I calculated that if the current stats was to apply to all 50K users and everybody would donate the max amount mentioned it would only go up to 4202 dollars a month.
Currently there are 2% who say that they donated >$20. 2% out of 50k people is 1k people. If these people donate >$20 each, that becomes >$20k already.
The poll asks "have you donated?". Not how much do you donate per month. And as you can see by the replies in the thread, extremely few donate more than $20 regularly when compared to people who just make one- or two-time donations. So it's safe to assume that the $20 has been spread out over the year. Making it 2500 dollars per month.
(This may sound ungrateful or arrogant, it's not meant to. I'm just proving my point about the 20K business.)

Going by the stats its $2540 which equals $211 per month which is calculated on the $20 stat and assuming that everyone is telling the truth and that those that voted are the only ones to donote.
Its still a fair amount.

not donated and not planning to.

I think that very few donate reguarly, i know i don't...
But i belive that if we all put in a little money, instead of trying to convince "someone" that it's not needed, the economic situation of the site would be very good.
Edit: Btw, my donation to TB was the first internet transaction i did.

Sorry but I don't understand what you mean. It asks how much you have donated within the last two months and not how much you have donated overall. I'm assuming that people read the question literally and answer accordingly and truthfully. I don't see a reason to assume that the last two months have been more active donation-wise than other months.
hanek: This is only speculation based on very inaccurate data... not to be taken too seriously.

I'm not paying for warez and never plan to.

Your not paying for the warez, your paying to keep the site your using up and running.

@vade & membrane:
Sorry, I somehow missed out on the "within the two months"-part.
First off, there's no way there's 136 people donating $20 or more within the last two months. We'd be chatting on our own server network if that was the case.
I'm hoping that WILL be the case someday.
Secondly, $211 per month would not be nearly enough to cover the costs of the servers. These servers cost more than that. Nforce aren't cheap but they are secure and have excellent support.
I'm actually starting to think that the admins may need to fill us in a bit on what is needed if indeed anything is.

Many of the people who say they have donated $20 or more within the last two months,
have not donated it to torrentbytes.net.
Either they have donated to other sites, or they are not being quite truthful in their answer.
I can categorically state that no-where near 137 people have donated $20 or more to torrentbytes.net!
The actual figure is 15.
Many many thanks go to those 15, and to all the others who have generously donated.
But as fly pointed out, that is still not enough to keep the site alive!

This poll sort of prompted me to donate to this site, beacause it does a really good job and i want to see it around for a long time.
However i was just wondering roughly how long does it take before they give you that star on your name after donating?

Where does the money come from that keeps the site alive, as it hasn't died yet? Or do you mean that the donations are not enough to provide a safe future for the site?
By the way, I know most of us hate ad banners but wouldn't it be possible to let users voluntarely click an ad banner now and then instead of donating money directly? The user should be able to choose whether he wants to see the banner or not. I'm sure this has been thought before... is it that advertisers want their banners only shown in public places instead of closed communities?

I STILL don't understand why people are SO proud to say that they are NOT going to donate...
Myself I would suspend the cocky bastards account with the site

The site is kept alive purely by donations,
and yes... That is what I mean...
the donations are not yet enough to provide a safe future for the site.

I'll start working this month on the 12th. First paycheck will be on 31/10 and thus that will be the first time i am actually able to donate. So i will donate after that, because this site really deserves it.

I only deem the WWF worthy of my donations since they actually need it and I care for animals and the environment. So no I dont plan on donating here.
