First off.
You should have an active and working connection between your PC and PSP. Just connect it through USB and your PC should discover it.
Start with downgrading your 2.0 PSP, if you have 1.51 or 1.52 you need to first upgrade to 2.0 before the downgrade. The tutorial on how to do this is quite clear. There will be some strange errors which have no affect on the out come.

Instructions are from the Downgrade by MPH:

Installation :
--------------

- Create a UPDATE folder in PSP/GAME/ folder of your memory stick
- Copy EBOOT.PBP (update 1.50) in UPDATE folder
- Unpack MPHDowngrader.zip
- Copy overflow.tif in your PSP/PHOTO/ folder of your memory stick
- Copy h.bin in root of your memory stick
- Copy index.dat in root of your memory stick
- Plug the AC adaptor

Then, enter in VSHELL PHOTO MENU, this will launch Version Changer.

Create an USB connection and if the Version Changer has been installed, a new file is created in your root of your memory stick (ms0:/index.dat.bak).

Then go to VSHELL GAME MENU and launch 1.50 update.

Follow the instructions ...

After that is set you know have a good old 1.50 PSP allowing you to run unsigned code. That doesn't just mean pirated games, but emulators and other homebrew apps.

For running the umd ISO's. You'll need a loader like UMD Emulator.
hxxp://www.psp-hacks.com/downloads/UMD_Emulator_V0.8C.zip can get it from here.
U E have continued the Fastloader project.

The installation here is described in the readme first !! file, and is like this:

Copy all the files from this drawer onto your memstick to use this app, should look like
this after :

PSP/
|
+--- GAME/
|    |
|    +--- UMDEMULATOR/
|    |        |
|    |        +--- EBOOT.PBP
|    |
|    +--- UMDEMULATOR%/
|            |
|            +--- EBOOT.PBP
ISO/
|  |
|  +--- < place ISOs here >
|
UMDEMULATOR/
|    |
|    +--- core.bin
|    +--- menu.bmp
|    +--- config.dat        <-- if this doesnt exist, it will be created by the app
|    |
|    /
|    /
|    |
|    +--- UPDATEICON        <-- optional, create for updater icon replacement
|        |
|        +--- EBOOT.BIN    <-- started when updater icon selected (0146 error currently)
|        +--- PARAM.SFO    <-- updater param.sfo
|
F0/                <- optional, flash0: replacement drawer
|
F1/                <- optional, flash1: replacement drawer

Just copy these files as it says and youre a step closer to enjoy your backups

In the ISO directory of your PSP your should place your backuped UMD games. Just un-rar them like every other release today. Copy it, will take some time. When it's done just fire up the UMD Emulator from within Game/Memory Stick. With the UMD E program up and running you should see the content of the /ISO/ folder now. Press (X) to start the game.

Enjoy

Saw some ppl needing guidance with their new PSP and thought I'll collect what I know for now. Hope there will be some that can use this information. Do not hesitate to ask me questions, but please not about requests. I'll answer at the best of my knowledge.

edit: typos

In the root of your psp create the following folder tree MP_ROOT\100MNV01.
Put your mp4 movies in the 100MNV01 folder.
Then in the psp menu go to video and you can play your movies from there.

Great Tut, but u totally fail to mention that a UMD disc needs to be in the psp before fastloader or UMD emulator boot...

I got a PSP 1.5, and a 2 gig stick, no discs at all and cant load any!!!

Not true!

you can get dev-hook, which is just like fastloader HOWEVER, you do not need a disc at all, i have 8 games on my 2 gig stick, and am still yet to buy a umd..

check it out on www.psp-spot.com in the download section!

#406916 by unknown[32072] at 2005-10-07 16:25:40 (7 years ago) - [Report]Top

DEV-HOOK sucks. I have tried it, with many games.

boots around 3% of them. Wipeout i got close, loads the menu , but try to actually play and it crashes...

Murcury and ridge racer wont load, virtua tennis does menu...

Havent actually played a game using DEV-HOOK

#407802 by unknown[109956] at 2005-10-08 08:44:53 (7 years ago) - [Report]Top

burnoutlegends runs fine, as does tennis, for me anyway.. im still yet to not find a game working on dev.. maybe ur psps fucked

#407927 by unknown[32072] at 2005-10-08 11:33:15 (7 years ago) - [Report]Top

Nice tut, don't got a PSP to try this out so I got some newbie questions.

So I basically have to have a big enough memory stick to place the ISOs I want to use, or is there some way to burn an UMD disc and put it into the small casing?

If I have pirated games on my PSP, can I play multiplayer with people that have legit games?

What's the biggest memory card and its average price?
Are there any non-Sony memory sticks which work fine with the PSP? I presume they cost much less.

Thanks

#408369 by unknown[7381] at 2005-10-08 17:48:24 (7 years ago) - [Report]Top

you need at least a 1 gb stick but better a 2 gb stick.

theres only sony or sandisk as you need pro duo sticks. They cost the same, but the sandisk are much faster!2 gb about 200 Dollers.

Multiplayer i dont know due to stil having to test it :-)

#408620 by unknown[26770] at 2005-10-08 20:46:23 (7 years ago) - [Report]Top

Damn that stick costs almost as much as the PSP. :-O

Thanks for the reply though. Just need the multiplayer info now.

ok multiplayer works of the MemoryStick aswell, just might need to  use the sonyxteam version changer in order to play a few games.

Ok so i was playing marvel nemesis, and its an pretty cool game, only the movement controls suck.
Is there any way to change the movement controls, so that you do not have to use the analog joystick?
