unstable overclock???

Got a quick question for zeh pros: does O/Cing a graphics card with nTune or RivaTune decrease it's lifespan or make it go slow faster...?

Thanks in advance.

If it is a good overclock or if you have good cooling it won't do anything bad....

What is your card?

My mobo is some kinda MSI if that matters.

EDIT: Also I have a Radeon HD 2900 Pro on my other computer, how well does that clock?

k so I decided to see what i could do with my chip and I was pleased with the results, but the only way I could get it stable was to put some phat voltage through it, (1.481 vcore before drop/droops, 1.456v idle, 1.424v load), +.1v on nb and +.2v on the fsb voltage. this is my first overclock and basically i'd like to know if theres anything i can do to get a bit lower vcore. im pretty sure ive looked through everything and so far this is all i can do to get it prime stable. If there's nothing I can do then I'm still happy considering it's a £75 cpu

if it makes any difference my specs are in profile

Well it's in my profile.. but it's a Gigabyte P35-DS3L

Been looking around some forums that talk about overclocking. Most guides out there are over the top complicated and include sooo damn much worthless information that is not needed. Now days you can even overclock most of your hardware with sliders directly from your desktop. You don't even have to  use BIOS.

The elitists still seem to clinge to the old ways, spreading lies about how unsafe and unstable it is to overclock using program software insted of BIOS. A load of bull if you ask me.

Perhaps I should write a how to overclock for dummies tutorial.

It works for low-level overclocking, if you want the max out of it you still have to resort to BIOS. You also have a very high risk of corrupting data when overclocking in OS, as you have lots of data cached, being written/read etc. Thats why "the elitists still seem to clinch to the old ways, spreading lies"

Howdy All,

I have a Q9550 processor and 790i eVGA mobo. 1600mhz ram. What overclock can i expect to get from this before i have to switch to watercooling? im new to overclocking. Please advise!

Welllll, hmmm. You don't really need watercooling if you have a decent air cooler (xigmatek/true/noctua/etc). To answer your question though, I guess around 75c before switching to watercooling, which would be around 1.4vcore, and i wouldnt really recommend going over that anyway for the sake of the longterm stability of your cpu. I'm not really clued up on how well the quads overclock but I'm assuming that particular one could do like 3.8ghz? Could be better or could be worse, you never really know

If you still have the stock cooler that you got with the cpu I wouldn't recommend changing the vcore at all.

How much did you spend to get that?

here.. q6600 with stock cooler, not overclocked 2.4Ghz x 4, 60C on full load with x264 doing encoding for about 40 hours now.

Why bother getting a $120 CPU and overclock it to reach the same performance a $190 CPU can give without overclocking? You just spend the difference in better coolers, more electricity wasted and stressing the memory.

i got that e2160 for ~$60 (OEM)
and that is the stock cooling :-D :-D  that's the stock fan from my old e2140
actually i can get better result :tease:
the fan doesnt run at 100% untill the temps reach 66c (for some unknown reason), and that temp is 62c

the ram used is kingstone value ram 2x1gb ddr2-667 (cheapest around) , got it about a year ago for ~$30

as u can see from the screen shots, running 1:1 (max ram speed) , a better ram could get better results

i am actually considering getting 2x2 ddr2-800, just as soon as i have some extra money

according to some website, the stock cooler can handle heat of up to 3.2Ghz on the 65nm core2duos

get core temp
see the VID it shows, that the volt to start with
notice the Tj max, try to always keep 20~15c differnce between Tj max, and the max load temp

Is my PC oc-able? I only don't know the power supply (think it's 350W)

You're already overclocking it with 4Mhz ... It should say 2667 and as you can see from the picture, your BIOS makes it run at 2671.

I think you should be fine overclocking it to about 2800Mhz without changing anything except FSB. Beyond that, you may have to lower the memory timings if those Kingston memories are the Value kind.

The processor should go above 3.2 easily but the power supply may not be able to keep up.

could someone kind enough explain why i get two differnt temp first one is from core temp it says core 1 36c and core 2 38c but when i look at real temp my temps is 30c and 33c idle temps here load temps dont go over 57 i over clock to 3.2ghz on a e6750 stock intel cooler

Because RealTemp is showing a 95C tjmax and CoreTemp is showing a 100C tjmax.
The 100C one is correct; use CoreTemp or correct RealTemp's value to 100C.
