by the way, did anyone here see and enjoy Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan, aka club-to-death angel dokuro?
