Hello. I am a total n00b in overclocking.
I want to overclock my Celeron 2.4 Ghz to 3 Ghz. How can i do that and what programs do i need? Do i need better cooling too? My CPU fan is the stock fan and its pretty good.

Most overlocking is done through the bios (pressing delete at startup).

you then change the frequncy of your CPU speed, raising 5mhz at a time, then run some tests like prime95.
theres alot more to it though, your not only overclocking your cpu - you are overlocking all of your system.
your gonna have to spend alot of time confiquiring your pc.

hi guys! i have an Asus A7N8X-Deluxe Motherboard, and an Athlon XP 2600+ with a Scythe aftermarket cooler on it.

i was wondering if it was possible to overclock it to the speeds of a 3200 or so...right now, at stock, it runs at 2.0Ghz....

the friend who gave this to me, said that it couldnt erally overclock, but i was wondering if it was possible.

my RAM is 1 GB (2x512) PC2700 and one stick is value RAM, the other is PQI....due to this, should i even bother OCing or not?

Nope, you wont get 3200 speeds unless you get God him self to help you out cuz you need a friggen miracle with that RAM and that motherboard.

would i be able to OC it at all?

that was for u dooger

try setting the timings of the ram like 3-3-3-8 if u can see something like this in the bios

or download a modded bios to set CPC to T2 instead of T1  --> yup there are many for 462 platform

then try raising ur frequency from 333 to something higher .. if it didnt respont .. reset bios defaults and just live with ur system

p.s: if u got sata hdds .. consider overclocking again cuz probably their frequencies wont be locked and will mess up ur system files

i have a little problem here... i have a new mobo now and i overclocked just a bit and stuff... but i think i haven't got enough thermal paste between hs and cpu.. and with ut2004 i get freezes after a few minutes :S now with nfsmw i don't get it... i know ut2004 is much more cpu intensive and stuff...
but could the lack of thermal paste be the problem...? thnx in advance
the cpu is 35C now on 1.4V on a zalman 9500Cu
specs in profile

nah .. it is probably ur memory settings/overclocked cpu settings are not stable enough ... try prime95 torture test 2 for 6 hours .. if passed .. then may be it is a software problem .. if not .. let us know .. and post ur overclocking settings

but what i can assure u that it has nothing to do with excess thermal paste, on the contrary .. more thermal paste may cause ur processor to overheat cuz of the created thick insulating layer of thermal compound.

and can a lack be a problem too?
because the cpu is way hotter than it should be

how hot?
if the lack of themal paste is a problem then u should lower ur overclocking settings a bit, but i kinda sure it is not the lack of thermal paste .. unless ur processor is 90nm technology and temps are above 55 for average.

EDITED:
saw ur profile .. set ur CL timings back to 3-4-4-8 and see what happens

well... i left everything as it was... i just came home and the torture test was already running 8 hours without error... cpu was 40C (which is a bit much for this cooler, but it is OK) i don't know what the prob is then

#523439 by demagh (User) at 2006-01-26 14:53:29 (7 years ago) - [Report]Top

did u set ur timings as default?

try looping memtest86 dos mode 25 loops of test 5 .. download it from www.memtest86.com

even if it passed .. that doesn't mean it is 100% stable .. got my memory to ddr520 with no erros at all .. memtest stable .. prime stable .. whenever i run a game with ddr520 ... the game begins stuttring .. takes alot more time to load .. back down to ddr500, everything went ok.

my point:
stability tests passage is not the only thing to rely on.

hi,
i was thinking of buying some new cooling for my cpu (SD 3700+), because i have already seen this cpu overclocks wonderfully, got it running at 2.9gHz now on 1.4v (default) so that is good. temps are fine aswell. but if i want to overclock further, i up the voltages and the temps get in high 40's and when the gpu spreads heat, the cpu gets in 50's which i DON'T like
now i was thinking of getting a water cooling kit... for about 130$ i was first looking at this and the reviews on it are farily good. http://thermaltake.com/2005/watercoolin … 005-01.htm
i don't know if anyone has experience with it and could give me some results of something...
and does anyone know by how much degrees it will beat my zalman 9500 in load?
thanks in advance!

Alright, i have a 3ghz processor..P4     I have an Asus mobo and use AI booster to check on temp and all that.  I am able to overclock using AI booster, I up the performance, but i was just wondering is this all i have to do to complete the OC?    Im just going to OC to a 3.2

#556162 by unknown[23865] at 2006-03-04 11:29:36 (7 years ago) - [Report]Top

@Qwer,

dont use AI overclock, it raises your FSB but LOWERS your memory bus speed thus not creating more performance.

Your better of putting it to manual overclock and raising the FSB yourself and if it becomes unstable try turning up your memory latency timings a bit. Good luck.

Hello ppl. I have order myself a Dell 9400 laptop whit a ATI mobility x1400 256DDR, I havent got it yet, but I just wouder if it`s posible to overclock a garphicscard for laptops? and maybe someone got eny experience on ATI and laptop??

Tnx in advance

gonna try to overclock my p4 3.0ghz to 3.4 / 3.6
is here some one who got his p4 3.0ghz higher ? and did u use prog ore true bios ?

got it on 3.4 now but how about voltage ? must i get it higher ?

1.6 vcore they say is high on air, but 1.55 is acceptable. go for 4ghz what is your vcore now?

overclocking a pentium 4 with stock cooler isn't good, try getting an aftermarket cooler first, then we'll talk.

I would not overclock a laptop, they are fragile enough as it is.
Don't do it!

My 2.4CGHz P4 is overclocked to 3.42GHz on Intel's stock HSF.

the old P4 cpus run on low temps, but the p4 3.00GHz and highers dont.

There were 3GHz and 3.2GHz P4s that ran on low temps as well.

generally not, and intel said that its sourced from motherboards

ok re-phrasing:
if u are having an intel prescott edition 1MB L2 cache or 2MB then another cooler than the stock is highly recommended

i overclocked my processor with it's stock heatsink to 3.78Ghz and was stable, but temps were around 78c and the fan was one noisy ass fan couldn't sleep without returning settings back to non-overclocked settings.

@Ganth
2.4c temps and overclocking potential are not the standards nowadays for LGA775.
