Maybe you have an FSB hole.
Try with 8x multiplier.

Thanks.. I will try that.. but could you please explain what you mean by FSB hole?

Yeah some chips/boards have holes in the FSB where they won't boot, even if they should.
I know the E2140 specifically is infamous for having an FSB hole, I forget where though.

Just adjust the multiplier to a different number and try a different FSB (to achieve the same GHz result), assuming your memory can handle it.

For 2.8 GHz you use:
9x311
or
8x350

9x311 is weird though.
Better to run at 8x350 which would be at least DDR2-700 I guess.

Praise be you!

It worked managed to up clock to 2880 with 360 as frequency - made my mems work at 900 mhz Gonna try to increase a bit more aswell thanks!

Do you know what cpu voltage i should be careful to overstep with an e6600?

Ehh, careful with OCing your memory, might not be stable...
You have to run orthos/prime95 for ~12 hours when you're all done.

The vcore depends on your cooling...
I wouldn't pass 1.4v under any circumstances, regardless of water/air etc.

You can use a lower vcore to get better temps.  So when you decide on a ghz and mem speed, adjust your vcore last to make sure you minimize it (and still pass 12 hours of prime95).

Thanks yeah.. running memory on 900 seems to be fine though.. Gonna test it though.. But I wanted to try to lower my timings.. currently they are

5-5-5-15 according to CPU-Z

But I think they were 5-6-6-18 or something according to bios.

anyway, what would be appropriate to lower it to? 4-x-z-y or something i guess?

/edit: gonna stay at 360x9 for the cpu for now. When I see that is stable I will decrease volt until I optimize it..

you can see your different timeings for different speeds in CPU-Z (if you change timings i guess you have to change the voltage to them also)

i have Corsair xms2, i have them in 4-4-4-12 (800mhz) and i had to increase voltage +0,3.
but i dont know what memories you have.

When it comes to overclocking I know heehaw, so I wanted to ask the pros's.

Would I get much of a performance boost out of OC'ing my AMD64 3200 and my GeForce 6800LE? Note Im using stock coolers and have no intentions on spending money on a machine that I am looking to replace ASAP.

Just spent 2 hours trying to force my P5K back to 8x400.
It's locked the bus to 266 mhz, best speed I can get is 9x266.

Can't wait to destroy this thing with a hammer next week, when I get my Maximus Formula.
I'll post pics of it IN PIECES.

if you are really considering destroying it with a hammer, send it to me i need an additional motherboard for now to run @ stock.

EDITED:
oh, and i'll destroy a socket A motherboard and take pics for you, call it even?!

Haha I'd like to destroy it, but I can't because I'm selling it.

Older components (motherboard, cpu, etc) usually aren't that good at overclocking. There's just too many factors: Motherboard lacks overclocking options or capability, CPU doesn't overclock that high, and if the motherboard doesn't have memory dividers and if your memory can't overclock that much.

Usually you can get around 10%, 20% if you're lucky. It's usually almost not worth it overclocking it - unless you know that your components are good for it.

These days, nearly every component has a lot of leeway and is often manufactured with overclocking capabilities in mind. For example, I recently bought 3 systems that each had AMD x2 4000+ and Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H. They all overclocked to around 2.7 - 2.8 ghz from 2.1 ghz on stock cooling: about a 30% overclock. An overclock of 30% is common these days. 60% can be found easily with planning. 100% is also achievable with specific components.

I'm gonna buy a Q6600 in several days and maybe I'll post my results here heh.

I'm thinking about getting a e21xx, I would like to OC it to around 3ghz. Would my temps be too high with the stock cooler or should I invest in a better one?

Stock cooler is fine but it depends which one you get.
My second E2160 came with the short, aluminum cooler.  CoreTemp is reporting 85C Tjunction and 32C.  I think that's wrong and it should be 100C Tjunction and 47C  (Add +15 to Tjunction; Add +15 to Temperature).  And this is at stock.

However you can reach 3 GHz on stock vcore, so it would idle around ~45C per core at 3 GHz.
My first E2160 came with the good copper heatsink and idles 42C at 9x333.

I don't know load temps though.

Ok, so I have got a 1-year-old pc.
Specs: CPU: AMD Sempron 1.8gHz 3000+
            GFX: ATI Radeon X1650 Pro 512 mb @ 400mHz
            GPU: 600mHz
            RAM: 1gb DDR-400 @ 200mHz
            PSU: 300 watts

How much do you think i can ramp this thing up?? Oh, and please tell me how. (i'm noob-ish)

EDIT: I have an 80mm CPU fan, 25mm GFX fan with heatsinks, and I'm getting a new 80mm case fan

I'm considering having a go at overclocking with my computer. So I'll post my specs here to see if anyone else has experience with my sort of system -

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 5600+ @ 2800MHz
nVidia 8600GT @ 600MHz
2GB DDR2 RAM @ 667MHz
250W Power Supply
Windows XP SP2
Just stock cooling

Any advice would be helpful, thanks.

[EDIT] I've searched the entire internet's overclocking guides, and they all basically tell me that I can change the FSB/HTT and the FSB Multiplier. But I've looked through my entire BIOS, and the only thing I can find to do with either of those is the FSB Multiplier (which is x14 at the moment) and the Voltage, but absolutely squat to change the FSB clock speed. Does anyone know where I can find it?

WTF

is that on liquid nitrogen or something ?
am i missing somthing here, i thought that FSB hole means that it cant run past that value, does FSB hole means it cant run at specific values, like it cant OC to 380~400, but works fine 200~375 and 405~500

i succefully was able to boot my e2140 @ FSB 380, but it showed a lot of stabilty issues with anything over 350, and i m sure it is becasue my 667 value ram, but does that mean the only thing i m missing are good 800 ram

was told i should be reaching 14000 on 3d mark on default settings
can anyone pls advise
thank you martin..

yes the average would be 14k and your in the zone (13500) so not sure why even asking

im having to overclock 800 mhz to reach this where ive been told i should do it on stock settings
have i missed somthink.?

Older tech question:

I recently bought an ABIT ICG-7 to go along with a 3.0ghz prescott core CPU I got for free.

Does anyone have experience with overclocks with either of these and an idea of what they'll do? I skipped over the 800mhz FSB CPUs and boards entirely, 533mhz -> C2D but I found a couple reviews with the ICG-7 running stably at a 1000mhz+ FSB with a 2.8 prescott core.

The board isn't here yet so I'm just looking for an idea of what works well or doesn't work at all with either of these to save myself a few hours of trial and error.

Cooling and PSU are not problems, they're both overkill for this box.

Damn my Q6600 will not hit 3.6 GHz.

Trying 9x400, I've gone all the way up to 1.375v and it still fails Prime95 within 10 minutes.  Probably just needs more volts but I can't see 1.4v ++ being necessary...

It's stable at 8x400 with 1.231v though which is amazing.
