The fear of death follows from the fear of life.  A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.  ~Mark Twain

As a firefighter, I am witness to death and destruction on a regular basis, what lies beyond is a mystery, but the one thing we can all agree on is that you must live for today, live for now, live as if there is no tomorrow...

Great quote nYc... though I wouldn't expect it coming from someone with a nickname like "nycthug."  I fully agree with you on living life to the fullest, and that no one knows what awaits you after death.

People who say that they know what happens after death scare me.  Are they messengers of god, or just uber-humans?  But seriously, by the logic (if you can call it that) of believers in an afterlife, you should be able to make a nice tall glass of lemonade out of strawberries.  Alright.. terrible example.  Though it actually would be possible if you look at it on an extremely basic chemistry level in that all matter can be reshaped and never goes away.  Heck, crazier things have happened --an example being the making of wine from water.  Damn, if jesus had been a little bit more entrepeneurial he could have made a killing!

Sometimes I like to believe that I am god, and openly express it.  Turns out it can be pretty convenient!  People usually have no idea how to react.

Pheew... after we die we all go to "Ninjaworld"!

Fear certainly drives the imagination of our species. However, it is most logical to believe that there is nothing after death. Like pressing the power button on a computer; we die and nothing but the few electric pulses in our brain ensue afterwards.

I believe in reincarnation, or something like it. Maybe God decides where he needs your soul, and puts it there. The bad people become insects

Also - nothing anyone thinks about life after death is logical or illogical. No one knows, and we probably won't ever know until we die too.

The judgment day, and after it some people go to heaven and some go to hell.

Bose. Of course logic plays a role in after-death ideas and thoughts. Basically you look at what we do know about life and how things work in nature and among species and within our minds and it is logical to conclude that when the brain is no longer functional and is dead; that is the end. Arguments without any evidence or basis on experience or facts (such as reincarnation and heaven/hell) are illogical; the argument that there is nothing after death is not.

Nevertheless, I do not want to argue or debate. Not going to post in this thread again.

"I dunno"

I have an idea though. If the people going to heaven could just take some pictures of Sens and Fly and bring em back with them when they reincarnate we can all stay endlessly behind our pc's and have a blast

That would be option #7.

Nothing - everything is over

#351155 by unknown[58058] at 2005-08-24 14:45:20 (7 years ago) - [Report]Top

I'd say it's pretty much like it was before we were born, there was nothing. Though there is a small chance mind turns into energy and we go somewhere...wich is possible by all rules of the universe, I hope that's the case.

Holding ANY opinion on this matter is illogical.  Whether you believe in nothing happening, or life after death, neither can EVER be proven.  The best thing to do is to realize that we are all completely ignorant on the subject, and that whatever happens, happens.  Believe what you want, but be cognizant of the fact that your beliefs will NOT change anything.  This subject could be debated to death (pun intended), and nothing would ever come of it. That's all I have to say on this topic.

I agree with Edrick.  An answer will never be proven and ANY answer is solely based on THEORY and OPINION, neither of which have any facts to back them.

MY theory, however, is that it is over.  Done, finished, gone.  Your thoughts, actions, and memory are all stored in your brain, THAT can be proven.  There is NO scientific proof of a "soul."  So I believe, even if there maybe a spirit in you that may leave after you pass, it would have no ties to what did happen in your life.  Whether that soul goes to heaven or hell..or is reincarnated...I would believe you wouldn't be who you are.  All the things that identify you as an individual human being cease to exist when you, the human being, pass.

I don't see how it is illogical to assume that with the destruction or death and end of the brain (without which there is no you or me and our thoughts, actions and memories) there is nothing. It is very logical and based on fact; the fact that our brain is what we use to think, remember, dream etc. Anything to do with a soul, heaven, reincarnation and other opinions are illogical and just thoughts and dreams, which are coincidentally instigated by that which I am speaking of; your brain. Without your brain, any of those other (foolish in my opinion) ideas would not be possible, so it all begins and ends with the brain and therefore there is nothing after the end of it and ergo, us. Now that, is quite logical to me...

How do you know it isn't that simple?

I don't and never claimed to know any fruther than an educated, logical guess/opinion. Your statement kind of sounded like you knew for sure (almost from experience even) it wasn't that simple. Anyway, it's more likely than anything else that it is just the end and it is that simple.

Most people say "if it was only that simple" about things they know are complicated for a fact, but wish they were simple.

If you use any sense of logic about rebirth...

Since there are about 5billion more ppl now than a coupple of hundred/thousand years ago..
If you were too get reborn, is there some kind of queue to get reborn, or does it just "pop" up more "souls" from nowhere to fill the "new" human bodies?

and if "heaven" existed... it would be pretty cluttered up by now since, well, who nows how many billion ppl have died soo faar in history...

Someone wrote something like "our energy will travel on too something else"... well that could be true since no energy ever dissaperas.. but likley youll end up as a rock, pile of wood, dust or just plain air..than a new human body..

i voted "nothing" btw
