Im using the firefox minefield alpha build (3.7 a4pre) atm and they finally made it so the FF default skin is the same as windows explorer (transparent glass for win7) which is a nice upgrade.

Did they really remove it? or I'm just hallucinating? cos I need it so bad, I usually use it to know the dimensions and url of any pic

They really did remove it and it's quite annoying. I just installed this add-on to restore it: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/14228/

has anyone tried flock web browser suppose to be as good if not better than firefox, i am going to try it for a couple days see what its like

I've tried Flock, and have to say it isn't bad. You have to rely on the firefox extensions working for it for the most part and there seems to be a lack of themes, perhaps I didn't look hard enough.

I only really tried it for a couple of days, after which I just went back to FF, because it isn't broken (for me at least) I see no benefit from going to something "firefox like" when I can just run the original.

I also tried google crome for about 10 minutes. uurrgh

Firefox 3.6.3 was just released and it has really surprised me. Very fast page renders compared to before the update and a really nifty theme system with 30,000 themes to chose from.

I wish Opera had Adblock. Not just an ad-blocker, as it does now, but THE AdBlock. Being able to block virtually any part of a site is absolutely awesome, and means I can make my favourite sites absolutely ad-free, something that's not possible with Opera.

Okay I needz helpz! :-(

Chrome is really pissing me off, but not enough to switch back to FF.

Anyway, is there a way to set Chrome to warn you before closing the Browser?
Like FF would say something like, "You have 8 Tbs open, are you sure you want to close?"
I have been meaning to click Restore and clicking Close.

Plz helpz!

There is no way to get a "warning" like in IE for example. But I think they will be adding it in 5.0. Not sure though.

Ctrl + shift + t brings back a recently closed window... and it remembers up to like, 10 windows.

Cool, thanks for the reply.
I just found an option to open back the browser to the tabs that were previously open. So that will do for now I guess.

It's renamed to "Show image info" ... the properties window was duplicate functionality as it showed the same info that was in Tools  > Page Info only formatted differently.

Not sure if the bug is still there, but just in case...

Don't forget the Downloads window open when you close the browser... it will not remember the tabs because the downloads window is itself considered a "tab", so when you close the Downloads window to close Firefox completely, the only tab remembered is the "Downloads" window.

Hype? Its actually good, its not a hype.

BTW the new Firefox 4.0 is gonna look like opera, I don't like it when they put the tabs over the navigation:

This image has been resized, click here to view the full-sized image.

One if the biggest reasons I don't use chrome is because I can't get used to the design.. It doesn't feel like a browser.

IMO in terms of innovation FF is the Apple of browsers. Chrome or (usually) Opera will implement a new feature/design only for it to copied a couple of ff releases later.-That screen shot pretty much shows it.Some FF users will then spout on about it and compare it to IE as its the only 2 they know/have used.

The main reason i use opera is the scrolling :-P...I don't know what it is it just feels less jerky
edit: apparently its called smooth scrolling

You can enable smooth-scrolling in Firefox, Tools > Options > Advanced > "Use smooth scrolling".

I like Chrome's interface plenty, it's great how much of the page is visible due to how streamlined it is. I tried to do the same with my Fx by compacting the menu items and address bar into one line and the (small) navigation buttons, favourites and search bar into another, but it's still about 10px larger than Chrome's and has the permanent status bar. I am quite angry about them wanting to remove the menu items though, like what MS did with Win7's explorer.exe.

No matter what they wanted to do with version 4 I would've complained unless it was completely unchanged, so I'll just have to wait and see, I'll probably love it.

Decided to install the smooth scroll extension on chrome. Feels damn jerky with the default settings at least...

A few other things I dislike on the current chrome..

Not enough settings to mess around with, at least by default.
Working with self signed certs is a bitch.
has 'nothing' by default (needs shitload of extensions, ff has the same problem, hence Im not using it either)
most extensions work a bit 'wrong' or a lot wrong. (also on ff)
Also there seems to be some kind of a memleak. One tab open with a light page, after three days on it'll use about 1GB of ram + some swap.

#1281349 by punk (Power User) at 2010-05-13 05:00:31 (3 years ago) - [Quote] - [Report]Top

wow firefox looks like opera. I use opera as my main browser and I enjoy the new look but I do like my menu items visible so i keep that there.

I think chrome is a pretty good browser but it lacks any sort of minimal password saving protection - its as easy as navigating to the options and show passwords.

I really like how opera has gone a step further with private browsing and included an option for private windows and tabs.

Firefox still uses up to much memory for my liking but that could be due to one or two plugins

All the options i've been liking about opera has eventually found its way onto other browser either through official updates or via plugins. But it was about time that opera included the private option that the others have implemented for a while now - that I do give credit

The new Firefox looks promising!

Chrome never really appealed to me, but after upgrading Opera to 10.5x, I really got used to the new look and now it almost feels a bit cumbersome to use Firefox.

Despite that, Firefox's extensions system still vastly outweighs the user interface's limitations - not to mention that a few extensions help improve it a bit - so for now Opera is mostly restricted to the work computer.

Good news! You can f inally open the 400 tabs in Firefox like you always wanted! Starting yesterday 64-bit builds of Firefox are available for Windows. A little while back Mozilla had started producing 64-bit builds for Mac OSX as well. 64-bit builds of Firefox for Linux have been available for quite a while now, and if you are running a 64-bit version of any Linux distro in all likelihood you are already running a 64-bit build of Firefox.

There isn't a 64-bit version of Flash for Windows yet is there, so Flash wouldn't work on a 64-bit Windows browser would it?

I used FF for a few years and switched to Chorme when the last beta was out last year and never looked back.
I love how streamlined it is, no useless clutter and it has all I need with 2 extensions - AdBlock & Smooth Scroll.
Not going to change to anything else any time soon.
