A lot of nForce 3 boards don't install the nVidia sounddrivers if you simply install the nForce driverpack from the nVidia website. But many of us don't know that the nVidia drivers and mixer are much better than the standard Realtek Drivers and mixer (especially if you have a MSI mobo).
So here is a way of how to install the nVidia drivers and mixer.
go here: hxxp://files.filefront.com/nVidia_Audio_466__NV_mixer/;4060639;;/fileinfo.html
and download the rar file. and follow instructions below (also available on filefront):
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The driver you can download on the website of NVIDIA is an old one (4.57). There is already a newer version (4.66).
I had the problem that I couldn’t get the NVmixer equalizer to work with the driver I downloaded.
So now I extracted the latest drivers and NVmixer from the latest driver bundle which is actually for NFORCE4 and cannot be just installed on your NFORCE3 board. So don’t try the whole NFORCE4 pack on aNFORCE3 motherboard. But the NVmixer and audio driver are compatible with NFORCE3 because the NFORCE3 and NFORCE4 have the same audio chip.
Install as follows (for windows XP SP2): Go to ‘Start’ -> ‘Settings’ -> ‘Control Panel’ -> double click ‘System’ -> select the ‘Hardware’ tab -> click ‘Device Manager’
Look for your onboard audio device and right click it and select ‘update driver’.
Than select: ‘No, not this time’ click next.
Than again select: ‘install from a list or specific location (advanced)’.
Than select: ‘Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install’.
Than click on: ‘Have Disk’ and browse to the ‘AudioDrv’ Directory that you just extracted from the RAR archive. Select the ‘nvmcp.inf’ from there and click ‘Open’ and than click ‘OK’.
You will see two devices now, select the ‘NVIDIA(R) nForce(TM) Audio Codec Interface’.
Click next to install the drivers.
You might get a notice telling you that these drivers are not for your device, but just ignore it and install the drivers.
After this you can install the NVmixer, this is optional but I would recommend it since it’s really neat and good working.
For this just go to the extracted ‘AudioUtl’ directory and double click ‘setup.exe’ and it will install the NVmixer
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
well enjoy it I would say.
