1. Enter the DVD you want to back up, start DVD Decrypter and press the I button on your keyboard.
2. By default, the longest PGC is preselected. This works for most discs. In rare cases, you'll have several PGCs that have the same (or roughly the same length). If they have the same length, there's usually no reason to worry. If some are a bit shorter, you are dealing with a seamless branching movie.
This means, the disc contains multiple versions of a movie (for instance the theatrical cut (what you saw in the movie theater), and the director's cut (usually longer, containing scenes the director thought should be in the movie but the studio wanted cut out because a theatrical release must not be too long). In this case, select the PGC that corresponds to the cut you want to see.
Sometimes, a PGC contains subitems: angles. By default, Angle 1 is selected, which is usually the way to go. Angles are mostly used to have multi-language end credits (Disney and Miramax use those quite a lot). Angle 1 is normally the English release.
3. Last but not least, click on "Tools" -> "Settings" -> "IFO Mode" tab, and make sure that both options in the "File Names" section are checked:
4. Press the big button on the left that has a DVD on it to get started.
thats it
then follow the step 4 in the GUIDE
---------------------------------------------END of DVD Ripping---------------------------------------------
here is the way:
##############################
I compress my stuff with AutoGK 2.20
its very simple and saves you a lot of work
----> JUMP TO STEP 4 IF YOUR SOURCE IS DVD
1. FIRST to cut your SOURCE out of garbage,
i split my videofiles into .mpv + .mpa with "PVAstrumento"
start with "PVAStrumento.exe" in "gui" folder
select your "input stream" (DVD VOBs, TS or mpg...) -> OK
add your .mpv "Video stream" with the button up left in the corner
(Audiostream will be added automaticly)
IMPORTANT: YOU ADD TO CUTLIST WHAT YOU WILL SEE IN RESULTING VIDEO
#
so start at the beginning of the wanted video with the "set cut in" button
the I P B < > buttons will help you to find the right cutpoint
then go to the beginning of the first advertisement ->
search your cutpoint with I P B < > buttons ->
and push "set cut out" button
now you have your first part that you
ADD with "add range to cut list" button to your cutlist
#
now you have to find the first cutpoint after the advertisement ->
search your cutpoint with I P B < > buttons ->
and push "set cut in" button
then go to the beginning of the second advertisement ->
search your cutpoint with I P B < > buttons ->
and push "set cut out" button
now you have your second part that you
ADD with "add range to cut list" button to your cutlist
and so on and so on
#
if you are ready with add cutting ranges
push "cut Video/Audio"
select "output File" and "output path" (bcause speed, select other Physical HDD)
push "Start"
ready to Multiplex ?
3. then join (Multiplex) it with "TMPGEnc Plus 2.5" to a single mpg file again
File->MPEG Tools...->Multiplex->ADD
add your cutted .mpv + .mpa Files
and multiplex to a mpg file
select "Output" (bcause speed, select other Physical HDD)
hit "Run"
----> BEGIN HERE FOR DVD SOURCE
4. and the last is then the compression work, which makes the app AutoGK REALLY SIMPLE
start AutoGK
Step1
select "Input File" for our mpg file (or for a DVD choose the *.IFO file that DVD Decrypter created)
select "Output File" (could be on other Physical HDD but thats not important here)
Step2
select audio streams and subtitles if you want some.
Make sure, that at least ONE audiostream is selected
Step3
Select desired Output Size by "predefinied" or "Custom size"
rule of thumb is:
1 Min = 5,83 MB
30 Min Movie = 175 MB
50-60 Min Movie = 350 MB
"Targed Quality" is not a predictable function in Filesize so dont use
Step4
Push "Advanced Settings"
"Output Resolution settings"
"Fixed width" set to 640
1 Min = 5,83 is best for width of 640
If Source is 4:3 "Auto width" is da best choice (but then the resolution will variate from source to source)
if you have 4:3 Source you may raise up the "1 Min = 5,83" rule for the resolution of 640 but then please dont make your avi file bigger than 700 MB
AutoGKs statement:
Q: Which resolution is used in different output size modes?
A: for Maximum Quality and Quality-based encoding it's the source width
(unless custom settings are used in advanced options).
For Target Size mode - resolution will depend on compressibility of the source.
"Output audio type"
USE VBR 128 MP3
if you want more, make sure its 160 VBR bcause through Blind hearing tests its better than CBR
and 160 VBR is allways enough for DVDs, normal broadcasted movies, shows.
All will be automaticly encoded with LAME Encoder and the best --alt -preset settings
Audio Quality is even with 128 kbps mp3 VBR great for 128 kbps (cutoff Freq. = 17000 Hz)
"CODEC"
USE XviD
(sidenote: doom9 tests showed, that the new 6.0 DivX codec that was developed over one year is of worser Quality than the Free XviD codec)
-> push "OK"
-> push "Add Job"
-> push "Start"
thats it
#######################
you have then succesfully produced a beautifull Xvid file of your desired size
and thats important
bcause you can fit
4x 30 min episodes or
2x 60 min episodes
on a CD-R
