Btw though, why are you guys all posting links to adblocking addons to Opera? I just have the browser without any addons (version 8.5) and it seems to block all ads, so I don't see the need for an addon.

The addon blocks banners, graphics,  or any other remote ad content you choose to block, while the standard blocker is for popups only.

still use IE, never any issues, never swamped with crap, pretty easy to maintain and as support at work it helps to keep updated with its knowledge.

This just in. There are no Americans in baghdad!

FF had some great features but just didnt like it just being an updated netscape, had horrible grey image place tags and started juttering about if pressed history or favourites, that and unable to display many basic IE designed sites.

maybe i will try again on another release

The reason FF has problems reading some "IE designed" pages, is that IE doesnt read HTML correctly.
This is not FFs fault, its IE's.

Opera is actually one of the only software I would think of buying. Really it is awsome and I love the integrated email client(even this is advanced).

Im still on 8.5 O yeah and I LOVE the mouse gestures. I cant live without Opera!

Opera is the best good to see people converting to it, its alot faster than firefox andis great in every way

if you have not tried opera before then at least give it a try!

Opera with the new 8.5 version...dare I say it...better then FF?

Personally it was better for me before but now...confirmed.

People should try both browsers, but not just for an hour, use it for a week to get the real feel of it.

I don't get why you'd change from FF -> Opera, any long-time FF users care to explain?  And mention if you used extensions in FF or not.

Alright, I have been an Opera user for around 3 years now and because of this thread, I decided to try Firefox 1.5. Although I have used it sparingly in the past, I wanted to examine it closely and thus I spent several hours with it earlier today. I messed around a lot with about:config and installed a whole bunch of extensions. I was able to achieve a point where I had basically configured Firefox to behave almost exactly like Opera - in terms of tabbed browsing behavior, mouse gestures, and even browsing and page loading speed. I will continue to play around with FF but so far I've reached a point where I'm comfortable using it.

So basically my point is that after tweaking both browsers heavily, they can essentially be the same in terms of behavior. Now, I know that even after tweaking, Opera still has some rendering issues and FF still has memory problems, but there are always negative facets to every browser (except maybe Lynx ).  The one thing that I think FF has going for it is the fact that it has a large community to help encourage the development of extensions - I feel that this is something that Opera needs in order to help spread, at least with custom user-made scripts, filters, etc. Aside from this, it really depends on how much you tweak each browser.

I mainly use firefox, but I hate scrolling down a page. you can't view a text or something properly when scrolling, but in opera it works so much smoother. I like the tabbed browsing and the bookmarks toolbar very much in FF, so that is why I'm sticking to it

Firefox rules the waves.  IE sucks, and Opera sucks more.  That's my thought.

Well can you give your reasons as to why you think opera sucks.
