Hi, am trying Opera for the second time (first was years ago when they used to nag for money). Looks a bit funny but hey.

But, has anyone had any luck with the inbuilt bit torrent?  Trying with a small file but nothing.  Shows no seeders/peers.

I wrote a tutorial on speeding up Firefox, theres info in the thread about tweaking memory usage:

Never tried it, and never will.
I only use the browser to browse and nothing else.

uTorrent covers my torrenting needs.

yeah, the inbuilt BT client blows. make sure it is disabled & thus does not interfere with your normal client - opera:config in the address bar & uncheck Bittorrent:enable

@Ganth
nice link, has been always an opera fan but firefox extensions are just too sexy to give them up, but i think now extensions + security holes == not worth it. back to opera now, at least for a while

Anyone tried Firefox 2 yet? RC2 is available now. My initial impression is that it's nice and shiny, a lot like vista. Have yet to see many changes (built in spell checking is one) other than superficial things, though I hear it has improved security features.

Question regarding Opera: How do I prevent Opera from blocking images of certain sizes (thumbnails) because it thinks theyre ads? I get this on certain websites with lots of thumbnails-theyre just all blocked and it says "ad" on each one of them. I couldn't figure out how to disable this, I want to either disable this individually for each website, or disable it universally while still having pop-up blocking enabled.

Thanks

I used to use firefox when i was in windows and I loved it, but then I made the switch to mac os x
and then it just didn't "feel" right, I cant explain it. so I tried Camino, same gecko engine as FF, I liked it but it didn't have all the great extensions that firefox has. Then I decided to try Safari. to my surice it was fast and and had a very nice feeling to it, then with the saft plugin and CocoaGestures, Im all set

I used IE 6, because well, I was comfortable with it and I never needed a change. Then I decided to download IE 7, and couldn't stand it. Everything felt unnatural in it. I've never liked FireFox, so I made the jump to Opera, and I'll never go back.

Anyone have any idea where I can get a plugin that blocks banners and ads?

I like Opera the most, just because it looks nice and has plenty of feautres, and if I need something I would get some widget, wihilst I use Firefox only for my webmail.

I finally had my fill of Firefox and switched to Opera. I had been using FF since it was called phoenix and loved it up until 2.0, but it became too bloated and used too much memory. It took like 3 seconds to launch on an e6300 with no other task running and ran very poorly with bit torrent using upload or any major task using the other cpu. I did really like the in-line spell checker of FF 2.0 though, I'll give them that. I'm sure there are tweaks and fixes for these problems but frankly i'm sick of having to customize everything in my life to get it working properly and quickly. Opera has come a long way since I last used it and I hope its makers stay true to their principals rather than try to make an IE killer like Mozilla did.

Does opera have an inbuilt favourites system (or via a extention).. where it stores your favourites online etc?

I use a del.icio.us account with the inbuilt system in Flock ( www.flock.com )

Would like to try opera if it has a similar capability

I use opera and I love it! I'll tell you why:

- I can add a nickname for my bookmarks, so when i type "tb" in the adressfield, torrentbytes show up.
- The bookmarks in the rootfolder show up under the adressfield, if you type the first letters in the domain. Even if you haven't visited the site. Eg. my history is cleared but when i type "t" torrentbytes shows up just like i've visited it. Not really to useful but it's a lovable detail :-D
- I can add customized searches. Eg. when I type "tb rocky" in the adress field I search torrentbytes for rocky.
- It loads fast.
- I can do practically anything with the keyboard.
- It's ahead of it's competitors.
- Loads with your last session (if you choose to).
- I can save sessions.
- Really easy to block ads, without plugins.
- Easy to delete stored up data.
- I can automatically open eg. torrent files in µtorrent when the download finishes. (doesn't always work perfectly though :-/)
- The newest version chrashes very rarely and handles most pages, still some that don't work though :-( Hate switching browser when a site doesn't work in opera :-P
- Almost forgot mouse gestures!

That's about all I can come up with for now, maybe I'll add some more things later
In my opinion opera is far better than any other browser, and I just love it.
Make the switch all you FF- and IE-users out there. Give it some time and you'll love opera too ;-)

Yeah, go Opera. I used FireFox, and it was great, but Opera quite simply shits over it.

FireFox is great, don't get me wrong, it has loads of extentions and plugins, but Opera is still better. It has all the features FireFox 2.0 has, but ages before 2.0 was released

ah, I was gona add to this post that after giving Opera an honest try for 3-4 weeks I went back to FF 2.0

Opera is great and has come a long way, but I got annoyed with having to disable it's torrent client, irc client, trying to use its ad blocker, screwing with extension affiliations in general, bad rendering of animated gifs, and still some issues with with pages. The inline spell checker of FF2 is a tough treat to live without as well. FF will always be a memory hog and it's good that there are other browsers but with some minimal changes to the UI of FF and better cache management it's not so bad.

does anybody know where to get a little script (javascript) for opera, that would changes redirecting links to go directly to the "real" target?

like this link *http://www.torrentbytes.net/redir.php?url=http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0479537/* will look only *http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0479537/* in adress bar

I had that script once, but lost if due my hdd crash...and i cant find it anymore :-/

Im using opera 9.1 (8679)..
