@Nox, that's a bi paranoid. Paypal wouldn't steal, that would make them loose all their costumers and would ruin them.
It's not that much money, a thing like PayPal wouldn't ruin themselves over 20 bucks

I want to donate, I really do but as an adolescent in the United States my resources are limited. But I guarantee you this, the first chance I get to donate I will.

hey, I'm still waiting from my star from donating in December, pre-launch.
But I don't regret doing it. I'm proud to have been a startup donor (10 GBP, woot).
edit: upon further review, my generosity was less than I remembered... 10 instead of 20.
thanks for following up JEFFSR.

Financing something like TB, is illegal. So PayPal can at any time stop the transaction. Paranoid ? Nope, they've done it before.

No it's not! Depends on how you use the site.

as long as the torrents are not hosted on the site. it's not against paypal rules. no copyrighted material is kept on the server.

Depends on wich country, and as most people know paypal has quarters in quite a few countries. That way, they can basicly do whatever they like, when they like.
( An example: I bought over the net, trough paypal, a bong about 1 year ago. This is completly legal where I live, and the place I bought it from sold it legaly. PayPal disliked this, froze my funds, and stopped the payment. I never got my money back.. This has also happend to a numerous of other people, with all sorts of different things. )
ps: this is NOT to discurrage people from paying or helping to keep TB up, rather the opposite. I don't want to see this s*** happen to anyone else. Use anything but paypal !

you know, there have been sites in the past that have been able to find other methods to stay afloat, albiet that may be due to their are ability to have less need to stay private.
but take gamefaqs for instance, before it was bought by Cnet, it remained afloat from quite a while on its own steam, and i imagine the FAQS and forums, the bandwith of which may be roughly similar to TB, maybe even more, may have had the same costs.
I wonder, did they remain afloat based on ad revenue (which they slowly started to integrate)?
i dunno, donating is a very popular and straightforward means to keep the site up, but it seems to finite, it's too bad there cant be a surefire way to rake in enough to stay afloat through stuff like ads liek other sites do.
stileproject also pops to mind, that massive porn trafficking ratship got such a gaining margin from ads that apparently stile is now possibly "wealthy" and not simply just keeping the site alive.
not that i'm suggesting the site try any of that stuff, especially hooking up with porn websites and crazy crap like that, but it would seem there could be a more stable, predictable, and slef sustainable way.....just a thought.

I'm surprised how few donators there are. 7% of respondents... That's lame...

I had a friend which lost $500 due to paypal. They said those money had been part of illegal actions and therefore they just took the money. He sent several mails etc and got no reply or money back. Now call me paranoid or whatever, but even if I'm just paranoid doesn't mean I ain't followed...
