1.4v really necessary?
What's your bios vcore?

#957616 by pcgamerDonor (User) at 2008-06-16 05:51:53 (5 years ago) - [Report]Top

Vcore is at 1.45 .. and yeah it fails anything under that voltage 1.4 it halts the system after 10 mins of power usage, 1.30 = computer in continuous restart loop

max load temp = 60 so i think im save

i'm stuck here for now... anything higher gives me ridiculous temps

It means core temp is about as accurate as you'll get.

okay guys i have an EVGA 650i Ultra motherboard and to tell the truth I feel it is making overclocking potential on my E6600 very hard... im getting 31c idle over both cores on stock and 42c on both cores at 3.2GHz and to get anything that high I need 1.45v on vcore.

Could anyone recommend me a board that is around £50-100. I dont feel it necessary to upgrade to an expensive board on this system as I'm looking to do a full upgrade again mid 2009.

feel free to use some of the websites i order at:
www.overclockers.co.uk
www.ebuyer.com
www.komplett.co.uk
www.scan.co.uk

I am just after something that has better overclocking potential and actually have less temperatures. I mean, I have a Scythe Ninja Rev B and expect better than this.

So i got a question... I am an idiot and just remembered i have OCZ SLI ram with a SLI mobo and there are OC settings on that, what do they do? I don't know? Is it better than a manual OC? Does it OC ram + CPU or just one of them? I googled and i didn't find a clear answer....

#966490 by unknown[117125] at 2008-07-06 10:09:18 (5 years ago) - [Report]Top

How do i make my ram, which is 800 mhz into 1066? my timings are now

wierd.. My memory is for sure 800 Mhz.. but it shows as either 266 or 400. i think my timings are off. Are they not set properly?

I think i do have to change the timings to certain numbers. but i dont know what they are.. im guessing its all in math in OC'ing the RAM... but i need the formula to do so.

I dont know a thing in OCing RAM.. lol

#966491 by fx2050Donor (Power User) at 2008-07-06 10:10:35 (5 years ago) - [Report]Top

:google:

or just lower the timings and see the results, i played about for a day or so to get what i believe was most optimal

#966851 by unknown[117125] at 2008-07-07 06:09:21 (5 years ago) - [Report]Top

yeah. setting the timings lower? i dont want to do something i dont know what to do. and the effect of fuking up my pc. to thanks. how bout you xionic? got any ideas?

Well, I've started to attempt to overclock my Phenom 9850BE with this system, using AMD OverDrive -

Antec 900 Case
OCZ StealthXStream 600W PSU
MSI K9A2 Platinum Motherboard
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD4870
4GB Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066MHz
500GB Samusung Spinpoint
Vista Ultimate x64 SP1

So far, the results haven't been very good. I'm only using the stock heatsink at the moment, which I applied using Artic Silver somethingorother thermal paste.

With AMD Cool 'n Quiet Enabled, and no overclocking, CoreTemp showed an average of 29°C at idle.

When I disabled it to start OCing, it showed about 32°C average.

Still at stock voltage - 1.3V - I could raise the multiplier to 13x200 for 2600MHz, or just raise the HT clock to 212 (with the multiplier at 12.5x still) for 2650MHz. Anything over that, and the sytem just hung. Neither of these seemed to change the idle temperature at all though.

I changed the voltage to 1.325 and managed to raise the multiplier to 13.5x200 for 2700MHz, and still no change in temperature. But when I ran the OverDrive Stability test, the temperature got up to 58°C after about 10-15 mins, and then the system hung.

Whenever I've tried to get 2800MHz (at 1.4V) it just hangs after a couple of seconds.

Is there anything I should try changing other than just the CPU voltage?

Thanks

Im on 400FSB @ 3.2ghz with 1.3250v VCore, 2.1v memory (maximum motherboard can output) on 8x multiplier at 1600mhz fsb.

I can do roughly 3 hours of orthos then my system hangs and does a bsod
I can also do ~5 hours of rosetta@home using both cores.

My idle temps are 33c idle, 55c stress tested, any ideas how i can improve on my orthos/rosetta@home stability?

my specs are in my profile under Game PC Specs

Right know you are running your memory in the same speed as the fsb (1:1).
I guess your cpu is running something like 9x376 = 3384 MHz

You could run your memory in a different speed than the fsb.
In my bios I can change this in "DRAM Frequency". If set to AUTO it will be the same as the FSB.

Another thing you could do, is running your FSB allot higher and lower the multiplier.
8x423 = 3384

So guys I need your help with my temps, when I OC my q6600 to 3.6 ghz, when it is stressed using prime95 the core temps go to 75 max- I still haven't seen it go above that, but when converting a movie for my ipod using videora or w/e its called they go to 81,80,77,75... Would that be safe? I have a Antec 900 case and it filters air out pretty quickly... Also I am running it at 1.45 v because it's the lowest voltage it is stable at...

I am currently running at 3.0 GHz and am converting the same movie, it is over 5 minutes difference but runs at 54... Core temps are 67,65,61,60... I really would like 3.6 because it is 5 minutes and I am impatien when it comes to these thingst lol...

intel says on its website, ( if i remember correctly) that volts up to 1.5v are ok
and also the C2D and the C2Q can handle temps up to 100c ,
however it is always better to make it work at lower volt/temps, why dont u just OC it to 3.2ghz, that may enable u to lower the volt to under 1.4v i guess
they say it increase life span to run at lower temps, do some googling, about that,

but IMO as long as u dont pass the 1.5v mark u r ok

Any good guides out there for overclocking Athlon 64 X2s?

Would appreciate some links.

i got a new e2160 processor :-D

as i expected, it allowed me to increase my OCing from my old e2140, i just need to mention that i am limited my ram speed , which is ddr3-667 (333)

this time i am not only limited by my ram speed, also the temps, i am only 10c to tjunction max :-O
i hues the problem is my ambient temp, which is around 30c :-(

gona give it another try when the weather hits a bit better temps

What's your bios vcore setting on that?
I think 75C is well beyond the max temp for these chips... It's listed as "61C" on the spec sheet if I remember right.

As long as you don't get 75c during regular day to day activities.
I've never seen anything over 65C (24 hours prime95) on any of my E2160's and they're all running 9x333 from 1.300v to 1.325v.

i think that was 1.35 or 1.325 ,

at stock (200x9, 1.278v) , idle temp = 40 , load temp = 56-57

i am starting to think that my thermal paste is somehow the problem, or maybe the ambient temps, the way the air flow in the case is:  only 1 fan puching the aire outside from the back, and the input air is going through 2 hot HDs,

what do u think ?

i am getting temps on this this e2160, which is Tjunction=85c , the same like i used to get on my old e2140 which had tjuction=100c, so i was thinking that temps are supposed to be 15c less

Yes, 75 degrees is definitely too high in my book.

I kind of freak out when temps go over 62 degrees on my Q6600.  Right now it's running at 3.4 GHz 100% stable.  I have it in a water cooling loop with an 8800GT, with all of my fans turned down super quiet.  It's great.

I have a ~380 FSB and 1.408 idle vcore, and 1.400 at full load (pencil mod).

I'll post up with a screenshot later.
