hey guys... i have been overclocking my gfx card for a while now...
and i have now put the speeds of my 6800gt on 435/1250 (350/1000 stock) now my question was if this is a normal overclock for my card, of if it is a bit high, i have never seen a 6800gt card with stock cooling be that fast... the temps are 60 core temp and 70 ambient temp, are those temps fine?
any info would be nice... tia

the temps should be monitored @ full game load, don't know how to do that with nvidia .. may be atitool for nvidia card will make life easier .. give it a shot

good clocks ... but depending on ur temps as said before

memory clocks are 25% higher than stock, u may need some mem heat sinks for the safety factor, alota ppl are doing 1220 with good cooling with no issues, but 1250 with stock is just kinda too much, saw one before doing 1280 but i think he was waiting for his card to POP so that he'll get 7800GTx or so .. something like that

those temps are in game, measured them with rivatuner and after playing had a look at the graph, so...
i might pu mem down to 1220 then, if it is necessary?

AMD Athlon 2400(2000MHZ)@2800(2238MHZ)+CPUidle Extreme||Radeon 9250 PRO  128/128 MB, 260@300, 440@500+cooler(default only radiator)||RAM KinGstoN 512 2.5,7,7,8@2.6.7.7..
Ofcourse Chieftec 400W, old Codegen 300 did not it produce
I tested it in FarCry  1024/768,Medium Detals and not artefacts, no reset...

With overclocking a graphics card, what steps should be taken to ensure best performance and stability? I have a geforce 6800, and even when I use the auto overclock and detection of optimal settings, it is very unstable. What can I do?

the 'optimal' settings... are normally to high... lower them a bit, but you should first unlock the remaining pipelines... there is a topic on how to do that in the tutorials forum

I did, I have the extra pipelines unlocked, but the extra vertex shader is buggy, I get artifacts so I leave it locked.

i never Oced a 6600 normal, but i have my 6600gt oced
first apply the coolbits registry thing

then in advanced settings you will see clock settings option


choose performace 3d in the drop down list. because 2d wont help in games

take ur video card to 500 MHz on the GPU and 1.15 GHz on the memory, i have zalman vf-700 AlCu heatsink thats why i managed to take em all the way there. test the settings, if they dont work, lower in 1 increments.

the main thing that boosts your performace is the memory clock

btw i dont use rivatuner because it drops by performace for some stupid reason

Does 6600 have gddr3 memory? I wudnt risk it if its just normal ddr.

easily possible to 530/600 .....and the max is 570/650 .....
but i advice to keep it on 530/600 if u want ur Card stay long

oh yeahhh! i totally forgot about that, then in that case its not possible to get the 6600 normal to GT speeds, because GDDR1 is waaaaaay slower then GDDR3

the stock of 6600gt is 500 MHz on the core, and 501.188MHz (1002.375MHz) effective on the memory

6600GT and i got it pushed all the way to 600MHz on the core and 1.20 GHz on the memory

temperature is 60 with load, is it the high temps that cut a card's life down? or just the frequencies

my source says that 6600GT's
original 500/450
easily possible & recommended 530/600
max 570/650 @ 83 degrees
both high temp & high freq affect the lifetime of the card
