As there are so many different threads for discussing the different browsers i figured we should have just the one thread and keep all the browser talk in one place :-)

still use IE, never any issues, never swamped with crap, pretty easy to maintain and as support at work it helps to keep updated with its knowledge.

FF had some great features but just didnt like it just being an updated netscape, had horrible grey image place tags and started juttering about if pressed history or favourites, that and unable to display many basic IE designed sites.

maybe i will try again on another release

<3 FF

i like the fact you can costumize it to whatever you want

I think that ultimately, assuming MS doesn't screw up IE 7 majorly, FF will remain a niche product, only for "ethusiasts" etc.

However, I don't think that's a bad thing - FF development is already working well, so it doesn't really need to grow any more.    MS, even with IE7, is playing catchup to FF/Opera - so there's really no possibility(in the next 5 years, say) of FF being "behind" in browser tech - it will most likely be a leader.

In this discussion, I think we should stay away from "which browser is faster", because unless you're comparing lynx to IE/FF/Opera, speed depends more on how good your machine is than anything else.

you are so wrong, Mozilla & Fx är build upon a new codebase separate from Netscape. The "new" netscape is build upon Mozilla and then Firefox just with more bugs and other useless crap.

Firefox rocks!

FF was freezing way too many times opening a page where is a lot of posts or a lot of images. So I tried Opera. And I must say I don't miss FF at all.

I've been testing and comparing firefox and opera for some time now and they both seem to be very good choices. However I can see why some people only like the other one. They are pretty different and have their own strengths. But here are my opinions with +/- -charts for both of them according to my experience.

Opera:
+ Almost always very fast
+ A little more customizable (by default)
+ The sidebar is better (I don't use it much though)
+ Good default menus
+ Downloading files
- Lack of extensions
- Lack of proper adblocking (Tried at least 3 different methods and they a) didn't work very well/at all or b) slowed everything down too much)
- Occasional weird bugs and 'freezes'
- Lags almost as much as firefox while loading heavy content
- Printing tools/implementation
- Loading indication
- Some pages take forever to load or they don't show up properly

Firefox:
+ Numerous extensions/themes (easy to install, configure & use)
+ Adblock extension
+ Usually very fast
+ Bookmarking
- Slows down while opening many tabs fast
- Not much options/features by default
- Can seriously lag/freeze for a few seconds while loading heavy content
- Downloading many files can get buggy

Maybe I will add more later.
I'm currently using both but mostly firefox because of the extensions and it just feels better in general. They are both very good browsers. If you're not familiar with them, give them a try.

Gotta love FF

I used netscape... but prefer FF. IE is not my thing... but some sites require it

@mauno

nice way and nice details .. but i have to oppose u with some stuff:
- Occasional weird bugs and 'freezes'       "didnt experience that at all"
- Some pages take forever to load or they don't show up properly  "strongly agree"
- "Close tab"-button on every tab                                                     "why is it a disadvantage??"

with FF:
agree with all u said and adding
-a really crappy inefficient download manager

It is a disadvantage to me, I end up clicking it by accident often (call me clumsy or something). I don't really have any use for a button like that, because I close tabs with middle click. I didn't find an option to disable it either.
EDIT: Ok found the option, I feel so stupid now.

The occasional freezes with opera are weird and it might just be something with my system. Sometimes it just freezes while loading a site and stops responding... Sometimes it comes back to life after a while. It might be some plugin error with flash or java, but I can't remember what I was doing when it froze.

And I agree, the firefox download manager sucks.

.

Configured right?
Preferences/general, clear "show close button on each tab"

Loading indication = Progress Bar:  View/Toolbars/Customise:off,  Bottom, top, normal or simple display.

+ drag tabs to position
+ fit to window width"
+ better history, downloads, RSS, and notes.
+ faster

Lol I'm so blind, how the hell did I miss that... Ok, I'll remove the minus from my earlier post.
And the loading indication stuff... I didn't find any good way to use it (IMO), it was always bad no matter how I configured it.

Mauno, it's not easy when every program has to have it's own terminology for each setting. We all should stick with the native Microsoft programs like normal people do.

Maxthon

Maxthon Internet Browser software is a powerful tabbed browser with a highly customizable interface. It is based on the Internet Explorer browser engine which means that what works in the IE browser will work the same in Maxthon tabbed browser but with many additional efficient features like...

Tabbed Browsing Interface
Mouse Gestures
Super Drag&Drop
Privacy Protection
AD Hunter
RSS Reader
IE Extensions Support
External Utility Bar
Skinning
And Much More to Explore...

i use it! very best of all of them imo!

Of course Firefox wont display those correctly...they're not sites that were written with w3C.org standarts in mind, those sites were written to support M$. That's sad though, M$ is a big company, but standarts are standarts, why make life harder...

I use FireFox too, most of  my friends use it, it has many advantages, like bookmarking and all that. It doesn't lag for me or anything, seems like people blame their slow connections and overall slow computers on the browser.

I like FireFox, none of the pages I visit have any problems with it, but maybe it's just me who have stopped visiting these sites. Since they tried to target it to the public it has become a little to IE like but I can live with it, then I can customize it and thereby live without it.

Opera? I never really understood it's pop-up blocker. Some calls it smart because it doesn't block good pop-ups. In my opinion all non-requested pop-ups are evil. It's good for low-end machines

Used Internet Explorer for a few months back in 2001 it looked quite old back then.
