So, my new computer contains an Intel E7300 ( stock 2.66 gHz 266 x 10 )

I've currently got it running @ 3.33 gHz (333 x 10) with stock cooling, and without any voltage increase.

Is it possible that I could get it to 4.0 gHz ( 400 x 10 ) if I get a Zalman CNPS9700LED or a Cooler Master V8?

My mobo is ASUS P5Q-E, and I've got 4 gigs of DDR2-800 ram

EDIT: Also, I need some new way to check Overclock Stability.

I used SuperPI for my old comp, but it doesn't max out processor usage with my new one.

you could get it to 4ghz yes, how stable i dont know though, if you have a nice chip its definitely possible i suppose

and for stability go intel burn test or prime95

Not my system, not my OC.
But I'm very jealous of it.

Show the CPU tab.

edit;
If my math serves correct, you're running a 375 MHz FSB?
To get 1:1 you just have to run your memory at 375 MHz as well, or overclock your FSB to 400 MHz (Will increase your CPU clock speed).

You're either going to have to overclock your CPU to 8x400 (3.2 GHz).
Or you're going to have to underclock your memory to 375 MHz.

The choice is your's.

ok thanks every time i try to get to 3.2ghz it freeze on me before i can get into windows or sometimes i just get plain black screen i dont know if i get enough to the cpu or maybe its the ram volt which right now i have the cpu at 0.125 and ram at 2.00 nb 1.35 sb havent touch stock at 1.50 by the way 1600 is 400 fsb right?

Yep.

#1067145 by unknown[227874] at 2008-12-29 18:11:53 (4 years ago) - [Report]Top

just try but it wont post now just goes to a black screen after bios

#1067155 by Xi0nicDonor (Power User) at 2008-12-29 18:29:19 (4 years ago) - [Report]Top

Well 8x400 is pretty easy for a C2D to handle, so it's most likely some other setting in your OC.

i hear my motherboard has a fsb hole between 1500 to 1700 but i got it set to 3.4 ghz now so far stable

Now you need the memory to run at 425 mhz for 1:1.

now how do i do the memory im not too fond of it yet still getting use to overclocking.well i got it to 2:1 when i put 425mhz

nice clock would prefer to see a higher FSB though heheh

hey, i've got an amd athlon 64 x2 3800+, and it wont overclock past 2,01ghz (original is 1,8ghz) , any idea what im doing wrong?
i've only changed the CPU frequency so far, but it wont go over 2,01ghz even though it says for example 2,5 in BIOS.

So you put your CPU to 2.5ghz, but when you boot into windows it only displays 2ghz? If that's what you're saying then it's the powersaving option going to work, if you work the cpu you will see it go to the 2.5ghz. You can turn it off in the bios - its called quiet and cool or something like that

what is lower possible voltage for q6600 to run @ 3400 or 3200?!

motherboard Asus P5q pro

it depends on the q6600 chip u have, u have to try it ur self, after reaching the stable 3.4ghz , keep going to bios to lower the voltage a few steps and testing for stabilty

i know that but i am too busy just dont have the time to do that, i was able to run my e6400 @ 3000MHz stable with 1.375 vcore but i assume i should be able to run the q6600 @ 3200 for less than 1.35 right?

how much can i overclock my e6550 2.33 ghz with stock cooler,my ram is ocz reaper 1000 mhz ddr2...how much can i overclock and what voltage to put to be stabile

mselo4ever4: nobody can tell you, some chips are better than others. sadly you're gonna have to find time to find out the lowest possible stable voltage. you shouldnt need to put a lot more than the default through it. but again, who knows - it all depends on your chip

buco565: again, nobody can tell you this, its down to how good a cpu you got and trial and error. just dont put more than 1.5v through your cpu. if you dont have a aftermarket cooler than dont play with the voltage much at all

it is not just matter of time, the electricity is really a big issue here, it is really expensive, i thought that there will be many people who use q6600 + Asus P5q pro who would give a quick answer, anyway i did some tries and here are results

1-  3600 mhz  (400*9) , 1.41 vcore , 3dmark06 score ~14600

2-  3400 mhz  (378*9) , 1.375 vcore 3dmark06 score ~14400

3-  3200 mhz  (356*9) , 1.325 vcore 3dmark06 score ~14200

so as the electricity is an issue, i dont want leave the pc for 7-8hours each night for stability test
but i think i have to do that, im gonna start with 3200@1.325v bcoz neither 3600 nor 3400 really worth

whats the VID this can sometimes be used as i bit of a guideline as too how well the chip may clock and with what voltage, personally though from what i can remember when i was playing aboot with a q6600 it needed more voltage than that to be prime stable at those speeds.
